I thought the first season of Psycho Pass was pretty heavy handed but this is on another level.

I've just watched Hi☆sCoool! SeHa Girls (wtf is up with this name) because I'm a big SEGA fan and my mind is confused.

It's a horrible anime, with horrible CG but all the weird references just pierces my lonely SEGA die-hard fan heart. I'm probably following this one through the end, even if it sucks so bad.

Garo The Animation Episode 1 - HELL FIRE-

Pretty compelling world they introduced as well as characters. Leon and Alfonso are the main attractions to selling it and the underlying scientists priest plot will keep it fresh going forward (even if its something already done multiple times in media before).

Shirobako

This had a good start. Stories that try praise the industry they are part of or about the inner workings of the industry like Bakuman or some Lns are generally pretty garbage, but this cynical take on the subject does make it actually interesting to watch. It probably will run out of steam pretty quickly, but for now it's at least enjoyable.

Naruto Shippuden 381

That sure was a nice story Madara told.

Must be nice having a convenient stone tablet explaining shit that no one can read except for one guy.

It's like an emergency switch for an author whose stuck with no clue on how to progress a story and needs help covering his bases in case something happens later.

Of course that's all figuratively speaking, mind you.

Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl 191:
I seem to have gotten something caught in my eyes. I think it's from this infernal indoor rain that started up around the same time my roommate was cutting up onions.

This was just such a perfect finale for the series, and a really emotional, yet subdued episode. I'm glad we got a final 25 minutes to spend with the characters, and really explored the fact that they don't want to part ways, either. Pocchama's scenes early in the episode really hit me. It's nice for a kids show to do something like this, and wrap up their story with a sad parting, but something very much a part of your life. Throughout all of our lives, we'll part ways with some friends, but there's always the hope that paths will cross with them again. This is one of those earnest ways in which children's television can speak to your soul on a level that can exist for people of all ages.

And there's some great comedy, too. Pikachu's glare before he wakes Satoshi up (as well as the act itself, is hilarious, and there are some really nice gags in the episode. There's a sense that this is the last time for many of these moments, but they still work well, and help to lighten things up. Beyond that, it's just nice to see the characters relaxing for a final episode, instead of running around and getting into a lot of battles (although the one final battle between the main trio and the Rocket Gang is a nice moment for everyone involved). Seeing Hikari waking up in her own bed and appreciating being back home is very nice.

The usage of Together (even if the Oba/Shirona battle was somewhat out of place) and the final scene between Satoshi and Takeshi were very nice as well. All in all, the series wrapped up beautifully, and it was a much better final episode compared to the original series or even Advanced Generation.

Final Series Thoughts:
Well, what can I say, aside from "Pokemon anime of the forever"? I'll try to find something to say. Diamond and Pearl had a tough task set ahead of it. It had to follow on from Advanced Generation, and especially from the end of that, with the excellent Battle Frontier saga. Haruka had to be replaced with Hikari, who although she never reached the same level as Haruka for me, did really come into her own over the course of the series.

In all, Diamond and Pearl was everything a person could ever want from a Pokemon anime. They took everything that worked about Advanced Generation (the dual protagonist setup, the maturation of Satoshi as a battler, the contest format, etc) and iterated on it, while also fixing that show's weaknesses, such as the poorly handled Aqua/Magma arc, and the lack of any real rival for Satoshi. Whereas AG completely dropped the ball on the Aqua/Magma story, Diamond and Pearl developed the Galaxy Gang storyline very well, giving them a few key appearances, fleshing out most of the executives, and then giving us an explosive finale, complete with one of the most shocking moments in the history of the series.

Shinji was the real win, though. After leaving Satoshi with no rival in Advanced Generation, they corrected the course by introducing Shinji right away in Diamond and Pearl. At first, you think you have his complete number. He's the asshole who doesn't care about his Pokemon, and Satoshi will have to defeat him and teach Shinji how to be the 'right' kind of Pokemon trainer. Yet they take Satoshi and Shinji's relationship in an interesting direction, with their various interactions evolving their relationship as differing styles of trainers, and their final fight is a great, strategic fight which really showcases their differences, but also how they've grown thanks to one another.

