Admit it, GAF - one of you is this seller (amazing collection on eBay)

Who bids on this sort of thing? Is there really someone out there who suddenly gets an itch for retro games and buys a complete, six figure priced collection? You'd need an empty room on hand just to display it.

meh, sell it. He's probably gotten as much joy as you can squeeze out of having a collection that big before it starts to feel weird. It's far past the point of being about gaming and thoroughly entrenched in scratching some sad materialistic itch. It's not like he can't just buy what he wants to play later on...or even everything if it's that big of a deal. It's not like he worked up a skill or something, it's as simple as going on ebay and other sites and refreshing until you find what you're looking for.

If it doesn't have the rares it's not worth it.

NWC? Little Sampson? Stadium Events? ect.

NWC and Stadium Events would double the price

Interesting. How can a child make you sell your collection? What is the point of amassing a collection and only to sell it later? A collection of this size is worth keeping it than selling it. I would understand if it were a small collection.

I mean, why spend all that time, money and energy and then get rid of it all later?
He said he is building a new house and already has this stuff boxes up and will probably remain that way until he moves in in a year or so. He explained that he figured it would just be sitting anyways that he could see if he gets an offer that would get him to sell and put most towards the house and rebuild a smaller collection.

It makes sense to sell, he could use that money now and rebuild as he wants. He most likely has thousands of games that won't be taken off the shelf to be played anyways.

If it doesn't have the rares it's not worth it.

Someone in the NA thread that was linked kind of blew him up on his description, don't know if he changed it. Was basically that he said it was 'complete' collections but were missing many rare games.

I agree with you on this, without the rarer games you aren't getting a good deal. If it was boxed with manuals, might be decent, but cart only you could fill out a lot of the SNES and NES library at a couple bucks a cart by buying lots. Still plenty of others that are $20+, but not enough to justify the asking price, IMO.

Ballpark, what should it be priced at? I have no idea what the market is for something like this.

You'd need a complete listing of games to know how much its worth. He posts one but im on my phone.

Some games are hyper rare in general. An autographed copy of the genesis version of tetris once sold for $1 million.

Just looked at that imgur album for a good 20 mins, realised I had my jaw open the entire time right up until I started typing. Good God.

If I won the lottery, I would pay the have that room transplanted piece by piece into my house.

...

Actually, scratch that; it's worthless because there is no Spice Orange Gamecube.

Dat organization, those custom virtual boy boxes, that nintendo handheld shelf. Lawd have mercy, what a collection.

The Guiness Book World record holder collection (I think 7500+ games) had a highest confirmed real bid of $99k from Palmer Luckey, who is a multi-millionaire.

I doubt this $164k BIN will get hit.

Isn't this the collection that had an article on it last year? The owner "collected" everything over the course of about 2 years?

I think there were pics of his children playing Super Mario World on that TV.

My issue is the lack of complete titles. I get that the cost goes up exponentially but if you're going to go through all the trouble, make it count.

Stuff like this fires off my minimalist triggers. I know lots of guys with huge collections like this, and they talk about dusting it and how long it can take to find certain games sometimes, and I'm just petrified from terror.

Do you think that ROMs for all of those games could fit on one external hard drive the size of just one of those cartridges?

I showed it to my girlfriend that was passing around and asked her how much does she think this is selling for. 1000 euros. I'm crying from laughing. She really doesn't value games.

He's got a wife and an adorable daughter. But I'm sure it's not as much as a guy who asks for dating advice on a video game forum.

I'm not even hating on him tho. How do you think he got that wife?

Shit if I was a female, I'd smash. Also, GAF advice is the best advice ;)

Amazing collection my ass. Only an obsessive collector would think having the entire library of a system, or as they call it, a complete set, is cool. If that was how my shelves were lined I would have to take the 90-95% utter dog shit that makes up the vast majority of games on any console directly down to the dump before I could stand to look at it.

Wouldn't this shit be worth more than that?

I think it's cool that he has taken the time to collect everything. How the fuck do you know all of those games still work though, would take forever to test them too.
