I did start off like that when I first got my first apartment, but after a while I settled down and maybe dressed up a few times a month, or not at all for a while.

Tbqh, the only reason that I take long breaks from dressing is because I can't do it all the time without getting hassled or discriminated against.
I'd like to able to CD as much as I dress in drab. I really am planning to go all out when I start supporting myself.

Yay, crossdressers deserve love and respect, too.

I know some transgender people don't like crossdressers. And I think that's sad. Because people deserve to present their gender and express their gender however they want to. You don't have to be a woman to present and express yourself in a feminine fashion and you don't have to be a man to present and express yourself in a masculine fashion.

I like how many people challenge gender roles and stereotypes. Gender roles are one of the worst things ever in my opinion.

I love gender non-conformity of all kids. It's one of my favourite favourite things.

Welcome to the thread HolyBaikal; thanks for the love! :)

There are definitely are some trans women and trans men who have problems with folks like CDs and Drags.
Though I usually see the brunt of the hostility coming from some trans women. Which makes sense seeing as there are still many people in our society who wrongly use "transvestite" as a catch all term to describe feminine/effeminate male bodied individuals who wear cis women's clothing (simply because they're uneducated about things like gender identity, sexuality, and gender expression)
This obviously leads to some pretty hurtful assumptions (which can really hurt the movement for trans rights and visibility), and it doesn't help that transgender is big old umbrella term with 6 diff groups smashed into it.
With all that in mind...I personally don't condone being a huge jerk to other marginalized people (Especially ones that you share similarities with.)

On a lighter note this is so pretty

I wanna look like a tropical princess! OuO
I need more long flowy dresses and giant flower headpieces in my closet.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think it's sad that many transwomen who identify as transwomen get mistaken for or treated like crossdressers who identify as men. Or genderqueer people are also sometimes treated as a gender they're not.

I want to look like a tropical princess, too. That flower in their hair is so pretty!

Yeah, it is really sad.
Heck, I was just searching pinterest for crossdressers (I wanted to find some high quality pretty/tasteful positive images of CDs) and most of the results are pictures of beautiful young trans women that are often misgendered by the pinner ("Omg this boy makes such a pretty girl! I can't believe how cute he is!")
It's ridiculous and quite indicative of the problematic way that most cis people view Trans women.
I think we all really need to make an effort to educate misinformed cis people when ever we can.

I want to look like a tropical princess, too. That flower in their hair is so pretty!

Oh my gosh, yes; the flower is so cute and girly.
I actually need to invest in some hair accessories.

I'll be honest, I used to have a problem with TVs and CDs when I was first starting out, but that was because I was coming from a position of ignorance, and I felt resentment at possibly being 'lumped' in with folks who had/have no intention of changing their gender. It was only through greater experience socialising with different types of people that I came to realise I was being unfair. One of the greatest strengths of exploring or confounding gender norms is the huge diversity it brings up, and I feel I grew a lot in the early stages if transition from it.

It still bothers me that I do get misgendered by ignorant folk who sometimes think I'm crossdressing or genderfluid, but then I just have to remind myself that some people aren't coming at it from a malicious angle. They're just ignorant in the way that I once was. The people who treat it like a spiteful game and that they've 'found you out' can jump off a bridge though.

I still get hostility from trans women, and I resist mentioning my status around trans women because they often seem pretty angry towards crossdressers.

I do my best with gender identity, but I make mistakes too. Especially tricky because some girls transition but aim for a femme male look. Totally fine, but makes it harder to get pronouns right.

Honestly as a 6'3" crossdresser I feel pretty much like the world would prefer I didn't exist. I'm glad that I've had some support from friends recently, but I'd never go public with it.

I thank my lucky stars I'm only 5'8.5" (hey, every half inch counts!). Slightly short for an American male, but not overly tall for a female of my lighter build.

And I totally have no problems with CD's.

Luckily I can still buy all my clothes and shoes in normal stores.

I'm a 5'10" cis woman so I know what a nuisance it can be finding clothes and shoes that fit well. I've got a good list of reliable stores though - some of which cater to women considerably taller than me.

Would that be helpful to anyone?

YES.

(6'2" transwoman here)

Cool, shall do it when I get home from work this evening!