Satoshi's growth over the course of the series is also great. Gone is the dumb kid from Kanto who lucked his way through every fight. In his place, we have an excellent strategist who trains diligently, plans for his battles, and comes up with elaborate strategies. The Satoshi vs Melissa gym fight is one of my favorites of the entire franchise. Diamond and Pearl had many such great fights, with the Nozomi vs Naoshi battle in the Grand Festival being another one. Satoshi and Hikari both grow a lot over the course of the series, and so do their rivals. All of these relationships change, and they're so much fun to watch.

If a person was only ever to watch one Pokemon series, it should definitely be Diamond and Pearl. There's a real sense that everything the team had learned prior to now was evolved and finely tuned for this series, and it's the best production they've made to date.

While in subject matter, Shirobako is closer to Love Getchu and similar works, in tone it strikes me as the Wake Up, Girls! of anime production. Meaning it'll ultimately end up hopeful. Reality ain't all bad.

Shirobako Ep 1

This was far more down to earth than I was expecting. I enjoyed it though. Very fast paced (though I guess in a way the pacing mirrors the subject matter) and a lot of characters to keep track of but it was a good introduction. It's obviously not the first time a series has worked on this subject matter but i think there's a lot of potential for some fascinating insight on anime production and the stress and setbacks that come with it.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso Episode 1

This whole episode:
6LS7b6Y.gif

everytime the lead character talked about his dead mom, and then how life was grey/monotone I laughed a bit too hard. I mean shit, DEAD PARENTS! THE OPPOSITE OF LIGHT!

Also what's with this town of musically gifted children? The scene with the blonde girl playing a tune with the elementary school kids and all of them play at an adept level I was a bit curious as to how everybody is so good lol.

The opening scene with the piano though. Oomph. That's my shit. The close-up on his hands playing the piano and the reflection on the piano was godly and nerdgasmic. 2good

And of course the first thing I say, I don't know for sure right now but
seems like there will actually be a couple of love triangles at first glance. Not sure who childhood friend likes, but playboy friend wants to fuck everything that moves so I doubt he'll be too heartbroken about blonde ending up with batman. And batman seems interested in her, even though she's currently interested in playboy

So yeah. Not good signs so far, outside of the music aspect. If somebody has read the manga or knows whats up I wouldn't mind being spoiled.

Your Lie In April 1

Liked this a lot. The interactions between Watari and the blonde chick near the end were hilarious. Hope the music in this show is good.

Psycho-Pass 2 1
What a weird OP. All of that repeating makes me wonder if this season will have a déjà vu feel, or just a sense of repeating in general. If anything, the new villian has the same condition as the last one although
this will be full of inside jobs.
The OP also makes it clear that
Kogami is back although is in trouble of some kind. Regardless of him being in trouble, I wonder if Akane will kil him as she promised when they eventually meet again.

It's pretty clear that the new girl's naive attitude is going to get her killed, or make her an enforcer since her hue is easily clouded. And considering how she feels about her hue, that's the last thing she wants. I'm willing to bet she'll start taking those drugs we saw at the beginning.

PSYCHO-PASS Episode 23 The Scales of Justice <299/300>

Fallen from Egoist (ryo(supercell)) best ED of the season, that was incredible.

Alright episode, feels like something element missing in comparing it and the first 22/11 episodes, perhaps its a key character like Kogami/Makishima of sorts.

The plan was intense and made up for the slow start.

Anohana - Episode 7

Kids are so crazy with their giant fireworks sending letters to space. Fast forward till they're in high school and they're trying again!

Menma's faces this episode were the best. So much pouting!

Space Runaway Ideon 39:
If there were no movies, this would probably be a pretty infuriating ending, given just how random the final minute or so of the episode seems, and the lack of any real resolution. Given that Be Invoked exists, I'll wait until I see that before I really decide on anything like that. The rest of the episode was pretty solid, although it didn't feel anything like a finale (which I guess would be down to the fact that the show was canceled, although I'm not sure how early in the process they knew that). The meeting between Doba and Karala was great. Doba seemed to have some good points, but then he kind of went crazy. Karala held her own, and Joliver got some nice moments, which is kind of rare given that he doesn't normally get to do all that much. And Sheryl has become completely unhinged after recent events.

Tough to make a final verdict on the series without watching the movies, but I'll say for now that I did generally enjoy myself, even if the show was completely uneven in just about every way imaginable.

