FaceRig is a program enabling anyone with a webcam to instantly embody any character they want. The output can be streamed to Skype, Twitch or any service that uses a webcam. It can also be instantly recorded as a movie. For now we're focusing on the portrait and the audio, but we aim to do more in the future.

It is currently in development, but we're already having lots of fun with it. We, the developers, would love to have the chance to finalize it and keep it indie to make it available at a low price for everyone to enjoy; that's why we're on Indiegogo. We hope you'll join in and help us create something fresh and fun.

What a waste of what looks like some great markerless facail motion capture tech. Sell that shit to indie developers to use in their games!

This could be very cool future MMO games if it becomes wide spread. Also a new interesting way for anonymous interaction the internets is famous for.

Surely this would require a very high quality camera in a specifically lit room.
It's all fine and dandy to make the claims but from a technical standpoint, I'd expect something like the Xbox One Camera to maybe be able to do this, dunno about a regular webcam.

LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
I've seen several projects similar to this over the past several years using equipment ranging from cameras to Kinect sensors. Not surprised someone's taking this route.

The facial expressions looked great but the lip syncing did not. If they can iron that out, I'll be impressed.

Accurate lip sync in the model translation is the hardest part. Here's another approach to the subject from a former colleague of mine when he was at ILM:

Checked a random kickstarter email update for this and to my surprise they revealed they were hacked.

Kind of shitty not to give a more urgent subject line. I wouldn't have known had I not had interest.

Hello Everyone

Unfortunately we have some bad news. We have been informed that the FaceRig.com site (and implicitly the community) have just been the victims of a successful hacking attempt.

The hackers have acquired the list of backer e-mail addresses and their associated perk & rewards by hacking the facerig.com website back-end. This list has been briefly posted as a link on the website itself but it has been promptly taken down by our web-site contractors, TeamWEB, who are taking full responsibility for this breach and are attempting to track down the means in which this has been performed.

The hackers may have also gotten the facerig.com forum passwords (and they may be able to decrypt them) . No other sensitive information has been exposed (such as any form of payment data).

If you are using the passwords from the facerig.com forum on any other accounts please consider changing it at this time.

TeamWEB , our website development contractors are taking full responsibility for the leaked data and they are investigating the issue in detail. In the mean time they have temporarily closed the creation of new accounts on the facerig.com website to aid in the investigation (no new users can be made in the following hours).

If the investigation will take longer than a day or two, we may temporarily replace the facerig.com website with a simpler version, and a simple phpbb forum.
We are truly sorry about this and in the meantime we are ready to address any concerns you may have at info@facerig.com
We can assure that we are doing everything in our power to fix this and taking all precautions so that it does not happen again.

Steam beta keys have been sent out to Indiegogo backers. It'll go into public beta starting tomorrow, at which it'll cost $15. It costs $10 if you preorder. Here is the Steam page.

I messed with the program for a while yesterday and it works pretty well. They decided to include all the virtual avatars they currently have (excluding licensed ones, which can be downloaded later). The thing that surprised me the most is the amount of customization you have over avatars and backgrounds. You can also create your own in a separate modeling program and import them. I also used it on Omegle for a little bit. That was... interesting. I saw one guy on Twitch using the program already.

It's not perfect and they have some kinks to work out. They said they are focused on fixing bugs for the next couple of weeks.

That was pretty entertaining. I was hoping to see more omegle interaction with the other face rigs

It's from a show called Black Mirror. It's like a new Twilight Zone, each episode is a seperate possible messed-up future. This is from "The Waldo Moment", put very simply, the plot has tech similar to this get out of hand.

I seriously need to watch that. I keep getting told to and I keep saying "ok" but then when I want to watch something I just end up watching something else instead.

It definitely never fails to be thought provoking. Every episode is worth a watch, though I certainly favor some more than others. The episode you've most likely been recommended "15 Million Merits" is certainly the best, very engaging and tense, and the second best would be the one I just mentioned "The Waldo Moment". They are all pretty well done, but those two are the best.

I've had this sitting on my wishlist for ages, should finally pick it up. Maybe there's a nice deal in the winter sale. Anyone in here happened to use a custom, self-made 3D model? Curious how easy it would be to set up.
