I'm not turning down the textures to medium with a 4790k and a 780ti ... no way ! Or even shadows ...

I don't see what's outrageous. No hardware entitles you to maximum settings except multi GPU.
Because of 3GB of VRAM you will have to make some compromises, games will require even more if maximum settings is your target.

Just thought I would put an update on here about my experience so far.

Using a GTX 670 SLI setup I have everything maxed with the exception of textures which are on high. On the benchmark I was averaging around 80 FPS. Granted this is with forced frame rendering 2 enabled. I suppose I should mention this is only at 1920x1080.

Plays good to me and looks great as well.

while we're at it - is there any way to remove those annoying unskippable intro cinematics?
a simple console command would be nice, otherwise we'd have to replace the bink files with blank ones ;/

To be fair though, GameGPU got 76 FPS minimum on a 780ti:

So you don't really need to turn down anything :p

Have you tried simply renaming the files? That of ten works.

I also had run some burn tests without any issue. If you have a recommendation on what to use, let me know.

Unfortunately, no. Unlike cpu torture tests, I haven't found one that really tests a video card. Other than, playing a game, and if you see weird issues, try running the card at stock speed. I first notice that with my SLI Titans in Final Fantasy 14.

He's not running ultra, 3gb is fine.

I'm confused, in fullscreen mode running at 1080P(50%) looks sharp and how you'd expect 1080P to look. Going into borderless fullscreen makes 1080P(50%) extremely blurry. Switching the resolution to 4K(100%) makes it look sharp again but certainly not downsampled 4K quality. And it's still running at 60 which it wouldn't do with one 780Ti.

Average frames don't reflect how bad stuttering can be. If assets are constantly swapped in and out of the GPU you can still pull some decent numbers but the experience isn't good.
The game apparently goes a bit over 3GB at 1080p with high textures and maxed out settings.

Sounds like a bug with the option display. Just play at borderless fullscreen 100% :p

That's why I was talking about their reported minimum frame rates, not the averages.

Yeah, texture swapping has a significant enough frame time hit that it should be pretty evident in the minimum FPS number, 74 is way too high to indicate any of that going on.

I'm getting really bad performances... It can get to 60 really easily but the moment I turn the camera around while in the open world it drops constantly to the 10s and 20s. It comes right back up but still the constant drops makes it pretty much unplayable.

Running it in 1080p on an i5 4670k, 16gb of ram and GTX 770 and Win 8.1.

I've tried multiple settings in game from ultra down to medium and while medium is a bit better, it's still drops a lot.

The game reads any supported resolutions you have in nVidia control panel. If you have 3840x2160 it'll recognise that. It'll say 50% 1080p which is actually 1920x1080 rendered resolution. I think there's a bit of a bug when switching between fullscreen and borderless but I'm not entirely sure since your desktop resolution might be affecting things.

Have you tried simply renaming the files [to skip the intro videos]? That often works.

Thank you based durante!

How to skip the annoying intro videos:

1. Text screens and middleware:

goto:
Steam\SteamApps\common\ShadowOfMordor\game\interface\videos\legal

there, rename:
legaltext.vib -> legaltext_.vib
legaltext_fr.vib -> legaltext_fr_.vib
middleware.vib -> middleware_.vib

2. Nvidia and Shadow of Mordor title plate

goto:
Steam\SteamApps\common\ShadowOfMordor\game\interface\videos

there, rename:
intro.vib -> intro_.vib (plus your game language)
nvidia_splash.vib -> nvidia_splash_.vib

Boom!
title menue in 3 seconds

Sounds like you have in game vysnc on. Game apparently uses double buffering, which is going to drop your frames pretty hard to maintain a tearing-free image.

Ok with my 4790k (4.2) and 780Ti, I'm getting 80-90 FPS with everything on Ultra, except Lighting Quality. Now, that drops at night when there is rain/hail and I'm fighting a bunch of characters at once. It will go down into the 40s-50s.

Edit* at 1080p

You experiencing any stuttering at all?

I'm on a GSYNC monitor so only had stutter when my vram was full but it's hardly noticeable. I dropped AO to high and turned off the alpha blending thing (made no gfx differance) and now have zero stuttering as my vram is 3950ish instead of 4080ish.

60 unlocked on PS4.