That Psycho-Pass 2 OP from Tosite Sigure sounds like a mix of their previous OP songs. Tokyo Ghoul's Unravel was certainly immediately on my mind.

Listening twice to it left me with a fairly average impression I have to say though.

Having actually watched the OP now since I'm considering to drop the show...the visuals are really interesting. Like the different-artstyle Akane and the repeating segments. It also gets me much, much more interested in the plot and characters than this first episode did.

This is pretty much exactly what I wanted it to be. That's a satisfying feeling.

First, from a technical perspective: PA Works has come a really long way in their use of CG backgrounds. Their work in shows like Angel Beats is practically a punchline among some users of this thread, but here nearly every background is CG, yet it's tough to tell. That's awesome, because you know they'll be getting a ton of use out of the inside of this anime studio over the course of the show, and that frees up budget for use elsewhere. I even enjoyed the exaggerated Initial D-esque CG car chase.

I like the storytelling so far, too. The typical anime series with this premise starts and finishes in the first three minutes, and then they throw you into the present without holding back. Shirobako has a massive cast, and given how unfamiliar most viewers probably are with the anime production process, you'd expect most shows to start slow, perhaps on the protagonist's first day when they're being introduced to people or something. Instead, by starting with the airing of the first episode, they throw us right into the thick of a hectic production process just a few missteps away from total collapse. It's a lot to take in, with tons of names and jobs passing by onscreen for just a few moments.

Luckily, we're in expert hands here, so it doesn't descend into utter chaos. The strong character design helps, but the key is how the showrunners have a good grasp on what their main storyline is, and manage to keep focused on it without cutting out the bigger picture through moments like the daily morning meetings. It's not a laugh-out-loud funny show, though it has its amusing moments (like the confusion, panic, and uselessness of Takao, the inept line producer), but it trusts in the inherent attraction of the subject matter and our empathy for the characters to make this story work, without relying on gimmicks. There are a lot of subtle touches in the writing that they have room to expand on later (like the lead's discomfort with the casual sexual harassment surrounding the female key animator).

I'm really excited for more.

Can't keep myself from watching Parasyte again (why y instead of i ?!? God damn it you animation studios and your special English!).

But seeing the boobgrab scene again as well, I actually have to say that a bunch of us said that's it's justified in this occasion, but it really isn't, or?

I get the idea that the parasite may act impulsive on Shinichi's desires and what not, but given the situation, I don't think Shinichi was even having the faintest thoughts about her boobs or even being attracted to her. After all he was really caught off guard by Murano's approach and how the heck is arm moved to intercept her own its own.

So why would the parasyte decide to grab her left boob (and fondle it good) mere seconds afterwards when he's still stuttering and hardly able to form a coherent thought.

I don't know the manga and can imagine that the parasyte may end up getting a teasing side to it, but either way that wouldn't exist at this point yet.

So really, it's as unjustified as any cliché anime boob grab :/

And now I'll continue to enjoy this piece of awesomeness (until the dubstep hits q.q).

edit:
Btw. this anime also gets bonus points for existing MC parents.

Is it better or worse than Saki?

Can't comment cuz I haven't watched it but looks like Saki is a way different type and genre of anime despite being also about mahjong. The art style alone set them both worlds apart. Akagi is grim and revolves around gambling and psychological mind battles.

To give a brief summary, players have a (usually) 13-tile hand and take turns drawing a tile from the wall and discarding a tile to slowly move towards making a complete hand of 14 tiles. "But wait, where does the 14th tile come from?" The 14th tile is (usually) obtained either during your turn when you draw from the wall, or when the opponent discards the final tile that you need once the rest of your hand is solidified.

A complete hand (usually) has 4 groupings of 3 tiles each + a pair of the same tile. Each of the groupings can either be a continuous sequence within the same suit (e.g., 1-2-3, 2-3-4, ..., 7-8-9) or a three-of-a-kind of the exact same tile (e.g., 7-7-7, 2-2-2, etc. of a particular suit).

