Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

I find it slightly offensive that one would compare a system like this to a DS Lite in any way.

Shit hinge, horrible D-Pad that can't do diagonals, outer clear housing that isn't properly sealed letting dust in...

I could go on and on.

Seriously, the DsLite was so shite. Most of its problems were solved with the DSi thankfully.

question for current 3ds owners

do new 3ds' come with a cover for the game slot? i'm going all digital and i'd hate to have dust and stuff get in the system via the slot

You can get one for 99 cents a GameStop.

It's called America's Test Kitchen, and its 99 cents NEW; tons of stores still have it.

The smaller N3DS

I will trade my LL to a normal N3DS, the new bigger screen seems big enough.

WOW! Beautiful.

I already own a 3ds and a 3dsxl, but I will get this... For Xenoblade and sex appeal!

Guys, hear me out...

Do you think it is possible that the faceplates have an NFC identifier on the bottom plate that authenticates and freely unlocks a premium menu theme when that particular case is on?

Hopefully every future 3DS game will be N3DS ehanced! With more FPS, prettier graphics and the second stick! And I also hope there are more remakes and exclusive games build from ground up on the N3DS

I think I read that it was supposed to be the case but don't remember where...

I believe during the live stream Iwata said that the first games to take advantage of the new system would be Smash, Monster Hunter 4G and Final Fantasy Explorers. He might have mentioned Bravely Second, but can't remember.

My wife can read it, she skimmed Famitsu article - they think the 3D viewing angle is incredible and it's also much clearer for a second person looking over the shoulder, even though Nintendo hasn't said so explicitly. They say the new stick & trigger buttons are well placed and work good but comfort will depend on hand size. When comparing the two, they say it's hard to pick which is better, cause the LL is easier to hold and has bigger screens, but the regular is still bigger than the old regular 3DS, and much lighter. You could pretty much just infer most of that without an article :D

Le sigh...thats what I feared.

I have to get both :(

Wow the smaller n3DS does have a bigger screen than the OG 3DS doesn't in? Anyone know how much bigger? I just may have to get the smaller one for sure now!

You know what would be cool? Faceplates without a logo but with different materials like smartphones... a wooden cover or brushed aluminium would be cool
I don't know if it's real wood, but they already showed a wooden faceplate with matching theme.

No didn't work its 3DS and 3DS LL in Japan, Murica ain't the center of the world.

New tranlated info should be up in the first post also.
What? America? I don't understand this comment. I can't like Huelen's naming idea?

White JP N3ds for me, it seems. Was thinking about getting one for imports and the more I look at these the more I like. The colored buttons are adorable.

I'm the rare weirdo that didn't really like the first releases of the DSLite. The clear topcoat or whatever it was looked really cheesy to me. After they did some different color iterations, they got rid of that clear layer, and everything really gelled. The DSi also looked really, really nice with its matte finish.

I don't understand why the 3DS looked so cheap and ugly compared to the very premium looking and feeling DSLite-i-XL line. Even the current XL still feels a little hollow, a little creaky in comparison.

You can't really tell in pictures, but I'm really hoping they've reversed trend back to the earlier industrial design choices.

Man, I wish they would put a vague release date on this for 2015, at least which season they're aiming for. Still rocking an OG 3DS here, but my girlfriend wants a 2DS at christmas time. If we're talking after summer 2015, I don't mind getting her the 2DS as a stop gap, if it's Spring, ugh. Puts me in a horrible position. I'll want it, and she'll say it's gratuitous as we'll have two by that point and have literally just got a new one haha. And if I skip buying the 2DS it screws my christmas plans for her right up (pink 2DS + fantasy life, disney magical world & pokemon).

It really does looking awesome though, I really want it. Got dat ninty buzz.

Undecided between getting an American one and taking advantage of the cheaper prices, or buying a European one and playing my current games with proper/better 3D effect.

I'm not convinced by the little size improvement on the n3DS.
It's a shame because they had the possibility to do the perfect mix, but choose to stay with normal/XL.
Perfect ratio may have been 1.5~1.7x the OG 3DS, not 1.2 (n3DS) and 1.9 (n3DSXL, 3DSXL).

It's a shame for the SuFami color pattern too. I will try to wait longer (well when the PAL versions will be announced, which I think may not be for this year) for special edition or other colors too.

Damn, the smaller N3DS looks niiiiiice. But with my giant hands and having played on a 3DSXL for the last couple years, I dunno if I can go back to the smaller model. This will be a hard choice.

I don't understand. If she "wants" a 2DS, then why does the release of the new 3DS matter? Just get her what she wants instead of what you want her to want!

I think that besides being a stopgap to the 3DS line, the New 3DS will be a test to the NintendOS thing, everything is in place: the same architecture, additional horsepower and control inputs, enhanced and exclusive games, they are probably using it to prepare thirds parties and their own studios to this kind development, find problems and difficulties and (hopefully) input from the thirds to help perfect this system.

Relative comparison of the top screen sizes of the original 3DS vs new 3DS vs 3DS XL:

Thanks for posting this.

I'm leaning towards the non-XL n3DS.

The OG 3DS screen is too small for my tastes. I like the XL's bigger screen, and the size of it makes it more ergonomic for my grip, but the size also diminishes its portability somewhat.

The non-XL n3DS looks to be a good balance of physical size, screen size, and pixel density. That said, I'm not going to pull the trigger on a purchase until I demo both models. I'm assuming they will be at NYCC and the Nintendo World store eventually so I might even be able to make a decision before they launch in the US.

damn it want to upgrade to a n3DS XL (in the future, currently an XL owner) but the snes colored buttons and the exchange cases of n3DS make it hard to decide

Looking at the pics, it's clear you use the stylus to open up the back of the console, and reach the battery/SD Card. So no screws (well, they're still there, but you don't need to touch them to open up the back).

Damn...

...

I want a N3DS XL even more now, the wait is gonna be horrible : /

Good thing there's loads of games to play in the mean time!