Thanks a lot!
:)

I'm 5' 10'', and much like Amalthea I don't have too much trouble finding things in non-specialty stores.
However, it would be nice to have some more reliable specialty options to go along with the "Shoes of Prey" link in the OP.

Edit:

:3

Also yeah, I'm not too fond of people who try to maliciously clock trans people.
Believe it or not, this also happens to dressers.
It's already hard enough to walk around/shop/socialize in public (especially for first timers), and it's obviously not made any easier by people who are determined to read you. That's the kind of experience can easily push a dresser right back into the closet.

I .... don't know how that metric system works =P

Anyone have a calculator ?

The US always behind! :p

6'4" is really tall, 5'10" is taller than normal but not too tall. Anything above 6 is definitely very tall people.

My reference is my own height 5'11" = 1.80m more or less.

My sister is like 5'11 1/2" or something if irc. And she's cis.

EDIT: My shoe size is a 10 or 11 in your crazy US sizes, so that doesn't stop me from having like 14 pairs of shoes. lol

Okay, here we go. All opinions are my own, and not necessarily reliable! This post is pic-heavy, so a thousand apologies to GAFers on mobiles.

First up is Long Tall Sally - UK site / US site

They do clothes and shoes, with trousers up to a 38in leg. A lot of their stuff is quite plain, but they have some cute stuff if you poke around. They have a good selection of shoes, and some go up to a US size 15.

//

Now let's tak a look at good ol' Topshop's tall range - UK site / US site

Their stuff is younger and more fashionable, and most of the 'tall' skirts are still pretty damn short! The stuff is otherwise well-proportioned though. Unfortunately their shoes don't go above a European 42 (UK size 8), which is a shame cos they've got some fun ones!

//

Now let's take a look at New Look's tall range - UK site

I don't think New Look has a US site unfortunately, but they ship to mainland Europe. Cheap and cheerful is the name of the game here, but in my experience their clothes are pretty reasonable quality. I've got a waffle-knit A-line skirt that's lasted forever and still looks like new. The good stuff sells out quickly. I've not tried their shoes, but they go up to a UK size 9 and there are some fun heels!

//

A newcomer to the scene, Taller Than Your Average - UK site

Again, it looks like this one doesn't have a US counterpart. Sorry! I haven't ordered anything from here, but they have some interesting stuff. Everything seems to be in plain coloured jersey. Quite a few things are sold out (I think they're doing a kinda relaunch soon) so if you see something you like, nab it!

//

Next, let's try Next's tall line - UK site / US site

First off, they claim their shoes go up to a UK size 9, but it's the smallest damn size 9 I've ever come across. Don't believe their lies! A lot of their stuff is fairly basic and some is simply frumpy or weird. It's well cut though, so if you can find something good, chances are it'll fit well.

//

Right, now let's talk shoes, starting with good ol' Clarks, which come up to a UK size 9 - UK site / US site

A lot of them are functional rather than fun, but I've been wearing Clark's shoes since I was knee-high to a grasshopper (a rather tall grasshopper) and they're good stuff. There's a lot more than just loafers (although loafers are grand), and many styles come in a range of widths. Comfy, too!

//

Now for a US-only brand: Sofft - US site

There are some truly hideous monstrosities on their site (are those tartan clogs? GTFO!) but I have a pair of their black T-bar heels, which have lasted the better part of 10 years, and which I can sprint in. That might not be true for all of their styles, but there you go! Their sizes go up to a US 11W.

//

I was gonna list Hush Puppies (UK site / US site), which go up to a UK 9, but their stuff is really boring this season.

//

I'll leave you with a few blogs that might be handy:

Phew! Now I've got to go and do other important things, like make dinner and sleep.

Haven't posted in here before, but just wanted to jump in and say that this is an awesome thread. ^^ I'm a trans woman, but I fully support crossdressing and drag, and it's great to see a community for it here on GAF, and now this very nice thread.

I'm 5'9.5", but I don't really seek out clothing for tall women. Some stores and brands that work for me though are Nasty Gal (have bought many things from them), Zara (especially the trf line), Uniqlo, and Urban Outfitters. For more formal/business clothing I've found Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers, and Shabby Apple to be good for longer pieces. I've also purchased a lot of pre-owned or discounted designer clothing and shoes from eBay; also designer stuff from MyHabit. There are also good options at places like Etsy and ModCloth. You might find something in the bunch of stores listed here as well.