The worth of a hand is based on the composition (suits, type, numbers) of the tiles in the groupings and the overall hand, with harder-to-achieve patterns earning more points. Examples include:

- all groupings are three-of-a-kinds
- all groupings are sequences
- all tiles in the hand are from the same suit
- all groupings use tiles numbered 1 or 9

Note that a single hand can match multiple patterns, and the key to earning big points is to have it cover as many score-earning patterns as possible.

To speed up the process, players are allowed to steal discarded tiles from other players if it either: 1) completes a grouping, or 2) completes the player's hand. Note that when you steal for (1), you have to reveal the completed grouping to the entire table to confirm its validity, making it easier for opponents to guess at what sort of hand you are trying to make.

A lot of the strategy in the game comes from balancing the tradeoff between getting a high-scoring hand and finishing a hand quickly, determining what the opponents are aiming for based on their steals and discards, keeping track of the possible remaining tiles in the game, and targeting specific players if they're getting too large of a lead.

The game is a lot of fun lol

You can get a more in-depth explanation / tutorial here: http://www.japanesemahjong.com/reachmahjong/intro.htm

Thanks for the summary! I will read the tutorial and start training in Yakuza 4. :)

Parasyte 1

That was really enjoyable, love the violence, love the premise, love the main character. Another stand out show in a season full of good content.

Your Lie in April Episode 1 - Monotone/Colorful

The music playing scene in the park was the best thing. Everyone looked so happy and it was so mesmerizing. It kind of made me want a Soul Catcher(S) anime since there is so few music playing in anime already.

Watari is better than Kousei in terms of looks and personality. I also cant really get behind Kouseis reasoning for not playing, though its certainly better than a few other series with people who lose the ability to do what they do best (like Chrono Monochromes chess playing and anxiety sitting in front of the other person that developed after becoming good at it). I hope Kousei gets over it fast so we can get to real musics.

I think I've cracked Shirobako.

The only reason this show exists is so that people in the anime industry can show up-and-comers how hard it is to work in the anime industry so that they never attempt to join it. This leaves more work for those already work in it.

It's genius.

They need fresh naive young blood though. Im sure the current animators want to move on to careers ghat allow them to survive!

Is Funimation not airing Twintails today?

Im watching that the moment I get home.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso Episode 1:

For some reason I feel like watching some classic Looney Toons shorts. That being said, not really feeling this show, so I shall pass on it.

have you watched Piano?

Shirobako 1

(and here I got bored of doing caps, too many in any case. The rest is "production problems in anime")

You know what. This isn't the first time I saw a animation company fall on the temptation about doing a work about themselves, about a animation company. For example, I remember the totally boring Golden Boy episode about it, which was shocking because the rest of the episodes are hilarious.

Hmmm...nope I cant seem to remember this boring Goldenboy episode.

Shirobako 1:
Very solid premiere. We start with the 'cute girls making anime' bit, but it's only an introduction into this world, and our protagonist, before we jump forward in time (although I wouldn't be surprised to see some flashbacks in the future). The episode covers both the highs and lows of the process of creating anime. We see the exhilaration (and nerves) of the first episode airing, but then we get into the drama with missing key animation frames needing to be produced in a hurry. There's also a lot of different drama between the various coworkers which feels very genuine. This is a good story setup, and it looks like the show intends to be an honest look at the process rather than a love letter, which is very promising.

Really, the only thing I didn't like about the first episode was that silly car race near the beginning.

Can't keep myself from watching Parasyte again (why y instead of i ?!? God damn it you animation studios and your special English!).

Actually, in this case the y can be blamed on Mixx, the original English-language publisher of the manga, who added the y to try to seem hip, I guess, in addition to Americanizing all the characters and the setting. It's since been republished with a more faithful translation, but the title has stuck.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis 1

Opening: So originally I was just going to say that this may be my favorite opening this season. But then I heard the full version and found out the singer is the same one that did the OP for No Game No Life and now my opinion is basically "This may just be my favorite anime opening song of all time."
Ending: S'alright. Wish this was more instrumental than vocals.

So there's no denying that this was rushed.

And honestly?

I'm kinda okay with it.

Like the only really important scene that I can recall that was left out was the date, which was to show Tigre and Ellen getting along better.

But the episode flowed well with concentrating on the other aspects with Tigre's hostage situation, his top notch shooting skills, and his other interactions (and bathing scene) with sweet Ellen.

