Since I have a daily post ration of 0.07 I'm clearly an attention whore. I felt like I could share something I knew with my fellow gaffers since clearly some of you have objections to the state of the game. Guess I'll take your advice kind sir and will shut up. See you in February.
Face it man, you came in here fearmongering but offered no specific information whatsoever. What else would you expect us to think? Put yourself in our shoes.

But you didn't share what you know at all. You just said that you new something and implied it was bad without giving any actual information. Outside of what is obvious to anyone who knows anything about game development in that CD Projekt are crunching hard on the game, and that PR is doing it's job.

Looks as expected for an open world sequel to Witcher 2. It's nothing extraordinary, but it looks good.

Witcher 2 was my favourite PC game of 2011, looking forward to playing 3.

Even if a downgrade happened I don't know why CDPR would do it. They have always been strong PC supporters, its not like them to gimp the pc version for consoles.

You do remember how you phrased your original post, and what you said right? Not with reasonable 'kind sirs', 'fellow gaffers' and evidence but with a hyperbolic initial post and subsequent post full of typos, saying CDP has been 'bullshitting us' from day one and only you know due to insider info. Tell me why someone shouldn't be a wee bit skeptical of your intentions and claims.

Holy shit... So Witcher 3 has been smoke & mirrors all along? I mean SOME of that footage (mostly trailer stuff) looked super impossibly good...

People are jumping on the guy kinda hard but I believe what he is saying. The game seems like a little much, promising too much and for a while now I have not believed that it is going to deliver. Just a feeling I have. And this is coming from someone who loves and defends both of the other Witcher games on here quite often.

Yeah this doesn't look very good. The gameplay they released earlier, while still a far cry from what we've seen in some the earlier instances, looked good enough in most respects for me so I will just hope that this batch of screenshots is not very representative of how the game will look at release.

Yeah... kinda thought it might be iffy in the end which is why I never preordered. Will definitely wait for reviews first.

If it's true that he actually knows something about the development, he suggested that the PC version should be fine, so I'm not worried.
Bring it on, I can't wait for this game.

Well in the end it's my words vs CDP PR. I mean why should You belive my if I have no solid evidence to show? But that's kind of my point, CDP build a very good realationship with gamers and now it's paying off as oppose to say EA. I do have inside knowledge, I did have contact with the game but again NDA and such plus I'm just a dude on the internet. my only point is that GAF should take everything CDP says with a grain of salt.

EDIT: Just to some up my messy line of thinking - don't preorder tha game (especially on consols) wait for the reviews, then decide or don't pay attention to a random dude on the internet and do what you want with your money.

Good morning.

Are we seriously saying or hell, even suggesting a downgrade has happened on this game on nothing else but these six screenshots and the word of one single guy , regardless if his source checks out or not ? even after all the gameplay we've seen seen even if it was played on a high end pc and downsampled to hell and back ?

Sorry , call me naive if you want , but CDproject is about the last developer who i would suspect of doing a "downgrade" .

I do not get the full 180 i have seen in this thread .

Are we seriously saying or hell, even suggesting a downgrade has happened on this game on nothing else but these six screenshots and the word of one single guy , regardless if his source checks out or not ?

So are we supposed to just ignore an insider and visual evidence that points to things not being as rose-colored as we were led to believe?

The possibility is there. It might hurt your perception of the game but the possibility can't be dismissed.

What's more troubling is the possible gameplay overselling of the game the insider suggests.

Sorry , call me naive if you want , but CDproject is about the last developer who i would suspect of doing a "downgrade" .

This might not be because CDPR wanted it to happen. This doesn't have to be taken in a way that CDPR was out to bait and switch consumers. The console optimization combined with the lofty goals they set for the game bumped up against a time constraint to release the game very well could be causing the need to drastically cut certain things and downgrade visuals. After all this is CDPR most ambitious title by a long shot.

I too hope that it all comes together the way we were sold on it - visuals and all - but this is troubling.

it looks like many gaffers are painting CDP as some magical dev studio with only the best of interests of the gamers in mind. Trust me they are not. The bullshitting with the Witcher 3 started from day 1. PR is creating an overblown vision of a game that doesn't exist while the team is in crazy crunch time for over a year now. There's some bad shit going on that if GAF knew GAF would not like.

I'll be telling my buddies not to pre-order, since they are waiting for the PS4 version.
Will wait for reviews and launch impressions.