Hope some of that helps!

Oh, and because I just found a list of male and female actors playing the opposite gender I saw Cillian Murphy and Johnny Depp mentioned. After that I just had to search for 15 minutes around the internet and came up with some very cute photos of scenes or photos of the actors in the costume (not on set)

Johnny Depp in "Before Night Falls".

Gosh, they are all so pretty!

(I think I'll watch Breakfast on Pluto if it is any good outside of Cillians character.)

What size are your feet?
I wear a 10 in men's. It's terrible. ;_;

My feet are big for my height. And I always have to get the biggest women's shoes. I didn't want to say how big my feet are because I'm embarrassed about it and it makes me feel uncute.

As soon as someone invents a safe surgery to get smaller feet, I'm getting one.

I find it quirky that this style of garment is referred to as a "boy short panty" considering as a "boy" I cannot purchase an analagous item designed for my equipment. I have also never known a couple who would have such a physical imbalance that would cause that appearance if they switched undergarments, but alas. Chalk it up to another glitch in the system. So I make do with these slinky things layered over an appropriately designed thong of matching color. Also a good combo under a tutu. I just got my new black one today! It's so beautiful ;_;

Awww, that's not good. But surgery? Well, I guess if you have the money and a surgeon that you think you can trust, go for it. If you don't feel good as you are now, maybe drastic changes are what you need to give you some selfesteem, some confidence. :)

That was a really nice article. I didn't know before that children camps like this exist.

I remember that our teacher, a very open and friendly women did something with our class similar to what they did on that camp once when we were on a school trip in Italy. We had a small stage rented for the evening and we all dressed up and walked like models on a catwalk. Even the bullies in my class (who did terrible things before and probably still do) participated in the fun without hesitation. It has to be said though that the school I was going to a) was a private school b) had a very alternative way of teaching children in general so it's not to be expected from any normal school, haha.

Oh, and the photos in the article were all really heart-warming. Even a mostly cynical person like me can't get around those fuzzy feelings when you see genuine happiness. (^~^)

Oh, and is it just me or does that kid look like Merida*?

Abe Bly's pic reminds me of why people should accept crossdressing more, guys often have great bodies for it so why waste it. :p

Like, not in a bragging way, but I'd get comments on my legs from women who seemed surprise skinny men could have good legs too.

On the shoes thing, I'm on the size 8 so about the edge of available ones, but unless you're outside much, I go for there's better things to spend the money on than shoes... not practical things, but still. Just me, though.

That is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

I like this quote:

Although it is unknown if the kids at the camp will eventually identify as gay or transgender—or even if the way gender and sexuality are defined throughout society will evolve—the camp allows the kids to look at themselves in a completely different way.

The important part is that kids are given the chance to express themselves, without the pressures and constraints of society. I wish there were more camps like that.

I almost exclusively wear boyshorts, and this is the best one I've found (that works for me at least):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007QMUCS/

It fits great, is very comfortable, looks sexy, and washes well. It's also super affordable. I can't ask for much more than that. ;-p

It's true, I wish cross dressing were more accepted. Or maybe I just wish that male clothing could be more expressive. About the most I can do and still be accepted is wear a graphic tee or some bright pants.

Aaaw, don't worry about that.
There isn't anything wrong with wearing a men's size 10, it's actually the average shoe size of young men/older men in the USA (meaning "not to small, not too big")
Plus, women are getting taller and their feet are growing a bit bigger in developed nations. It's not really rare to find shoe stores (with cute styles) that go up to a 12 nowadays.

I mean, don't get me wrong...I know how you feel; we're sort of bombarded with the idea that in order to be pretty/cute and feminine you have to have Cinderella sized feet, and there are a good number of women's shoe stores that basically stop right at size 10. It used to make me feel pretty bad about myself when I finally gained the ability to go out and buy things on my own.
The moment that I started to eliminate this kind of thinking was when I started heavily following the CD and Drag communities; seeing a bunch of gorgeous looking men/boys (with foot sizes that most likely range from a men's 8[women's 10] to a men's 12[women's 14]) looking really pretty in louboutins and other cute mainstream shoe brands basically shifted my thinking to "These people are incredibly pretty and we both have 'big' feet. Who's to say I can't look that good?".

