Ys for Vita/PS4 Announced

Really? Because that piece of concept art was used exclusively in relation to Falcom talking about PS4 months ago. I think it's a cheaply made game in Phyre Engine. That's fine.
Memories was made exclusively for Vita. I doubt they scrapped that whole engine to do a new engine for a machine that's selling worse than its predecessor in Japan.

I'm confident in saying that the Vita was the main platform for this game, with an up-port to PS4 planned sometime during the development process.

Should run at 16k internal rez on PS4..
Just because it's not a highly demanding game doesn't mean the GPU can actually handle resolutions that high. Not that I fully know the technical details, but it does sound like at some point you reach a point where it plummets or it's physically incapable of doing that, Ys Origin DID croak on me FPS-wise on a 560 Ti and that's way less demanding than this.

But I'd imagine they could get some downsampling out of it anyway, though if they can only choose that or 60 fps I'd take 60.

Need to give this series a shot. Any particular one I should start with - the most recent one on Vita? It's an action adventure kind of like Zelda: ALttP, isn't it?

Speaking of which, Sony really needs to make a new Alundra. It would be such a good fit for the Vita.

The screenshots look pretty bad. About the same as Celceta with that weird glow and the blurriness.

Yeah, they aren't doing the game any favors with the blur. Still, Celceta looked well enough on the Vita screen, so I'm not too worried. I just hope the framerate will be good.

And, yes, I love that jumping is back in. Can't wait for more details on this game.

It's much more focused on (really fast) combat than Zelda.

Sticking with the party mechanic huh? Well I guess that's fine if they tighten it up a bit more from MoC.
I do kind of miss the feeling of Adol being solo and taking down beings of godlike proportions.

Still though, so very hyped for this game.

In terms of remake or new game, did Kefin have that many lush forests?

I played the Vita game, then moved on to Oath in PC, and I'll eventually go to Ys Origin

It was a figure of speech :p
I'm just always amused by Vita/PS4 titles cause the gap is so wide it makes no sense in term of dev.. But i think it is the right duo strategy in Japan for Sony now (not PS3/PS4, Vita has a future)

its pretty much zelda with less puzzles faster combat and some of the best soundtracks on videogames

The screens I've seen of V had deciduous and coniferous trees, not the more sub-tropical types I'm seeing.

Playing as Adol alone might not happen again; it seems as though Falcom's focused on "the party" to enhance their catalog's social outlook (group power vs. individual power).

Never played a Y's game before, but that looks like it will change now with this game :)

So is this like a normal JRPG with Kingdom Hearts style combat? How is the combat and the story/characters of the other games in the series?

Interested for sure, but no actual name yet? Or is this some "reboot" situation where it's just called "Ys"?

There's room for improvement in Celceta, if the game's design is a bit tighter and performance a bit better it could be an amazing game. I'm definitely looking out for this.

FF hasn't been turn-based for a while now.

FF13 was still turn based or used a turn base-like system.

I've never played a Ys game before, but I'd be way more interested in this if it had an art style similar to this concept art. As is all those screenshots look like any generic rpg.

Ys games are about the gameplay and godly soundtrack, excuse the graphics for a kickass gaming experience.

Well, I'm getting this for my Vita when it comes to the west. I thought Vita will be a wasteland in 2015 but I was proven wrong.

Love Ys especially the music. <3

Celceta is releasing in China on PC IIRC.

Do sony even own the Alundra IP?

A good start for Ys is usually 'Oath in Felghana' available for play on PS Vita/PSP or through Steam.

Def. start with that and then come and tell us of the revelation of discovering the greatness that is Ys.

Ys

It's an action RPG game with slick boss fights and epic music. Combat involves using abilities and magic spells to defeat enemies along with mashing the attack button while yelling like Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken.

It was a real-time system though because it was running in real-time, but we digress.

Eh cool, TBH I haven't put much time into LR yet so my memory of it's a little hazy.

Well, PS3/Vita makes more sense from a power perspective and if Sony gets anal retentive, but HOPEFULLY they're more or less past that now and won't be an issue for PS4/Vita games. Especially as they must be more sympathetic now versus the PS3/PSP days where it seemed to be considered a cardinal sin to waste that power on a straight port without making it part of a bundle or something.

... Hmmm, gotta see what Xseed does for bringing this out here actually. But I'm hoping Tearaway and Type-0 means they're more lenient now, especially because as things currently stand we really can't have them being arbitrary dicks about what can/can't be put out.

Gotta agree with everyone above

Falcom has taught me a full sound team is preferred to a single composer

A single composer could still make whole musics of the game sounds great. They just need proper direction of what the music they needed to compose. Although, a composer with a full team should ramp things up to eleven ;)

btw guys is the current vita version a good choice to start out on this series?

Best order to play the games on Vita:
Ys 3 (Oath)
Ys Seven
Ys Celceta (Celceta is Ys 4 remake)
Ys 1+2 (Optional as their combat system is rather archiac)

Ys games can be enjoyed stand alone without needing to worry about the story.

Where is Tom at? We need him to be like. "Yes shut up you get it, Senran and Luminous Arc.".

With those, Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters, Neptunia 2, and the obvious Danganronpa Vita2015 will be ok.

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
My decision to eventually get a PS4 is becoming all the more evident. I really liked Oath in Felghana, and I gotta play Origins some time.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's with the party system exactly? How does it work? I hope it's more like, say, the pawns in Dragon's Dogma (I can equip/customize them, but generally let them do their things) than, say, Tales of games. o_O
Yikes, that compression. :|

Edit:
Haha that never gets old. And it's 100% true.
