In NPD september thread people will mocking that, but is just a fact.

Selling less than 200k for several months is not what we should expect for a leader.

Why wait? I'll mock it right now. It's not enough for a console to be the top seller any more. It has to lead with more authority. Ten million consoles in nine months? Come on, Sony, you can do better than that. allan-bh told me so!

It's like you've never had a statistics class.

Edit: these statistics MATTER because video game businesses are... businesses. That means they must make a profit, which means they have to adjust spending, i.e. game development, on statistical trends that they can apply to their revenue stream models.

You look only for places? I'm looking to actual sales.

And I'm talking about USA sales, not WW.

So good. Gif

Nice bump for Xbox. They have to be pleased with how the changes in strategy have worked in the marketplace. They've done a great job offering the console at a price that undercuts the PS4 here in the U.S., too.

I don't know about you,but if I have a product that retails at the same price as the competition with a pack in of a $60 dollar game and still sell less, I wouldn't be pleased.

XB1 isn't 499 anymore, it's 399 with a free game.

Did I imagine that some statistics came out stating the combined digital software sales of PS4/XBO account for less than 10% of software sold?

That sounds about right, especially for hardcore games.

NPD retail sales are still extraordinarily relevant to developers...contrary to what Polygon might say.

Ok then we are largely in agreement in our skeptical/wait-and-see positions. I haven't suggested that the COD bundle wouldn't sell well, just that I was underestimating it. It seems to me that give only that information, it's not possible to determine whether my assessment is misguided or not until we've established what that over/under estimate is. I assumed it was win November. If that's not it, then I was mistaken.

Correct. Perhaps, that may be the case, but it seemed to me that you were trying to "downplay" the effect that CoD bundle could have simply because it was $500.

I replied because I feel that the console being $500 won't be a limiting factor because of the things it comes with and the strength of Call of Duty especially in the US/Canada, since we're discussing NPDs. If you were not trying to diminish the bundle, then fair enough.

However, to me it seemed like you were suggesting that it selling well was SOLELY because of lack of interest in Sunset Overdrive, which quite frankly made no sense.

I never stated a single thing about them winning November NPD, so yes you were mistaken.

How much longer until the PS4 possibly outsells Xbox One on a consistent basis based on the fact that gamers will be buying the console because their friends and family own it?

That alone is what basically helped propel the 360 for years above and beyond the PS3 in sales.

Talk about completely missing the point...

Hmm, just me or is SCEA refusing to give the Vita a second chance? See major grat deals on it here in Europe, even sells out in tiny Sweden, but does US get them as well?

And yes, thread moving to fast, can't read fast enough but did Vita really do <10k? :/

So since bundled games aren't counted in NPD, what are the odds of Destiny XB1 outselling the PS4 version in next month's NPD report? I mean, most people getting the XB1 this week are choosing Destiny as their free game, and that's not technically a bundle.

IMO the real test for the new consoles will come as soon the cross-gen games dissapear, that means at the end of the year and next one. With Modern Warfare, Unity and others released we'll see the real potential of the next-gen consoles.

And, yeah, I'm not even counting the Wii U, the things is already a huge failure by any measure.

But surely, things don't look too good for the console industry.

Well it's a bit down from 2007:

PlayStation 3 130.6K
Xbox 360 276.7K

Next month is Destiny though it's also the hard comp to Halo 3:

PlayStation 3 119.4K
Xbox 360 527.8K
2007 had the benefit of Bioshock for the 360. Next month will certainly be interesting in terms of Halo v. Destiny. Bungie v. Bungie.

The 360/PS3 market is about all that's left buying dedicated devices at this point.

Handhelds are rocking an 80-85% gen over gen decline and the Wii market isn't far behind.

The PS2 had some of that market too so part of that's went up in smoke too under pressure from smart devices and PC.

It's the reality of a market that only puts out titles for the core of the 360/PS3 market and nothing else at retail.

That said, that particular comparison doesn't look bad.

Not happening

That's only for the Top 10 Software charts that bundles aren't counted. NPD does indeed count all bundled software sales and we will likely get them next month

September through December puts out a strong showing for PS4/XB1 so these are comps they want to match or win.

October in particular was not stellar for 360/PS3 in 2007 due to lacking the same impact as BioShock and Halo whereas it is strong this year.

So from what I gather, less than 200K is not favorable?

Unfortunately, I feel as though the audience that was had previously has moved on. As to what's left? Remnants of such.

This is unfortunate, honestly. How can gaming expect to grow?

Okay, so this is the point in the thread where we all say "next month should be interesting!" just like all the others and the next month ends up being exactly the same? "But wait! A bundle!" It's not going to change the overall picture or general stories and trends we have all year. I'm actually more interested in the bump the XB1 will get without a special Destiny bundle than Sony will get with it. More "organic" of sales, you could say? A better marker of the big picture on where some demographics are going. It will, of course, get absolutely murdered.

Probably as we go through this holiday season? Though the Destiny (game and bundle) seems to be selling very well on "play with my friends" energy and could be teasing this.
