Resident Evil TV series to debut following final movie

Plans are being drawn up for a Resident Evil TV series, set to launch following the final film in the franchise's long-running movie saga.

The untitled telly show will be made by the same studio as the movies - German production house Constantin Film (thanks, Variety).

Five Milla Jovovich-starring Resident Evil movies have been released so far (yes, really).

A sixth and final installment - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - is currently being written. So don't expect the TV series before that.

It's unknown what story the TV series will follow, or which characters may pop up again. The film franchise's plot has diverged greatly from Capcom's original games, although still focuses on many of the same main characters.

2012's Resident Evil: Retribution added Johann Urb (Leon S. Kennedy) and Li Bingbing (Ada Wong) to the cast. Both are set to return for The Final Chapter alongside Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine), Shawn Roberts, (Wesker) and Ali Larter (Claire Redfield).

It's amazing that everyone is still alive in these films. Well, I guess most of the cast is still alive in the game series as well.

The TV show should just reboot the whole thing and ditch Alice. No way they can pick up at the end of a 6 movie story arc with more twists than Kingdom Hearts.

The horse died a long time ago. Stop abusing its corpse. Just bury it. A Resident Evil TV could be cool; it can't do the serious (ish) zombie thing, TWD has that covered, but you could do a weird TWD meets Agents of SHIELD hybrid. It won't be anything like that though, it will be awful and make my eyes hurt.

Whether it's the games or the films, there's so much potential wasted. Me sad. :-(

If they go towards that ARKLAY rumor/fanmade TV idea I'm in.

You can do a ton of seasons with the first forest outbreak, few murders to solve and it goes deeper and deeper into the RE storylines, have season 1 being about the police trying to solve the murders on the outskirts of town, Umbrella trying to deal with the situation, the population dealing with this, etc. You got SO MANY layers of stories and possibilities. Then Season 2 is dedicated to the Mansion Incident.

It could be SO GOOD. But it'll never happen. Gonna be about a female super agent kicking dogs in the face. :(

As a gigantic fan of the film franchise (they are SO DUMB in all the best ways), i'm torn. A TV series could be a lot of fun, but I want them to just keep making movies till the end of time.

I hope it's like a reboot of the franchise, but just as crazy as the movie series was. I know nothing about the movie series past the first one except that at some point in the second one they nuked everything and the third one takes place in the fall out from said nuke.

Guess we'll see how it goes.
TV shows have been getting better when based off a property so hopefully this will work.

Not quite. Second one ends with an explosion destroying the infected city, and then the main character, Alice, learning that Umbrella is still running tests on stuff in a new city.

Third opens up several years later, when the new testing stuff goes awry and the infection spreads across the globe. She stops Umbrella's America branch after sending off her friends in a helicopter to Alaska.

Fourth is her tracking her friends down, only to find out that they were captured by Umbrella. She takes out a bunch of Umbrella people, but then Umbrella attacks her.

Fifth is Alice being forced to go to some odd Russian facility to find something with a new crew of people. She makes it out and is taken to the White House, where the leader of Umbrella is POTUS and is in charge of big resistance movement against infection.

Make it a bit darker and violent, put it on late and I'll be all over it.

I don't think there was new testing that got out of control, I didn't get that impression anyway.
If you read the novelisation there's a bit about one of the crew from Raccoon City who was testing people evacuating noticing a cut in his finger and jokingly saying "Anyone got a band aid?"
The book then cuts to the White House discussing the situation I think, so I always took the implication being that one infected person got out of Raccoon City, ended up infecting others and it just spiralled from there.

Not the best franchise, but gotta jump on that TV zombie train. A couple of decent movies but nothing great that's for sure. I suppose a TV show can't possibly be worse.

I love this idea and am bitterly disappointed that we'll never get it

I see what you're getting at.. A kind of Hannibal-esque reboot focusing on RE's original lore. Now I want that too. Will never happen :(

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Jesus Christ. Just end this shit.

I'm still waiting for Capcom to just say "fuck it" and introduce Alice to the game universe.

No. Please, no.

For everyone saying the movies are better: The games had their far share of stupidity over the years, but they haven't had anything as stupid as "the T-Virus turned the world into a Mad Max-style wasteland" yet. That's my stupidity bar as far as the franchise is concerned.

The Terragrigia panic was close, though.

I'll watch it, as long as they get rid of all the stupid shit from the movies.

Hell, get rid of Alice and the whole thing will be just dandy, especially since the only purpose she's had in the movies since the third film is to be a weird mary-sue for the directors wife.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.

This. Especially with the way the fifth movie ended. There's no way they can continue a TV show/series in the live-action universe with that.

Frankly, I hope it's more like the game series instead of the movies. But I know it probably won't be, so it'll suck.

RE6 was the best since CV.

No.

So many zombie shows lately, though this one is a bit later than the others. We'll reach global saturation and only the strong ones will survive.

I want something along the lines of outbreak, with different characters who bleed into each other's stories.

Technically there are no plot holes stopping them from doing RE2 story. Claire and Leon don't have an established relationship to each other in the movies.