Thanks for the warning Anaxymenes.

I wouldn't mind if the game is delayed by a couple more months if it means they can put out a better product.

But who knows if they have enough resources to warrant another (minor) delay.

So bizarre. Somehow has pulled the feat of looking worse than any of the previous screenshots from the recent builds. Must be the console version or without certain settings on. Will have to ask Kinley about it.

I've been following the new screenshots and renders of late and that hilt in the second shot for example is definitely not from any of them (apart from the obvious model differences). It's literally a plain, smoothed circle in these screens. Certainly a far cry from this first shot for example

You know there might be different swords in the game, with different hilts.

Can you answer me this question and humor me at the same time?

If they are having these issues getting the game to run on PS4. and xbone at relativily decent detail.

Why did we see a gameplay slice at E3 running on "According to them" xbox one hardware, looking really good and running smooth without issue.

But now are getting what looks to be downgraded screenshots of the game 3 and a half months away from release?

Doesn't make sense to me?(again humor me) Unless that wasn't running on actual hardware.

Or was a less intensive spot in the game?

Just asking if you can elaborate, if you can't because of NDA i understand.

Let's look at what The Witcher 3 is doing versus other RPG that are coming out, in the next few months. It seems to me that at worst, the witcher 3 will simply be on par with The Witcher 2, which is not really a bad thing.

In any case, you should never pre-order a game until closer to release or on the day of release when the reviews are out.

What Anaxymenes said could be true as of NOW, but the game isn't being released for a good 4+ months so a lot can change and he could be less right as time goes on.

point being NEVER PREORDER A GAME based on HYPE. Pre-order a game becasue (like me) want to see the end of it and nothing more.

I like the colors, but these shots aren't impressive.
Also, what's up with that wolf?

Edit: Damn, reading through the thread. Damn.

Not as impressive looking as I expected. The big environment shot shows a lot of rough areas and the draw distance doesn't help that much either. That snow shot with the wolves does nothing for me either.

Still though it could look better by launch but my concern was always that the shortcomings in TW2 would be exacerbated in a bigger environment.

He isn't saying anything wrong... but also anything surprising nor greatly worrying.

All the trailers are smoke and mirrors.
If you look at the trailer and videos released in spring and E3, it seems a super polished product, a finished game!! How is that possible, if they have delayed it until 2015? What are they doing in 10 months of development?
Of course, the answer is that trailers are done to make it appear as good as possible, even if the real game is still buggy, animations are still half done, optimization work is still barely started, etc.
But, that's every game, ever. Therefore, if that happens with every game, including games that finally result in a good game, and games that finally result in a bad game, it can't be said it's evidence that points to being finally a bad game.

Of course the PR doesn't mention the bad points, doh.

And of course their final interest isn't in the consumers, it's in the money, the profits. That's a business for you.

Oh noes in truth they are in super crunch mode finishing the game... lol. That's how every ambitious game is made, and even most of the non-ambitious ones. That's the (sad) truth about game development.

Edit:The part that can be valid is how the console versions are going, who knows if they are less than stellar and most of what we saw was the pc version.

Or you know, never pre-order ever. Served me very well.

That's is better for 99.9% for the people, for me I usually only pre order games that I want to get out of my system due to years of waiting for them. Examples would be guild wars 2 and mass effect 3.

So even if the games were terrible, the fact that I had gotten it out of my system was worth the measly $60.

How long until February?

BZEioALCcAEfKaX.jpg
4+ months. Enough time to make the game on par with Tw2 which was a great game in it's own right. (If the combat is better tw3 will be automatically better than tw2).

Gotta love attention whoring juniors who enter the thread with Tales From Their Ass and expect anyone to take it seriously. Either put up, or shut up.

have been worried about this since day 1, hence why i've personally been waiting till release or extensive walkthrough footage on consoles. and i really don't believe power of the consoles (in case of a downgrade) is a proper excuse.

I've been "wait and see" with this game since the beginning, so i won't be passing any harsh judgement now. but i haven't exactly been lavishing the game like many others.

I don't get this stance. I preorder all the time, on Amazon it costs nothing, you can cancel any time, and it means free 1st class P&P (at least in the UK), I see zero downsides.

Good on you. A lot of places require you to put money down though. I live in a city center so a retail copy is a both cheaper and faster way of getting a game.

No waiting on deliveries, and there's always stores that do discounts on new releases, like Mediamarkt.
