Update: A representative from Nintendo has reached out to let us know that the report is false and the release date will not be revealed on Friday.

The release date for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. will not be unveiled on Friday during the stream, but more information about the game will be showcased.

As for the biggest remaining 2014 Nintendo mystery, the company still isn't saying when Smash Bros. for Wii U will be out. During the presentation, a Nintendo rep said the date would be revealed this Friday during Nintendo's Smash Bros. streaming event.

They're not going to delay their flagship Ammibo title into next year. I'm surprised that anyone thought the Wii U version was going to be delayed.

It's coming Holiday 2014 as of E3. And considering that the Amiibo figures drop this November, Nintendo won't allow Smash U to miss this year (that & it'd kill any signs of life the Wii U got from Mario Kart 8).

Nintendo wouldn't allow Sakurai to delay the game. Too much is riding on Smash U.

Basically this. Delaying this to 2015 would be the equivalent of Nintendo burying the WiiU as it is trying to dig out of its hole.

They'll cut characters if they have to ( ;_;7 Lucas) , but it'll be 2014.
