Xbox One reach 100 thousand shipped in China on day one

If they have sold that amount, as said above, MS should be getting all big 3rd party franchises to the market. Each series has potential to generate real momentum for the console.
How do they want to do that without completely overhauling some games because of the strict censoring?

What console manufacturers really need to make headway in China are some F2P P2W Three Kingdoms-themed games.

As a Chinese & Xbox fan, I am happy to see this. But I still don't keep high hope on China official Xbox One. There are just too many restrictions and the competitions from black markets.

If Microsoft sold 100,000k Xbox One All-in-One Entertainment Consoles in China in a single day (!) then in the 90 remaining days of 2014, they could potentially move 9 Million more units in China alone if this momentum holds. The Phil Spencer effect, indeed.

The first one is made up, Doffen is correct though, the government approved them to sell 5million. On phone so I can source in a bit if someone doesn't

Ah thanks, that 150k number was ridiculous, at those limits no one would bother doing a launch there.

Remains to be seen if they can sell 5m, but if it does, even if the combined console market will only have a 5m install base this gen that's still good, that's bigger than any Euro market save for the UK and Germany (and maybe France).

I wonder if China can mantain decent hardware sales beyond release momentum, it's not like they will have tons of releases every month without government watch.

I thought that they'd said that they had a license (or whatever it is) to sell 100,000 in China, not that they had sold that many.

Was it confirmed somewhere that this is the DRM-Version, due to piracy? Will they be able to play online on the same servers as the rest of the world or what?

China is a huge untapped market, and hopefully Xbox, Nintendo and Sony will make profit on it.

Seems like China would be an excellent market for Microsoft to recover some losses worldwide. But the legal market for imported consoles is so new... Will be interesting to see how it matures. The are certainly different than the Japanese, and that can only benefit Microsoft.

I don't frequent that board, are the people with HK flag on their psn card really from hk or do mainland chinese who import the consoles adopt that flag because China wasn't available.

I find it interesting because the people there are also discussing if it's shipped or sell through.

Next step is to get minecraft approved and watch the money flow in

MS could even make it XB1 exclusive now. Better yet...make it F2P there

I was just going to say something similar. If they make Minecraft XB1 exclusive in China (cause they can), then some serious damage can be had. All speculation though.

While it's the pocket edition on smartphones, it never set China on fire.

Taking a look at China, Japan, and South Korea - Minecraft has struggled to carve out a long-term position, performing best in South Korea, where it peaked at #21. In Japan and China, things are notably more patchy, especially in China where it's never entered the top grossing top 100.

Here's what will actually get China.

Microsoft funding One Piece, SnK and various other popular anime licensed game in AAA production, maybe in a f2p model.

It's cute that people immediately think what's popular in the western markets are definitely the same in the Asian markets without doing due diligence of checking.

As a market, China is closer to Korea/Japan in terms of products appeal.

Ahh, thank you for that. I'd still make it available, but ya, doesn't seem like the market is big on the game.

.

Sorry, but the reason for that is piracy. Seriously, "every" child plays Minecraft in China. Everyone knows what it is. It is actually quite huge there, but they play some cracked custom versions of Minecraft.

What's the price of bone like relative to the local expectations?

Good/Bad?

Also is it cheaper compared to NA adjusted to income?

Far too high. As far as I know its about 700$ with 4 games and half a year of Xbox Live.
The average income in Beijing 2011 was about 700-750$.

Doesn't mean much until we know more about the market. I mean the stand alone raw numbers are good in the sense of extra sales but we don't know if thats good or bad for the region yet. I mean PS4 could come in and sell a million day one, they almost definitely won't, but we don't know yet.

I thought the launch has been delayed?!

China's middle class is getting richer, that's bad for their government (people will have more needs like free speech and a fair justice system), but good for companies, that sell entertainment goods. And I think products from the US and Europe are more popular than products from Japan.

For electronic products they still prefer Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean products. For make-up too.
For health-products they prefer european products.

It really depends on the products.

What happens to Xbox if China becomes the main market? I've seen people (both in jest and earnest) say that China is important. Sony and Nintendo are already invested in Asian gaming so I forsee only business as usual. But if >50% of Microsoft's market ends up in China, what will happen to the Xbox brand?

Lots and lots of free to play games, with art that is a cross between Japanese anime and Korean games, with a touch of Chinese myths and literary influences.

Also, it sounds more like they've shipped 100 k for the initial shipment, not that they sold 100 k systems. Looking forward for more figures and for Sony to make a move.

If the new consoles become successful, I won't be surprised if we see a new competitor from China next gen.
