I ended up going to Gamestop and cancelling my Destiny PS4 bundle and exchanging my copy of Wolfenstein I had gotten for the PS4 and I walked out with all of this (and I had enough money from the pre-order to pay off Forza Horizon 2)

What made you change your mind? Will you be using your free game promo for Destiny?

I just decided to use the free game promo for Diablo 3 (wasn't really all that interested in Destiny) and the exclusives for the Xbox One made me change my mind and I like the holiday lineup for the console as well

I'm sure I'll get a PS4 sometime down the road, but for now, this is the console that I want

Wolfenstein is a fantastic game. Good buy. Horizon 2 should be pretty amazing as well.

I'd recommend picking up Forza 5 if you find it for quite cheap, also also a great game. Although I suppose Horizon is coming very soon.

Wow that's a pretty damn good explanation for it. If it is a software update then it seems like it would be pretty easy for MS to diagnose and fix.
Maybe, but I'm not sure that MS is even diagnosing the software, apparently the problem was there at the US launch too, and MS seem to think it's a hardware going by the official responses on the boards, which means that the following thing will happen...

1. Customer: Wisper silent console, awesome!
2. Customer: System updated, hmm what's this strange noise coming from the console?
3. Customer: - Hey MS my Xbox sounds strange...
4. MS: - Sorry, send it in for repair...
5. Refurbing plant: Yup, strange sound found
6. Refurbishing plant: Testing, ok, factory software reinstalled, ok
7. Refurbing plant: Nice, no strange sound found. Refurbished. Sent to customer.
8. Customer: Cool, my Xbox arrived!
...repeat from 1

:p

At least that's what I got out of the huge threads on the official board about this. So right now it seems easy enough to just make it use a bit more power when idle, if that makes the noise go away.

Let us know how your setup goes or if you hear any of the noises that others have experienced.

My day one and my sons he got for Xmas are silent I highly doubt this is a major issue. I haven't seen much about this.

Mine is in beta program sons isn't so not always running same version and I've never heard anything abnormal,

Finally got a HDMI-capable cable box from my ISP/TV provider (Comcast, AT&T's speeds are utter crap in my area).

Using the XBO for TV viewing is so nice. Being able to say "Watch CHANNEL NAME" is amazing, although some channels I either need to say each letter individually or it won't pick it up at all.

Anyone else having bought a new Xbox One recently, and is having a coil whining noise from the console when not playing games?

Hey, is anyone else having trouble with suspend/resume since the last update? Netflix and other media apps freeze up, and games just flip out and force close.

Recently got myself a One.

Been playing Tomb Raider mostly. The penultimate time I went to load it up I was 71% complete. The last time I go to load it my file had completely vanished. Whoosh. Nowhere to be seen. There doesn't seem to be anything on my hd in terms of Tomb Raider data. Nothing. Very, very, annoying.

Has this sort of thing happened to anybody else? Does it happen often, with other games?

Lots of people have been.

There is a thread on the official Xbox One forum with almost 50 pages about this issue, but I haven't seen a single complaint on Neogaf. I have replaced my console four times now, and every console have the same noise.

It must be software related. There's no other plausible explanation.

Microsoft thinks it's hardware. They're telling people to take the consoles back to the store for a replacement. People do that multiple times and each time return with an Xbox One with the same problem. One of you non-Juniors should create a thread so this issue gets more visibility. I'd have owned an Xbox One right now, but multiple attempts to buy one resulted in consoles exhibiting this problem so I gave up. My Destiny White PS4 arrives on Tuesday. MS' loss.

Xbox support on Twitter are telling people to do so. Some of these people are complete retards. All they do is telling people me to return or restart their console.

I think it has something to do with getting rid of the Kinect. My Xbox One without Kinect had this problem already back in June.

It has to be the software update. If you scroll in the UI, the noise will go away until you stop scrolling. Same as with coil whining on PC.

Never lost a save yet, myself.

I think TR has had save issues in the past though.

Never happened to me. I did run into a couple bugs with that game, though.

It's hard to argue with that deal. Congrats!

Tomb raider had a glitch that did that, where if you fast traveled your save might get corrupted. It was on all versions of it. People recommended making 2-3 saves just in case. I am not sure if they ever fixed it

I was wondering how many Bone users bought the play and charge kit?

I have one with the 360 and the battery never seems to last long. Picked up the X1 kit, but haven't opened it yet as I just keep popping in Rayovacs, which I often get for cheap.

Do you guys think the Play and Charge kit is a waste of money? I'm thinking of getting my $25 back and maybe putting it towards a game.

Rechargeable batteries is the way to go. PnC never last long.

I bought one. Usually lasts me a week but most of it's use is spent watching Netflix or TV (family). Gaming maybe 1-2 hours a night.

just buy rechargeable batteries. They'll work in more things and are cheaper.

I'm thinking of just sticking with my Rayovacs. I usually get packs of 18, for cheap. For the record I bought the system in June, and am now only on my second pair of batteries.

The one with the cable + battery pack, right?

Never got the X360 version of it, but it's worked great for my XBO controllers. Even with my heavy Guacameele playing, I only had to charge it like once in the 11+ hours combined playing through it.

Granted I have the media controller for general Twitch/TV viewing, so maybe that helps the controller battery?

I think I'm gonna return my second xbox back to amazon for a refund. What a shame since I've bought 3 digital games, have $60 on my account, and have a year of gold left. :( Disappointing.

Mine has actually quieted down some after use. It was real loud when I got it on friday, and now it's down to some sporadic ticking. Like seconds on a clock, but irregular and faster.

I'm set to swap mine out for a new one tomorrow, but if that behaves the same way I may just keep it around for all that KI I can't see myself not playing right now, with hooks deep in me from hours playing it, and for Forza Horizon 2. If it hasn't gone silent after that, I'll just send it in for repairs and they can do whatever voodoo they need to to make the troubles go away. Warranty is still warranty in a month, and it's not like it's an undocumented problem.

This noise issue is definitely related to the Kinect not being plugged in. I've had mine since launch, and it's always been dead silent, but the Kinect has always been plugged in. Recently I was painting a room and moved the XB1 to another room and didn't have the Kinect plugged in, and sure enough I was noticing it making some small noises. It sounded like a noisy hard drive making access noises. It could be described as minor clicking. It was only audible when things were quiet though.

Anyways, moved the XB1 back to the main room and it's been completely silent since I plugged the Kinect back in.

So don't bother returning your console. It's clearly not going to be fixed with a replacement. I'd imagine a firmware update is coming that will fix this.

This has nothing to do with the Kinect being plugged in or not. The video I posted earlier is from long before Kinect was optional.

Mine is a Kinect version, and whether I have it plugged in or not, my system still makes the sound.

Neither the update nor the Kinect sensor are the root of the problem - these things are already established. Some say unplugging the sensor makes the sound intensify, but plugging it in doesn't solve the problem.

Is your kinect plugged in?

Yup. If that is the issue (and forgive me if I don't test it, my wiring setup is a pain in the ass), that means it's probably software/firmware. I'd keep the box, it'll probably get fixed pretty soon, considering the rate they're pumping out updates.
