Probably the best batch of newcomers to hit smash. I can pardon a few clones because there are so many new characters from so many different series with wildly differing playstyles.

Look at brawl. Ignoring lucario, the newest character from that was what, Olimar? From 2002? Newest character from this game is from 2013. It's about time.

Guess I'm the only one whose underwhelmed by the roster. I only have interest in playing. Bowser Jr, and Greninja. Don't care for anyone else.

I got 0 characters I wanted in, and that fucking sucks.

One might argue these leaks do a better job of showing how a character plays than actual reveal videos do.That Robin/Lucina reveal was pretty much a bunch of jump cuts of animations from random camera angles.

I have a source that has just informed me that Nintendo have identified the leaker. He has been fired and is being sued. He does not work at ESRB itself. He was an employee of NoA, who was sending materials to the ESRB. This is a completely internal leak.

The leaker, despite having been fired, still has a copy of the Smash Bros 3DS game in his possession; as well as one of the 3DS systems used for internal ratings. Nintendo has yet to seize these from him. It's a copy of the final build of the game.

If there is more to be unlocked in the game, such as new characters, it is possible we'll see more from him (if he still cares to share it); given that he still has it. I doubt it though.

So many Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus reps is pretty disappointing with no new DK or Metroid reps.

But I'm atleast glad we got a lot of newcomers that rep NES-era franchises.

You're not the only one. I've wanted four characters since Melee, and only one of them has been added (Diddy in Brawl). It's not like I'm asking for Vivian or anything unrealistic.

Personally, I'm just not that excited about the new characters, and it is mostly because of the leaks. Does anyone else remember how pumped people were at Palutena's reveal at E3 2014? Yeah, me neither. It was totally expected at that point, and I think my eyes might have even glazed over the screen while I watched it. I should be really excited at the confirmation of Shulk, as he is my most desired character, but the lack of surprise just kills the hype. It's somewhat like watching a replay of game 7 of the World Series after someone already told you who won.

Okay after reading over everything, I'd appreciate a link to where the DLC claims got disconfirmed. I thought they were iffy after knowing the guy on /v/ just swipped everything from a skype chat and leaked it without permission, but never really got a feel for whether the DLC was something bogus he threw in for shits and giggles or something that was actually said in that original chat.

Still 99% we're getting Mewtwo, 90% sure about Ridley and Dixie and fairly sure about Impa and Mach Rider. No fucking way NeoZeo or the source he's regurgitating information from 'guessed' that elaborate shit about Shulk, Bowser Jr. or Duck Hunt Dog, though I guess they could be wrong about what's unlockable and what's been pushed back as DLC. Absolutely willing to have my face rubbed in this if I'm wrong
like it seems like I was about the Palutena 'leak'

Still expect to see Ice Climbers and Chorus Boys as DLC though. Way too many leaks that obviously knew something mention the latter and the IC are already repped with a polar bear in Smash Run. Could just be while their two-in-one mechanic is doable on the 3DS, it needed more dev-time to properly implement without constraining them too much (like Olimar's pikmin cuts) and Sakurai felt prioritizing other characters was better. Also means since the Wii U version's still in development it gives the team more time to get a proper balance between making them still fun and true to previous versions while making sure they function properly on the 3DS version (Rosalina's luma seems a bit more simplistic AI-wise and got newcomer priority).

Also leave it to Sakurai to make a character I like look fun as all hell, though we're almost definitely getting those Koopalings alts since you can even see a Larry trophy with him in the same exact clown car he's otherwise never been in. Only letdown is the veteran cuts I'm less sure we're getting back as DLC now, Ganondorf still being OLD MAN FALCON and Shulk looking a bit too close to Link and Marth besides his neutral B.

Forgive me, but aren't all lawsuits public information? So wouldn't we be able to find out very soon if such a lawsuit has been filed? Just curious about that aspect.

Not amazing, but better than I expected. I'd have loved to see an additional Sonic character such as Knuckles.

Kinda wish there were more game villains. Baby Bowser is an interesting choice. Not against it, but seems random. And it's yet another Mario character. Could have easily gone with someone from Star Fox, Metroid, etc. No Wolf?

Oh, and more non-exclusive Nintendo characters. I like how they added Megaman and Pacman, but should have added Bayonetta or Sam Fisher. Fisher vs Snake? Siccck.

Lets hope Nintendo actually implements DLC too.

The newcomer roster is just missing a Rhythm Heaven character for me, but otherwise it's perfect.

I'm seriously loving everything that I'm seeing of Jr.

I think I've spoken out enough times about the roster up until the point but I actually really like the roster for what's offered to everyone. There's really amazing old school fan service between Little Mac, Duck Hunt Dog, Megaman and Pac-Man & the new school is well represented with Rosalina, Bowser Jr (old as Sunshine I know, but the Koopaling resurgence is a fairly recent thing too), Greninja, Shulk, Palutena (who while not new, is most enjoyed for her role in a newer title) and Dark Pit. There are an amazing number of new female faces (one of the bigger desires from the past) and with the introduction of Villager one of Nintendo's bigger franchises gets a face to go with the content in the game.

