I'm a PS fanboy and I don't believe that's true though. September will be good for Sony but October November and/or december is kinda in the favor of MS with Sunset Overdrive and the Halo. Microsoft is pushing harder and harder with price cuts and bundles. I think this christmas they are gonna have so much packs: COD+XB1, Halo+XB1, Sunset+XB1 all for 399 probably. I don't think Driveclub and LBP3 can excite as much people as the Halo fans...

How many bundles and price cuts have worked for MS though? September is about to be the start of this gaming season and Sony with the Destiny bundle is about to mop up. That said come Nov. and Dec. both consoles will sell well regardless. BOTH will have amazing bundles.

This holiday Sony can go crazy with bundles too. PS4+GTAV, Destiny Bundle, LBP3 and PS4. It should be fun.

Actually, I think LBP has a bigger and wider appeal than Sunset Overdrive but what really matters for both platforms are the heavy weight from third parties.

PS4 is really underperforming as a market leader, at least in the early days of this gen.
This has been my biggest concern for the gen in NA so far. We have to look back two generations to find a market leader that is performing this badly on a monthly basis. Much higher start yes, but it will be within a year with this level of sales before PS4 has fallen behind PS2 launch aligned. And it already has fallen behind Wii.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
It took Sony less time than PS2 to get to 10 mil. I think their fine, especially after the holiday season and games come with regularity next year

Vita demand is low, so doesn't make sense that Sony is having difficulty filling the stores.

I suppose is supply constrained simply because stores refuse to buy greater amount of units.

Maybe Vita will remain supply constrained permanently and die quickly (next year).

Why are people comparing Madden to CoD in terms of brand strength tied to a platform? You guys do realize that when Madden was at its peak, ALL marketing was for PS2.

Even last gen Madden was never really dominant on 360. The 360 to PS3 CoD sales were much more in favor of 360 in comparison to Madden. There was even multiple Madden PS3 bundles.

I'd say that Madden was barely stronger on 360 than PS3 last gen tbh. And If we're looking at history prior to that, it was obviously a PS dominant brand.

This was never the case with CoD. It was always tied to Xbox more because it released there first with CoD2. The later Microsoft/Activision deals also contributed to this obviously. There was a never a point and time where CoD was synonymous with PS, as it was with Madden for YEARS.

Add in to the fact that Madden (or any EA game for that matter) never had true online play on the Xbox until 2004, and it makes sense as to why Madden was always synonymous with PlayStation. I hate to use the word, but PlayStation was pretty much the "dudebro" console before Microsoft entered the industry.

Lol how can you say this when both ps4 and xbone are outselling there predecessors by 70%
Because of just how front-loaded those sales have been. Within the year unless PS4 sales sustain significant monthly improvements will be behind PS2 launch aligned. Already behind Wii.

Now either their stellar launches and availability are dampening interest in nonholiday months or a sizable chunk of buyers have left the dedicated console market. This holiday season will give us some insight into current market realities.

Worst part is software down, which has been pretty common this year it seems. Isn't that really bad news, considering how lethargic late last generation was in regards to growth?
Well, these charts don't count bundles and there are a lot more bundles right now than there were last year, I believe.

The two biggest console sellers ever.

Pretty sure every console maker would sign to "under perform" close to PS2 and Wii...

Good point. TBH, Madden didn't become completely tied to Xbox until about 2009.

Madden on the 360/PS3 was in a funk for the first half of the gen which kept the PS2 version of Madden relevant for a longer amount of time than originally expected.

The PO culture and social media aid do help them to be more front-loaded comparatively.

But shouldn't the PS4 sales not to be looked in a isolated case because of what happened last gen where the bulk of PS2 fanbase went over to 360 in America and Sony hasn't exactly capture back the audience?

PS1 actually outsold Wii. Wii is the fastest selling console ever though. With the steepest starkest drop-off.

That doesn't actually hurt my point though. Nothing on the market in dedicated gaming consoles is exciting the market at large. The people that make the bulk of console sales are sitting out the race currently. Whereas in the two prior generations they chose their horse in the race early on.

All of a sudden 6k are normal sales and a month of 56k is ignored. Shouldn't have come as a surprise I guess.

People still get this mad at lighthearted jabs at the Vita in NPD threads at this point?

well.....have it your way then, I guess

(I mean really even if we use a more "normal" figure it would be 2-3 months anyway)

I think it does matter. For all of Call of Duty's brand power, it has never skyrocketed a $500 console bundle to the top of the charts. And a $500 XB1 SKU has yet to skyrocket itself past a $400 PS4 SKU. I'm not going to presume one bundled with a game also on PS4 is going to be the one to do it.

Surely you can't find much fault with my "believe it when I see it" position?

I haven't suggested that the CoD bundle and Halo Remake collection will propel the XB1 past the PS4 in November. If you look at a few of my previous posts in the thread, they will confirm this.

I DO think CoD will sell more on XB1 than PS4, but that's an entirely different story, which I'm not going to argue further because I've already given my points in this thread and in multiple other threads on why that is.

Again, no one has presumed anything about hardware sales, I merely suggested that the bundle will sell very well and some are underestimating it, which doesn't mean it will necessarily outsell the PS4 in November.

It's also not only a 500 SKU vs a 400 PS4 sku anyway. It would be that plus Halo MCC and the Sunset bundle, but I haven't said that it will outsell the PS4 regardless.

I doubt CoD has ever been included in a $500 bundle, so of course it hasn't. The original 360 never had a $500 price point so that would be impossible as it was the console with the exclusive marketing rights.

I have no idea who will outsell who in November as their are too many factors in play to accurately predict such a thing right now. However, I wouldn't downplay the potential that a CoD bundle could have combined with the other above things.

Considering how much it costs to develop a modern game, the pie being smaller is horrific news for anyone that doesn't make indie style platforms or CoD/GTA/football games.

Video games are stale now because it's too much of a risk for too little money. Don't believe me? Just look at the OP's list. There is nothing of note on there.
