[Report] Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Preorders 50% behind Ghosts

Was Ghosts really that bad? I haven't played a COD game in forever...I played Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops 2 a bit, but that's it.

So what are the COD players moving onto? Destiny?

I wonder how big the Master Chief collection is gonna be on XBone...

Kinda expected honestly, few reasons why:
- First CoD after Ghosts
- First Sledgehammer CoD
- They worked on MW3
- It's Not Black Ops 3 (although kinda Black Ops 2.5)
- People are tired of CoD

Wrap it up we are done here...

The fatigue is real over here. Everyone I talk to just wants a break from the game. I can't blame em after Ghosts.

Didn't all CoDs after MW2 sell less than the previous one?

I'm almost certain the first BLOPs is the best selling COD game, but i have said crazier things before.

The biggest loser here isn't activision, as good reviews for CODAW will bring many back to it. No, EA with their double pack of shitty in the terrible release of BF4 followed by the delay for BF Hardline really cost them a chance to take a good chunk of that market from Activision.

I work at a very popular game retailer
Gamestop
and I can tell you that this report is bullshit. The numbers in our region alone are almost double compared to Ghosts

Great news. If the numbers are low, maybe it'll push Activision and it's studios to actually put some effort in the franchise.

Yes, it was really that bad.

It's a mix of mostly franchise fatigue, as has been seen with Tony Hawks and Guitar Hero, as well as the diabolical Ghosts speeding up the inevitable hugely.

It's really hard to tell if this is a signal of genuine decline, or just Ghosts being an abnormality in the franchise. It sold less than BLOPS2 because it was awful, and has made people skeptical of preordering Advanced Warfare. Plus since Treyarch's game is next year, that could easily bring a lot of people back into the fold.

But I wouldn't be surprised if this was the end of CoD. How long can you expect a fad game to last?

Ghosts did some damage to the franchise, but if AW turns out to be great, people will end up buying it.

It looks great IMO. If it has TF's vertical mobility with more customization and content, it's going to be a huge hit.

The excuse last year for Ghosts probably resulting in lower numbers (which later turned out to be exactly what happened) was that XB1 and PS4 had near none existent user bases. Today you have roughly 15 million next gen owners in addition to the PS3 and 360 crowd

So to blame it on any console(s) is just a piss poor excuse. The reality is that in entertainment, everything has its heyday and eventually comes down. The new WoW expansion could ship with a cloned Scarlett Johanson and the subs would not go back to WotlK levels. Its prime is up, same with CoD

In my anecdotal experience none of the usual suspects have asked me about Advanced Warfare, none of my friends. They are mostly playing Destiny, FIFA and League of Legends these days.

Back during MW2 to about Black Ops 2, CoD was the talk of the town, it just does not seem that way anymore, anecdotally and according to Ghosts numbers.

(and i like the games, this is not a "haha finally bitches!" sort of schadenfreude moment for me)

I've been saying for a while how far down COD is and how hard the marketing push in stores is.

Had a conference call yesterday, and Activision is worried. Hopefully AW is very high quality and word of mouth can help boost its sales once it releases.

Yeah true. What they will likely do is abandon the franchise and start banking on Destiny that's what Activision has done in the past.

I just found my reason to not even look twice at AW. For some reason I thought it was treyarch. whoops.

Guess Ghosts was finally the game to make even those dedicated to the franchise realize it was getting really stale. If Advanced Warfare sells below expectations Black Ops 3 (which is obviously happening) is going to be very interesting.

I have been bad talking it in every thread but screw it im buying,
no other filler shooter anytime soon.
Even if BF was releasing I can't stand the theme this year, Bad Company style would have fit police better.

Surprisingly a lot of people are turned off to the sci fi stuff which I find weird. All my friends who usually buy day 1 are waiting a bit for this one after Ghosts. I'm excited but am going to wait to see what they do before I jump in.

Didn't Visceral make Dead Space?

Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey worked on those games at Visceral

I disagree. COD is best when you have team firefights in choke points. The abilty to move many different directions, ala Ghost, will get you constantly kill from behind which gets boring and fustrating quickly. Add in TF movements plus larger areas to be able to use it, it will make it even worse.

The decline is also just as much if not more about franchise fatigue, preorders were down for Ghosts after Black Ops 2 as well.

This is the same with other franchises, BF4 preorders were down compared to BF3 preorders. Would not be surprised if it was also the case going from AC3 to AC4.

The fatigue is real.

When they're infesting other FPSs with horrible gameplay design and causing a fatigue in the whole genre, then I'm glad to see them slowly die out.

Blame the developers and publishers who are so creatively bankrupt they have to start looking at the competition as to what to do.

Didn't Visceral make Dead Space?

The Co founders used to be high position employees at Visceral but left after Dead Space 1. I do not think its fair to blame Sledgehammer for MW3 we all know the legal dispute with Zampella and West and the departure of 50% of Infinity Ward's staff really effected the quality of MW3.

Creed is down as well. While Watch Dogs and Destiny both had strong sales despite mediocre reviews.

People are ready for new experiences on these new consoles. Devs and pubs better start bringing the new IP

That'd be interesting if COD fails to sustain its status as 'super mega blockbuster to end all blockbusters' in this new generation.

This is the moment we've all been waiting for boys :)

Ghosts and the two games before it have literally killed the franchise.

I know some pretty hardcore CoD fanboys and even they lashed out against Ghosts. I haven't actually played it myself, but figured this had to happen sooner or later to the series.

As far as I'm concerned COD can crawl off into a corner and...

Ghosts was so awful it poisoned the well for even a die-hard CoD head like myself. It took a lot of videos and screens to make me even consider getting AW.

Would it be that interesting? It's pretty expected at this point. It's why Activision is trying to push Destiny and trying to buy take 2. How many mega hits survive generations? Mario Kart and sports games?
