A Korean fan going by the name NoconKid has unveiled a truly stunning recreation of Yokosuka in glorious detail, putting Sega to shame for not beating him to it:

Wow. That's all I can say. This makes me so sad that Sega has abandoned the series. Hopefully one day I can at least explore this guy's version of Yokosuka in HD.

Wonderful. The best part is that they kept the Dreamcast style intact. It's not like some of those Unreal Engine 4 or CryEngine rendering of old games, with out of the place shaders and such.

Instead of paying them to build this for a modern system, they'll send out their lovely lawyer letters.

Agreed, it was quite professionally done. Liked it that more than I expected.

Why oh why did they announce or show this off before it was done? Now there is a high chance Sega will send a C&D before we even get our hands on this...

And I really want to get my hands on this...

Why can't I see the video? Oh, right; my eyes are welled with tears.

In all seriousness: holy crap. Dat banner. Dat wind.

Look on the bright side - the moment he's finished and ready to release it, Sega will announce their own official Shenmue HD Collection, and issue a cease and desist order to the guy.

It looks amazing. I love how it doesn't look like an Unreal game. AND THAT THEME... still makes me feel feelings. :(

It looks amazing. Last time se saw something like this SEGA hired the guy behind Sonic CD HD. Let's hope for the same here.

Why the fuck is Sega doing NOTHING worthwhile with the Shenmue IP?

I imagine this has a lot to do with how much of a money drain the original was. The original Shenmune was developed in the weird transitional phase at Sega where they still wanted to fight for Saturn, but were slowly becoming aware of how badly they lost that battle to Sony, and even more aware that Dreamcast was likely to be a curtain call to the hardware market.

So it was created at a time when Sega was like "look we're likely going to lose this battle, but we're gonna do down fighting!", they put their creative force pretty much behind everything Dreamcast got.

I think in this day and age, a Shenmue 3 would be a lot more affordable, but I don't know that much of the Shenmue staff actually remains at Sega at all by this point, nor do we know if they have the info they would need to figure out where the story was supposed to be going. It's pointless making a Shenmue HD or making a Shenmue 3 if there's no intention of ever finishing the story.

Yeah Sega is smart and likely will wait to see if there is a potential money earning for basically using little of their resources. They will probably go to him hired him and/or buy the source off of him and probably sell it to us multi platform. Well hopefully.

Because nobody would buy it nowadays. By that I mean it won't sell enough copies to make a profit and only the die hard fans would buy it.

It's not a good investment especially in SEGA's current state, remember that this is the company that didn't want to make Bayonetta 2.

Man. That looks really good, and managed to retain the original style despite the improvement in quality. Makes me want a Shenmue HD now. D:

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

For every Taxman, theres a Streets of Rage Remake.

Sega's skint these days anyway. No announcements of any more DC ports (JSR did alright I guess, but not 'enough'), supposed small legal issues keeping other games being ported (guess Sega has crap lazy lawyers too) and of course thats before we even get into their total seeming lack of multiple translation teams these days. Can't even get subs out of them, much less dubs.

Maybe one day Sega will sell its properties off or something rather than just squat on them for eternity. Imagine the current weird situation where Sega still owns Bayonetta, but has little to nothing to do with the actual making of Bayonetta 2 while still taking a cut.

SEGA could, at least, release the original version digitally (on PSN/XBL/Steam).

Is it possible for them to release old Dreamcast exclusives on the current platforms? I mean, technically and legally?

Watching the video.

The music on the video.

Seeing those pictures.

Sega will never do anything with Shenmue.

Yu Suzuki looks old and sad.

I wonder whatever happened to this. Was it fake or did they just abandon it?

Long while ago now an insider let us a little look into what happened to the "definitely in motion Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia" HD ports. Shenmue has some licensed tech in it that everyones unsure who even actually owns so that put a downer on that, and in general I guess JSR didn't make enough to keep such HD porting teams on the bankroll.

Basically: there is no money. Enjoy Sonic Boom.

What if Nintendo announce Shenmue III coming exclusively to Wii U, the internet goes CRAYZAY!

How poorly did JSR HD sell?

Dunno, you'd need a full Sega leak what with it all being digital sales. I mean what doesnt help is that for all of its aesthetic beauty, JSR plays like a pretty damn busted ass game at the best of times. Sales would ride on old players mostly and not good word of mouth. Was fun to play on Vita, but then it had some crash issues.

NiGHTS HD probably didn't set the sales world alight either, Afterburner Climax and Daytona too. I think Shenmue and Skies would have done better because they're more meaty games with more of a (crazed) following, but there just aren't that many people making Sega console games anymore fullstop. The company wallet is clearly thin and will most likely stay that way unless Sonic Boom is some unparalleled success story (what theyre banking on).

Love his name. Probably got it from that jdrama lol.

Looks great but it's too bad Sega will kill it.

I agree about the music. It makes me feel like I was just introduced to Asian culture for the very first time. Very calm and relaxing. I hope they do something like this. Even that Coke machine looks good.

Neato. Makes me long for more Shenmue...

Damn it, Sega! If you don't want to spend a lot of money, go the Halo Anniversary route or hire Saber Interactive to do it. Freaking Shenmue II is on OG Xbox, so just go from there like Saber did with Halo CE.
