Azure Striker Gunvolt |OT| thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening

This is interesting. There's some censorship of death in US Gunvolt? Defeating the Sumeragi folks at least first time, their swords don't completely break. Maybe that changes later, but I'm absolutely positive in JP they completely break regardless. Although, it might make more sense this way considering the gauntlet.

what you're speaking of doesn't happen in the JP version, I just took a look. The same animations happen - the sword forms and then teleports away. But yes, when the gauntlet fights occur the swords break apart

If it were in the JP version, it'd be strange but Gunvolt doesn't censor the concept of death in the NA localization. I don't think you can read the lack of the sword crumbling as censorship of the concept of death, because for all players know of what you just did is effectively kill an Adept anyway. The little story details provided in game don't suggest that there's a material difference between the sword breaking or not the first time you fight them; there's no additional context to make a player think something is amiss. I think the sword breaking just conveys a sense of finality to the player. Besides that, the fact that the swords continue to exist, there's a...possible explanation for why that's useful later in the story.

Characters deaths are given direct reference in the script, especially in the true ending

I'm levelling up. Can't beat the final form of the final boss. It'll take abit of strategy :(. Other than that loving this game. Hope there's a sequel

Over the past 2 days, I got the real ending and beat the extra 4 levels. Honestly I would have gladly paid $40 for a fully-fledged version of this game. It's got this great potential and good OST and artwork but it fell short of my expectations. I was expecting it to a be as challenging as a MMZ zero game (actually the extra levels came pretty close) but even the true final boss was a cake walk
with that infinite EP granted by the power of J-Pop
. I am definitely looking forward for a sequel though, I hope Inti can make it as good as MMZ2 was in comparison with MMZ1.

I'm kind of rookie when it comes to Inti Creates games (I've played most of MMZ1 and MM9); is this a good place to start, or would I be better off playing through their GBA and DS games first?

For people that have finished the game and want more! , I highly encourage that you try to S+ rank the levels, it is VERY challenging, as someone from gamefaqs said "Try going for S+ ranks then. Gunvolt goes from being a Megaman game to a sadistic Sonic Contra hybrid on a speed run."

Pure sadistic fun!

It's not so similar as a gameplay experience to the Zero/ZX games or MM9/10 IMO beyond just action platforming. There are quite a few design and mechanics decision that make Gunvolt fairly unique compared to other MM series.

That being Gunvolt is also very accessible so feel free to dive right in.

Thanks for the response. Your comment is inline with what I have read about it.

I actually downloaded it a few days ago and I'm planning to play through it once I (finally) finish with DKCR3D.

Bought the game two days ago, played it yesterday. The game is kinda fun, not all that hard. I'm enjoying the story for what it is so far.

I decided to finally play this as I bought it day 1 but ignored it for a while.

Holy Shit I loved it, it's obviously low budget, the localization could have used some more work, and the game spammed the same enemies all day but still it was fucking fantastic.

I really hope we eventually get more of this series and that it wasn't just a one game deal.

So the game handles well? Not a big Megaman head but I'm looking forward to Might Number 9. Was thinking of getting this game before hand. The 2 for 1 deal with Mighty Gunvolt is really tempting as well.

I didn't really like Mighty Gunvolt, it was like 20 minutes long and it was pretty meh imo.

But Azure Striker Gunvolt was great, if I had to complain about the game I'd just mention how there's not much enemy variety and it's not 60fps, but I still loved it. If you ever enjoyed Mega Man Zero or even the X series then this is for you.

This reminds me that I gotta finish it. Got frustrated with the final boss that I began playing some Contra 4 to change my game genres. Once I finish Contra 4, I'll jump back to Azure and beat the final boss's 2nd form.

I don't think you've truly beaten this game unless you've gotten the "true ending." The final stage and final boss fight (in the true ending only) add a real climax to it all. Enjoyed this game immensely.

If you're having trouble with the final boss (in the regular ending), make sure you're taking full advantage of prevasion. Using gear that increases flashfield power also really helps.

Once you figure out the patterns, the regular final boss is very easy. I beat it without using prevasion and completed the challenge.

Decided to look for this thread, since the sales thread reminded me of this and I now have a 2DS to play it. Getting it tomorrow, but....out of nowhere...

=/ Damn my Aussie 3DS
Quote to see NA code.
I just redeemed that code and it worked, so...thanks!! Now will have both Gunvolt games! :)

Hooked on the demo right now. The challenges made me play the first stage multiple times before moving onto the two proper stages available in the demo.

Nobody's talking about this game. I thought it was pretty good. Could not beat the final boss though. I enjoy Mighty Gunvolt a lot as well.

Gather more upgrades before facing him.

Funny how people complain so much about MN9 and potentially Bloodstained, when this has been their latest effort which I found pretty ok for a new IP.

Got this the other day on a whim...the gameplay is unique, but very stop and go...I'm wondering are there any videos out there of advanced play. I feel like this game lends itself to some cool playstyles but I haven't figured it out yet.

Or maybe I'm just expecting more from the game than what's really there.

Yes, there are some playthroughs by one of the staff at Inti Creates. Here is a link to the videos:

He plays the game really well. He never gets hit and gets high ranks on the levels. There is no video of the final boss though.

I decided to pick this up on Steam after watching the AGDQ race (meaning I missed out on not one, but two 50% off deals, lol...) Anywho, I am having a lot of fun with it. I actually enjoy the way the combat tag system works, and am really interested in how the sequel will be.

I watched this game on AGDQ as well. It's a great game! I finally beat the normal final boss. I just had to get lucky with it. Looking forward to the sequel or whatever they make next. Inti creates is streaming something tomorrow night at 6pm Pacific time.

Gunvolt 2?!?
READY

I didn't play the game for a few months after getting stuck on the final boss. But I eventually tried again and beat it. Just the past few days I did everything to get the "true ending." The true final boss was pretty fun to fight. I liked the game overall, even I'm still not good at not getting hit to get a high score.

So turns out a week ago "Easy Mode" and "Hard Mode" were released for the Steam version.

Yeah, I saw someone going for high scores playing hard mode today on Twitch.tv - the Steam version also has more dialogue during the levels, which is actually kind of distracting from the gameplay.

I've beaten 3 out of 4 of the Special Stages on 3DS. The last stage has a tough boss, but I think there is a random chance of which boss you get at the end.

Very lttp, or I should say getting to the game. I've had it for quite a while, since just after it initially released on 3DS, but put it on the backburner. Feels like a really good game so far. There are some really good mechanics going on in the background. The kudos system really adds a lot in terms of strategy, especially since I'm finding it so difficult to not get hit. And the story is surprisingly sweet. Reminds me a lot of the ZX games on DS.