I think the more honest way to say this would be: "variable framerate somewhere between 30 and 60fps". Framerates can be capped at factors of the refresh rate, such as 30fps or 60fps, in order for there not to be any irregular judder to the frame delivery, but they can't just be magically locked at a framerate higher than the hardware is able to perform.

Therefor, it makes no sense to talk about an unlocked 60fps because that would imply framerates above 60fps, not below. When it is really running mostly in the 40s or 50s it doesn't really make sense to call it a 60fps game of any kind.

Anyway, I've heard from people that have the game on the PS4 that it is actually capped at 30fps anyway. Can anybody confirm this?

Ok, seems like I should probably drop Lighting too, then.

Can't wait to get home to try this out >_>

I'm running high textures at 1080p on my 760 2GB, turned a bunch of other stuff down though. It runs well for the most part, with some slowdown occasionally when I turn the camera and use wraith abilities. I'm gonna have to tinker with it some more to get the optimal performance to visual quality ratio.

VSync was off but now I shut down the game and noticed there was an update available. Installed it and now it's glued to 60fps... So far anyway.

I'll have to do more tests but it's promising.

Edit: Ok lol... After installing the patch I can even run the game on ultra with the HD texture pack... It's no longer locked at 60 but only drops to the low 50s from time to time.... Haha what a difference.

Right, that's also been my experience.

On a related note, GameGPU's reported minimums do not seem to account for special occasions such as you described. My overclocked 980 SC can't quite keep up 60fps when it's night, raining and there's a small crowd on screen. Dips into the 50's are all too common in those cases.

So in the end, GTX 970 4GB vs this game with everything on ultra (including DLC textures) at 1080p (no SSAA), who wins? 60fps is the prize.

Have the new nVidia driver with for this game come out already?

So you installed Ultra textures and ran the game with your 970 and got 60 fps? What are your average fps? Any stuttering?

That's good news, do you have 2GB or 4GB?

Can a CPU hold a game like this back a lot?

I have a pretty powerful GPU (R9 280x 3GB) but my CPU is a few years old (AMD X6 1050T). I never OC'ed my CPU but maybe it would be worth it for this game.

Could anyone be a totally cool dude and snap a pick of the obmb in motion? I would give you 10 cool credits.

Warning: cool credits may just be too cool.

Yes I can I played it last week and it is above 30 with dips from 60.

Played it tonight on my machine as I was let down with shortages on the 970 I wanted I now have to wait to end of October or even November before in stock again to fur fill my order so still sporting a 7870 and performance is woeful indeed. Had to dip textures to medium (and pretty much everything else) and then I get no where near a locked 60 but the stuttering of texture load is gone.

At high it can drop to single digit a lot and is unplayable. A simple case of the new consoles memory layout simply having the entire ram in one go and swapping from system ram to VRAM causing massive judder.

That said love the game and story and voice acting, some ropey scene loading and why in the hell do we still have fmv cutscenes this gen?!?

What's the Alpha Blending?

That is not representative of Ultra Texture at all. You need to play single player, your game will start to chug (based on reports).

Nah I've played about 5 hours and haven't had any problems. Will make another video after the footy.

Weird, I'm confused then, why are some people with 980's reporting chugging with ultra textures and some not?

Not to mention the game uses 5.8GB of VRAM on my Titan. Now I'm confused, something is not adding up, either you are wrong or other people are insane.

Maybe it's not the textures that's causing them the problems but other factors like using Ultra AO instead of High like I do. Anyway I'll show my video options in the video.

It really isn't. I'm using ultra textures(as well as everything else maxed, besides resolution supersampling) on my 970 and it isn't 'chugging' at all. It's playing as smooth as butter. Before you ask, yes, it is definitely ultra textures.

To answer your edit. It's because it scales. It uses what it can. Since you have more vram, it uses more so it's not swapping around as much.

I was looking forward to playing this game all day but instead the game keeps stuttering and I've spend all evening trying to get it to work.

Specs:
CPU: i5 2500k @4,6
GPU: R9 290
RAM: 8gb
OS: W8.1

The game keeps stuttering. It doesn't matter if I put the game on low or high, vsync is disabled, I tried AMD 14.4, 14,7 & 14,9 drivers, installed it on my SSD instead of my normal hd... Nothing seems to fix my problem. Even when I go through the menu everything goes slow/stutters.

I did a benchmark on low and high and got these results:

Low: Max: 808/Average: 90/Min: 7
High: Max 400/Average: 80/Min: 7

Both times the drop to 7fps happend at the beginning.
