LR was open world... it just ran like complete shit because the engine couldn't handle it.

well...the horror of crystal tools...

I really didn't feel the "open worldness" that I would expect from LR. It felt like they just gave 4 big areas each with unique theme to play around...

I am not expecting something like xenoblade but I will be fine if XV had fields like XIV ARR.

I guess they never played FF12 then.

But they might get the chance soon, eh? *wink wink*

lmao. I feel like this announcement is going to be the Type-0 announcement in reverse. Super salty console gamers, and really really happy VitaGAF.
Damn straight. I would have to but a Vita for a remaster of a game I played. Unless they announce a new Dissidia, TWEWY, make XII for consoles also.

Can't get hyped, tired of going through the cycle. If FF XII is announced and it's for mobile or some shit...

FFXII is currently not compatible with mobile just because of sheer filesize.

This is why the mainline FF titles have dried up on iOS and Android after FFVI. VII is where they start to balloon in size.

There's an article on it here.

It's literally one post above you where I explain how FFXII is currently impossible for mobile.
Isn't Vita included under the branch of mobile gaming?

I would die of a heart attack if it's only for Vita . . . wait how the hell did we get here. Damn you reverse FFXIII!

I'd be surprised if XII gets released on Vita. Based on the platform getting snubbed for Dragon Quest Heroes and a certain PSP Final Fantasy alongside Square Enix's recent announcements for the machine, they seem to think it's just another phone OS. That's a shame given X|X-2 HD sold well on the machine, but hey, Square Enix gonna Square Enix.

The Last Guardian returns to Vita. Ugh

Sony won't even allow Vita to get sequels to its own games like Gravity Rush, it's getting no where near that mess.

Million Arthur Vita port confirmed :)

You're a year late to that.

You know there will be some hella lucky kid who'll go into a store one day with 60$ in his/her hand to buy a game.

The lucky kid will then find a game called Final Fantasy XV and its amazing trailer will be shown on the screen at GameStop.

S/he knows nothing about it, didn't follow it for years nor is s/he an experienced gamer.

Enamored by the trailer and curious to buy something new for their PS4, they'll proceed to buy FFXV.

Kids like that will likely have a life changing experience with the game and they didn't have to suffer to get it.

The uninitiated and inexperienced have too much fun.

I guess almost of us have had experiences like that and that's what made us dedicated in the first place.

then they go through their entire adolescence waiting for the team behind that game to make a true followup

That kid used to all of us once.

Look how bitter some of us FF fans became.

You know I would love to go back to a classical FF game but modern visuals. You know the stuff that was in FF3,4,5, and 6.

Castles, Dragons, Black and White Mages, the age of Swords and Magic.

FF14 was sort of the kind of aesthetic I was looking for and it seems to be a strange trend of the series as of late. Every medieval style FF game for almost the past 8 years was an online game, while the single player titles were heavily futuristic and sci-fi oriented.

I wonder if Square will ever again revisit the style that FF11 and FF14 touch on with the Castles and classic FF enemies, and less emphasis on technology and sci-fi, For a SINGLE PLAYER experience.

I guess it's asking for too much, for the Final "Fantasy" series to return to more of it's "Fantasy" centric roots and not have it be delegated to an MMO experience for that aesthetic.

This was what FFIX was. And it was awesome beyond belief after FFVIII.

But here is the thing: how many times can you be an innovative series with the same tropes and settings done to death in previous FFs? 9 really succeeded on being the last FF with the 'classic' feel because it was designed that way. Using the same style would feel rather redundant.

Technically did SE disconfirm FF15 for TGS ?

They did for E3 and pretty much everything for most of the year ,but so far they haven't confirmed its absence like they usually do.So that leaves some hope.

Can the Vita even handle FFXII? I'd take a FFXII port on the Vita of course as well I need something to actually play on the system.

A lot of the FFs are a mash up in my eyes. Even IX which has the tone you're describing has airships and so on.

XVI will be the opposite of XIII though. It's not futuristic so you might get what you want with that.

Is the material behind Agni's Philosophy being utilized in any way at SE ?

I remember you hinted something along these lines is happening.

The art direction was really striking there.

Huh? It's not "mobile," as mobile refers to the smartphone and tablet markets. It's a part of the "handheld" market.

Well you don't HAVE to buy it. But you will :p

XVI will be a crossover between Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy where you can ride a dragon (that looks like Shenron) designed by Akira Toriyama as an airship.

It will also be for mobile.

The Vita was perfectly capable of handling FFX HD Remaster which was a port of a PS2 game. Why couldn't it handle FFXII which is also a PS2 game?

Let's be realistic here.

Far too often people tend to come to the conclusion that innovative means making it more good or better. There are times when developers try to innovate and change so much and end with a less then stellar experience. Could FFXIII be considered innovative to the FF series since it goes in a vastly different direction then the previous games in the series? If that what innovative means, then I care not for innovation.

It's good to try new things but certainly not when core mechanics and series staples are compromised in exchange.

Trying new things and experimenting with new directions isn't a bad thing, but when it comes at the cost of making it unfamiliar or unrecognizable, there is a point when this path traveled goes too far.

Because I would assume FFXII would be even more demanding then FFX and the Vita already has FFX run a bit worse then the PS3 version.

I don't remember ever doing this.

Well info gets distorted overtime and I can't remember exactly when or whether this exactly happened.

But I think this is the string of conversations that makes you think you did...nevermind the inaccuracy.

I knew of three. XV, another one which had a concept demo showcasing summons and traversal involving them and what I initially called FFXVI but now refer to as just another FF, and finally FF7. The middle one is what I assumed to be FFXVI or the next FF project beyond XV. This one comes out of nowhere. These spoilers are very detailed though. I'm hoping this is mobile, because if it's not, that means there is no FFXVI at the moment. There's no way SE can be doing this many big FF projects.

You mean Agni's Philosophy, which I'm pretty sure was just a Tech Demo made by SE to show off their game engine.

That didn't have traversal summons and transformations.

Agni holds a crystal, says something and summons a dragon.
I can't imagine it be anything but Agni's. I can't think of any other concept demo that showed "summons" and traversing the environment with them.

so you didn't but others did I guess.

I see where you got your line of thinking from. But no, I wasn't referring to the Agni tech showcase (that's not what a concept demo looks like), that's just what those posters assumed. And XVI is in development, it's not just concept now. I didn't know that for a fact 9 months ago, I do now.

Apologies for misremembering stuff.

The Vita version naturally is going to run worse then the PS3 version which has considerably more powerful hardware. A performance difference with the PS3 port would also possibly mean it was the main development platform which means the Vita likely wasn't optimized as much.

There are quite a few games developed from the ground up on for the Vita that the PS2 would be incapable of running.

I'm sure it's just a matter of optimization, but I don't foresee it as impossible for the Vita to run a upscaled / HD port of FFXII with much difficulty, it wouldn't run nearly as well as a PS3 or PS4 port naturally, but it would run it nonetheless.

Let's focus on XV first. I think everybody and their mother knew about the next entry being in development and just because an 'insider' commented on it, it doesn't change a thing.