Seeing how fast this episode was though, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be nervous over the rest of the adaption.

However, I'm going to try and have some faith that the guys at Satelite planned this out properly and won't just bone rush through everything like a lot of other LN adaptions.

G-On Riders 01-14 + Final Thoughts

From early 2002, this is one of those fanservicey fighting girls anime that still persists to this day. Combining romcom hijinks with anime comedy and battles is an interesting premise, and while I don't dislike the series, the way the elements were balanced was a little off. I was thinking that Yuuki was going to be the protagonist, but as the show went on, the love geometric shape with Ichiro was increasingly played up until, by the final episode, it looked like he was the protagonist. The idea of the invaders doing this as a job, and being good people, I don't mind. Having a subplot based entirely around returning a pair of panties (Ichiro is a gentleman about the whole thing), sure, why not? They even got some soft science in with the explanation for why
Prof. Sanada is Mako's younger sister, but looks much older.
(Things Soukou no Strain and G-On Riders have in common, there's a rare sentence.)

The focus on Ichiro/Cosmo Banchou is okay as a side element - and he has Nobuyuki Hiyama behind him - but it took over the whole show and made the Riders themselves feel secondary to their own story. The series does have a deep love of glasses that I can stand behind, and Zero was good for a few laughs, but Ichiro being the one who triggered her humanity? That was a bit of a "huh?" moment. Ichiro's not bad as a person, but the way the plot used him could've been a little better. It looks like Seiji Minakami would go on to make other works that I enjoy, and not every writer can hit a home run all the time.

I liked the classic hero style of the OP, and the ED was cute. Problematic, but a pleasant diversion.

For my next challenge to myself, Touka Gettan. In broadcast order. I know the barebones of what I'm getting into, and am prepared for whatever it brings.

yep , faith it is.

I hope they will find a moment to incorporate the parts we missed .. I mean yeah they got all the important part , but the side parts added flavor. Seeing how they did try to mess him or to influence him but failed and how they discussed about it what also good.
I hope they will manage to slow donw a little how the events of book 1 are finished ( next episode i hope )

Twintails 1
This is just a silly action show and seems pretty fun. If they don't delve too much in the romantic comedy stuff, this could be a decent show.

ANN is featuring an "Anime Spotlight" for Amagi. In my experience, most things featured there get a simulcast license. They did one for G-Reco and that's a limited deal, but. Maybe something's going to happen?

Gonna be the Twin-Tails! 1

First episode down. I'll agree with the previous poster about this show heavily evoking Super Sentai vibes.

The way everything played out from the ridiculous enemy organization that loves twin-tails to the fixation and dramatization of people's twin-tails hairstyles being in danger was great. The unexpected ways the villain acted in this episode was funny as well.

I got a kick out of how serious Souji (the protagonist) sounded when he learned that the baddies were there to steal twin-tails, as if people were losing their lives by having them taken away. The generic mooks repeating one word, the weapons and glorious attack name call outs, the transformation using a bracelet, all of it kind of brought me back and adds up with the ridiculous premise to create something that was pretty fun to watch.

I will definitely be watching this weekly now.

This was something that interested me while watching as well. CG elements are littered throughout all of the office scenes but they manage to be well-integrated without drawing attention to themselves as CG commonly tends to do. The Angel Beats connection makes this even more intriguing to me. With this and GuP, Mizushima strikes me as a very efficient director who knows how to balance various parts of a production so that the character animation can benefit the most.

Still liking PP.

God damn was this fucking pretty. Had no expectations coming into this but came away impressed by the first episode. Hope this doesn't turn into Friend Zone: The Animation.

Chaika s2 e1

Off to a very strong start with this season, a bit bummed that vivi became a half chaika but I guess with gillette perma dead they had to do something with her character.

Err why is this season only 10 episodes? Is this a close to the novels so the anime is ending prematurely thing?

So is everyone from the Capital just incredibly stupid or what?
You just let a prisoner get in the cockpit and fly off with a highly advanced weapon and you didn't even try to stop her! And the main character decides to just go with it because...uhhh. I wonder what the punishment for treason and desertion is in this society?
I think I'm done. Alongside being nonsense the episode was boring for the most part. I'll gladly watch nonsense but if you can't even make it entertaining nonsense, what's the point?
