Smash Bros. 3DS Rom Dump Contains Evidence of DLC Plans

Probably unsurprising, but it seems clear that this game will be getting the Mario Kart 8 treatment.

3342.You will need to update the
3343.software via Nintendo eShop
3344.before using the in-game shop.

Huh.
Proof of DLC.

The following text appears in the Sm4sh Rom Dump:

Set the stages that won't appear, even when selection is set to random.
All Off
All On
Turn all stages off.
Make all stages available when using random stage selection.
See stages you have downloaded.
See all regular stages.
Select OFF to exclude this stage from random stage selection.
Select ON to include this stage in random stage selection.
It matches the stage selection in additional rules perfectly.

Also note the notice the missing square, just like in the stage selection screen. That's where you can select the DLC.

I originally posted this on Smashboards and then on Reddit.
Got a source for the ROM dump info?
From Kaphotic, who has done some Pokemon hacking. It also has the English text for the whole game.

I'm not sure about the legitimacy of this, but I think most people are expecting some sort of DLC. It makes too much sense.

a MK8-like treatment (in terms of actual contents, additional contents and related price) would be...well, amazing.

I was worried the DLC wouldn't include new stages and just characters. I always loved how Brawl had 40+ stages.

You usually have a few favorite characters you play over and over so a wide variety of stages is very important to keep things fresh. Hopefully with DLC it'll get to at least Brawl's number especially for the Wii U version.

I would prefer just bringing back Brawl and Melee stages for DLC and devoting more resources to original DLC characters.

It is inconclusive as it could be leftover text from the stage builder (which is rumored to still be in the Wii U release) or something. Remember in Brawl you could download stage builder stages or something.

I think this was confirmed fake.
I remember people wrote fake Harry Potter books back in the day but nearly 700 smash bros trophy descriptions?

I guess that doesn't exclude parts of it being changed ans passed around Chinese whispers style.

Something interesting. I assume this was in the Japanese credits:
Dutch Translation
Russian Translation
Portuguese Translation
NOE don't do those 3 particularly often (Russian is especially rare).

Could posibly also mean Nintendo will distribute custom-made stages like Brawl again (hello Stage Builder on WiiU?), but since we have zero evidence of a Stage Builder right now, DLC indeed is the most likely explanation at the moment :3

Does that exact line appear in Brawl?
My memory is a bit hazy, but IIRC downloaded stages would appear with all other SB stages under Custom, they just had a green downwards arrow next to their name.

Lucas! Come back!

It is only logical for them to do it - there is an absurd amount of money in Mario Kart and Smash DLC and you can 'milk' them for years to come if you'd be able to have a team constantly working on them.

And I'd be fine with Smash and Kart as a service. These are games everybody can come up with something they are missing. These games are never finished and you could probably add old maps and characters from older games for years until you had to make something new and people would buy them all..

DK and Metroid stages please.

I think that the chances of them doing DLC and NOT adding characters are absolutely minuscule.

This is what I want to believe, it couldn't happen without characters. They'd never do it without characters. That would be crazy, right? I mean, it would be the troll of the decade. It would be as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Sakurai wouldn't do that to us, he'd never....

they'd never....

A few days ago, my boyfriend was invited to a Smash Bros 3DS press event. The Nintendo reps told people the game would have DLC, and people were surprised because it wasn't a reveal, more like a " game will have this and that game modes and DLC". They thought it was widely known. My boyfriend asked them in private if it was regular DLC or not and they said it was regular DLC but they couldn't disclose what will come of it yet.
A website reported it and shortly after it, they had to edit it by Nintendo's request, clarifying they were talking about future patches, not DLC.

I'm fully convinced they were really talking about DLC as we imagine it, but they were doing damage control of their slip up

I'm pretty sure Zako is the Japanese name for the alloys.
This threw me off snd_se_narration_characall_FightingAlloyTeam I guess Zako is used for single alloy or something...

I love the trophy narrator having a personality now:
In Super Mario Bros., the first enemy Mario encounters is a Goomba. I lost a life to it just seconds after starting! If you add some easily removable wings to that creature, you've got yourself a Paragoomba. Flying mushrooms—that really does just sound nuts.
The narrator is not Sakurai but someone who wrote dialogue for the Mother series.

vaanrose from SmashBoards and I found out there's a menu item that's unused in the current game. It appears next the Conquest/ Spectate on the online menu. Which completes the incomplete capsule in the Online area.

According to the 3rd text dump, it theoretically could be a share area.

With Friends: Play online with friends from your friend list!
With Anyone: Play with people from all over the world!
Spectate: Watch other players smash it up!

Share: Share your Mii Fighters, snapshots, and more via the Internet!

Conquest: Teams of fighters battle for supremacy. Support your team and win rewards!

The hand icon is to share Mii Fighters, and snapshots (Maybe DLC?).

We are also speculating that there is an in-game store, due to a message appearing but we haven't found any text that relates to it.

Yeah, I have heard of the situation. It was funny how they aren't on same page with Nintendo LTD.
