Just fire everyone in R&D management and give up on engines, SE. You're giving everyone a hard time.

HAH! I KNEW IT! I FUCKING KNEW IT! I SAID BACK WHEN THEY WERE HAVING ISSUES

"WHY DONT THEY JUST MAKE GAMES IN UE4 WHEN THEY HAVE THE LICENSE!?"

So this means it will come out faster :)? Because it sure does sound like it is :D!

UE4 is supposed to be really easy to work with on PS4/X1, so Square shifting gears to that is great news; KH3 will have a smoother development and it will really come out now instead of it being vapor ware :D!!!

Sorry but this is awesome news for the game :'). I wonder if this means the 'Kingdom Shader' will still be in place despite the engine change (as that would of made the characters 'fit' within the Disney worlds they visit).

Great news overall :).

lmao

But with Disney coming to PC now, and Square Enix doing lots of PC work, and Unreal engine...

Maybe I'm looking too much into it. How does PS4/XB1 run UE4 games anyway?
There's not many examples right now but these are UE4 games:

Daylight
Fable Legends
Dead Island 2
Tekken 7
Without Memory
Rime
Hellblade
Scalebound

Edit: Actually there are tons of examples. Funny how that works.

Really am curious to know just how many millions Square Enix has sunk into Luminous and to now just throw it all away. Damn! Their shareholders have got to be insanely pissed.

I know nothing about game engines, but did Square really spend millions to develop Luminous?

XV isn't switching. They've already said they repurposed the Luminous stuff to just be a proprietary engine for XV.

Square Enix should just switch to my engine. It's a piece of paper with a scribble of Sora on it. I'm sure it'll get the job done.

Hahahahahah this is amazing, but hey yeah sure, the problem is Tomb Raider not selling 6 million copies.

I'm glad they stopped trying to go further and further down the rabbit hole.

Just stick to middleware and focus your efforts on a timely software release. I have hope this will help move Kingdom Hearts 3 along.

Hopefully we'll get it before 2017.

We don't really know yet. I don't think there are any released games out yet that use UE4.

That being said, the engine is/was made for next gen, so I would assume well?

This is probably the most prolific title yet to use UE4. Will be curious to see how it performs when truly pushed. Hopefully they won't have to throw away all those assets that they made and showed off on the old engine due to "rendering issues".

What rumors were those?

Someone who used to work at S-E (I think he was part of the Luminous team?) mentioned something at the end of last year about how Luminous was basically dead or something, and that the company would be switching to Unreal.

What's with all the pessmism? This is evidence that things are changing at Square Enix.

Their insistence on custom engines is probably part of their ridiculous development times.

Abandoning it reminds me of Sony abandoning Cell.... for the better.

Square is such a joke now.

Once Nomura leaves that's it for the company.

Nomura's looking more and more like one of the weakest links in a pretty bad chain...

Sounds good, someone finally had enough with everyone dicking around with this and that and probably said hey how bout you fuking put out games on time this gen.

Last time they used the Unreal Engine for consoles, the mess known as The Last Remnant happened.

This game is gonna be such a mess technically.

At least they aren't sticking with an inflexible engine just to be stubborn. Hopefully they have better luck with UE4 and SE can get back on track.

In the continuing adventures of LORD NOMURA-SAMA: REVENGEANCE, Director extraordinaire Testuya Nomura switches his game to Unreal 4 out of pure, unadulterated spite, spitting in the face of those who would rip Final Fantasy XV from his fingers. Suck it, Square-Enix!

That's my story, and I'll believe it 'till I die!

It's kind of weird for me to imagine the Unreal logo popping up before the title screen of a KH game.

But whatever gets development up and moving and progressing at a good pace.

Is 2016 optimistic at this rate?