From a pure "who has a play style I like" angle, as of right now, only Rosalina, Palutena, Greninja, Megaman (to an extent), & Robin (to an extent) grab my immediate attention. The roster is stacked though and I didn't lose any mains in the transition (though Lucas being gone really stings). At this point, there's literally only one character (and thus character fighting archetype) I'd like to see represented in the franchise somehow (eastern swordsman/draw and sheathe swordplay) but as the roster is now, I can't fault it for anything more than the omission of the Ice Climbers.

Being a junior (not judging since I'm a junior too), you're gonna need some proof to back up this claim. Also, any reason why the leaker was using a Brazillian monitor? Seems a bit odd for an NOA employee.

Lol I don't even count Mii's as a character let alone 3. Biggest waste of resources imo, makes it even worse that you can't even use them online, why even bother making them? Also I don't count clones, cause well, they're clones. Especially Dark Pit who was an alt color in Brawl, now he takes his own slot. ._. so to me we got 12 new comers. The 12 aren't that bad I guess. I didn't like WFT at first but it was pretty smart to just reveal that one and get it over with cause I've just got over her already compared to if say she was announced now. I've wanted Bowser Jr in smash ever since Sunshine and while its not how I imagined him, at least he's still in

Still waiting to see my 2nd main tho, Mewtwo! Pls, someone leak a vid of mewtwo gameplay in the 3ds version, my faith is being challenged here with all the "why would nintendo hide characters from the ESRB?" stahp it. :( I can't accept Mario getting 2 new reps(with 1 being mario in a doctor's outfit) and Pokemon losing 1.

What I don't understand.. If Ice Climbers are cut because of "limitations" then why do we have Duck Hunt (dog & duck), Rosalina & Luma, Pikmin & Olimar? I know they aren't the same, but still, they come pretty close. Especially if Chorus Men are in the game, I mean they have Smash Run enemies just as the Ice Climbers have the polar bear.

I can't see them gone from the game at all.

I'm surprised that people haven't complain that the Mario series has 6 reps (and even then some people like to think that DK, Yoshi and Wario are part of it too)

I'm ok with the roster,except for doctor mario (with the cusom moves we don't really need clones with slightly different movesets) and dark pit if it's a straight up clone of pit..

annd of course for the lack of ice climbers,that were my main...now i only have mario and ganodorf..

that being said,i'm extremely pleased that we get characters that are radically different from the ones we already have

Why are people assuming that the DLC part of the leak isn't true? Everything else has been. There's obviously room for 6 more characters on that select screen, and what with the Wii U version coming later this year, it seems clear to me that they ran out of time and need to add those 6 chars via free DLC on the 3DS version.

Because it makes absolute sense to leak more information when you're in the process of being fired and facing litigation.

  • I was pining for Palutena, Shulk, Rosalina and Lucina and I got each and every one of them.
  • I didn't realize I wanted Robin, but now i'm absolute thrilled that (s)he's in.
  • Dark Pit's alright, even if he is a clone. If he wields that Dark Pit staff, then it's even better.
Overall? This roster is my muse. My Femme fatale. My perfect roster.

9/10. 10/10 if somehow Ridley still manages to get in (the more villains, the better).

I'm not too fond of clones like Lucina or Dark Pit, but I'm really happy with Shulk, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Palutena and Little Mac. Bowser Jr seems also like a cool addition, especially if is true that we can choose all the other Koopalings from the same slot. We still haven't seen Duck Hunt Dog, but maybe it's kinda similar to Olimar and could be fun (if is not just another clone).

Ice Climbers is, in all honestly, a pretty terrible game. Well, average at best.

But the Ice Climbers in Smash are interesting and fun to play as and there's a Polar Bear from the series in Smash Run so they better at least show up as ATs. Although that would be heartbreaking (If you're imagining a 200 pound grown man shedding a tear each time the AT spawns, you're in the ball park).

I'll be honest though, I like the rest of the new comers. I think they do a good job of representing Nintendo franchises; modern and retro. They all seem to have interesting playstyles, at least so far (Dark Pit, Mario PhD - I'm watching you). Aside from a couple of outside desires (Dixie, Takamaru, Wonder Red, Medusa/Hades, Monita, Captain Rainbow, and Baby Mario/Stork) that I never really put much effort into wanting I am completely happy with the overall inclusions.

And if Alph is really an alt costumer for Olimar like the Ninka leak says, then I'll be even happier.

Much better than Brawls 2 which only consisted of Ike and Snake for me.
Though to be fair Snake counts more than every single newcomer we got in Smash4 for me.

I believe the original poster for the DLC leak said they made it up but I could be mistaken on that.
