There will be exclusive software and non-exclusive software that will take advantage of the new CPU and have improved graphics and controls for the New 3DS system.

Exclusive titles are being planned to be announced. Old games will not be getting a graphical boost.

Almost exactly like Game Boy Color now. Old 3DS title development will probably be phased out in 2016.

Still thinking if this has any impact on Nintendo's integrated architecture stuff.

A more accurate translation would be "neener-neener-neener."

Anyway, I think this sort of gradual fade-in/fade-out is how the portable market is going to work now. You can blame phones for that.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
This is the DSi of the 3DS line confirmed. But, this time, maybe with bigger "relevant" exclusives: we have Xenoblade as a start, so I'm wondering what other titles will be released.

I hope there are not too many New 3DS only titles, in order to avoid to separate 3DS and New 3DS audiences way too much.

Is the CPU improvement available to both, New 3DS and New 3DS LL? After the covers are only for the New 3DS I fear that more "features" will be exclusive to either...

So much for Nintendo releasing a new handheld anytime soon.

At this point, I expect we'll see the 3DS' successor around 2018...

Fuck that, gimme Super Mario Sunshine 2 exclusive to New 3DS!

I wonder how much software.

But, I mean, when you buy a console, you expect compatibility throughout the platform's life, no? I can't think of a good example where that changed and the consumer base enjoyed the experience. This isn't a smartphone, and smartphones don't go off and self-destruct when a new model is released the next year, either, so that comparison doesn't fly. And I can't wait to hear parents and children at Nintendo World go "what do you mean it doesn't work on my 3DS?"

After the debacle that was Wii and Wii U, Nintendo are going to confuse consumers all over again with different 3DS games that work with different versions of the console.

2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL... poor mum's all over the world are going to have no idea what to buy their kids.

I'd buy three New 3DS's and give Miyamoto and Iwata handjobs AT THE SAME TIME if they can pull out their magic pixie dust and make the new handheld give me a proper sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics....

Something I've been dreaming of for ages....

I think this might end up somewhere between the GBC and the DSi. A lot of 3DS games can use the additional processor power and new buttons, but I have a feeling we're going to see plenty of games (particularly those aimed at kids like Pokemon) keep going for the dual-system approach. Extra features and controls on a New, but still works on the standard.

I hope this means we will see a second wind of first party 3ds games for the next two years. Things look pretty barren for the 3ds after Smash.

I think you mean "all 3DS development will be phased out by 2016".

We know the next Nintendo platform is going to be a unified arch between portable and home console. New 3DS is just a stop gap.

It's going to be interesting to see how the games will be differentiated at retail. The eShop will be simple since they could recognise that you're using an old one and not allow the sale of the software.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's renamed to something else outside of Japan. Maybe the Super 3DS or something.

Old 3DS has install base of 60 million it will never be phased out.

This is the bridge to their next platform in 2016 to keep the 3DS sales relevant in between imo.

If this was anything like a phone upgrade, the new hardware would be blowing the Vita out of the water. This is a crappy half-step towards a mild upgrade.

Took Pokemon three years from the release of the GBC to phase out original GB support.

Xenoblade is Nintendo going half-in. It's a port of a game that only ever sold okay. It's more than they did for DSi but unless it sells like hotcakes they aren't migrating Zelda or Pokemon to New 3DS anytime soon. That's 40 million units they don't want to leave behind.

Yep. There won't be a significant amount of New 3DS exclusives, that's really unlikely as most publishers - and nintendo included - won't want to pass on the tens of millions 3DS that have been sold already.

At this point, I'm wondering how much is the CPU boost. Hopefully, by this October, we'll get more infos from those who buy it and open it :p

Oh man I'm so hyped.

New Software is always good. Split user base, yadda yadda, etc etc.

meh

I'm buying the new hardware, so bring on the games!

If they're going to split the userbase, why did they half ass the new models? Should have upgraded the screen resolution and GPU.

Yeah, that's what bugs me.

Hell, even if it were a Vita-level upgrade that would be ok. But this is pretty sad.

I microwave steaks.
I'm already expending brand confusion when little timmy's mother complains that timmy can't play xenoblade on his (old) 3ds.

Guess I'll wait until I see exclusive software I want to get this. I'll get Xenoblade on Wii if I want to play it, dat screen...

Cool they put ZL/ZRs on it. Kind of assuming this will be a Monster Hunter machine only at this point, prove me wrong.