SUBBED the fuck outta this bitch.

Unfortunately, right now, from what I know, it seems like the technology isn't quite there yet. But hopefully it will be someday.

I'm going to have to do a lot of research and I've decided to take my time. The problem with those is that you'd have to mess with your bones n' stuff. And that's harder than a lot of other things. And is kind of risky. And you'd have to find really good doctors who know what they're doing, and would be willing to do it. It's like normal cosmetic surgery, but even riskier and you have to find the right doctors or cosmetic people.

And it would be very very expensive. So I've decided that I should take things step by step and study what to do. As much as I want to be more feminine so much, the most important thing to me is to be healthy.

I'm always trying to transform my body into a healthier one. And the healthiest body it can be.
My health is of course the most important thing to me. I love living and every second is very special to me. So the last thing I would do is anything that would be risky.
So if there's any surgery that would make me feel more feminine, as much as I'd like to be more feminine, if it's too risky I can wait.

You are really limited in your clothing choices if you are going by the standards of what the general society thinks is acceptable. I say, do what you want as long as you feel good and it doesn't harm anyone.

Thank you.

Going to a school uniform theme night next Saturday with my gf and I both dressed up! My first time out in my home town, and my first time out with my Gf! It's a huge step for me.

I bought the outfit and felt pretty cute! Walked around for about an hour and had time to check any problems or things to complete it. :3

Wish us both luck!

Thanks for the best wishes! Looking back at my test photos I'm starting to worry about my figure, but I'm sure that worry will disappear once I have my make-up on. A few of my friends might be coming along to that! :3

I've also decided to do crossplay one day of an upcoming comic/anime event.

I'm UK size 12, which is even bigger in US sizes. :( Sucks for mens shoes, let alone lady shoes. My 3" heels take me past 6'6" (!) Being 2m tall limits my acceptability.

I get all my shoes from www.alternativefootwear.co.uk
Lots of fetish shoes, but plenty of normal shoes too. They have a really good return policy too!

My GF has large feet too, but she has had a much better time since shopping online.

I'm on my way to get some false nails for Saturday!

I'm rather dreading having to remove them first thing on Sunday morning, when my mum comes to visit! I've had trouble in the past when I first started using them, and my housemates came home early. I had to hide several fingers in my palm or my pocket until I could pry them off!

I've outgrown a lot of my girl stuff due to getting a bit tubby. I might list a bunch of stuff on eBay soon if anyone is interested (in the UK). It'll be stuff around the size 14/16 mark.

I'm thinking 'sukeban' style, which is like a female Bancho, tough girl in sailor suit with long skirt!

I just need to find somewhere on eBay that will make something in my size. The long skirt is proving the hard part.

Mid 20th century gender bending:

3497b2e8df657a3a697c34b73394a8b0.jpg

(This old school fish's name is "Dorian Wayne" here is a short video about her career)

Vintage drag, CDing, and gender bending is so fascinating to me.
It took a lot of guts to what they did back in the early 20th century. Plus, they look so glamorous! UuU
They really are products of their time; they all look like early hollywood movie starlets and show girls. It's also kind of quirky that they generally referred to themselves as "female impersonators" (Kings were basically "male impersonators"), but I guess it makes sense for the time.
I believe that a few of these pics come from a very old magazine called "female mimics" which seemed to mostly cater to transvestites (CDs who are mainly in it for the sexual gratification) and people who we would call "chasers" (Usually straight men/boys who pursue effeminate men/boys, and pre-op trans women for the purpose of sex)

Aren't those the kind of uniforms you'd see worn by school girls in Manga and Anime? They are indeed cute, the clothes I mean. Hope you have luck in finding a skirt your size. :)

That is indeed fascinating!

The 20s and 30s were actually quite liberal in the US and Europe, people were far more confortable with queer issues, Magnus Hirschfeld in Germany was probably the first advocate for gay and transgender rights, there's this movie from him, Different from the Others, which is really surprising to have com from those times. While it does deal mainly with homosexuality it also mentions transgender individuals, its worth a watch.

War really changed the social landscape of most of the west sadly.
