Ubisoft says that MS & Sony are 'pressuring them' into 30FPS on PC; Phil: Not true

Yeah, it's just one fuck up after the other.
Ubisoft is on a killer combo now, although in this case, it's not much their fault, as it's more of an insight on a larger problem.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that another Ubisoft employee is just bullshiting to excuse their decision to go with 30fps and parity because it makes it easier to churn out an assembly line product.

But then, its entirely possible that all of the above are true at the same time.

Of course Microsoft and Sony review code. its called certification.

The pressure for 30 from Microsoft on PC just sounds like he means, since we target 30 on consoles we don't bother targeting 60 on PC and the XB1 is the reason we have to target 30 on consoles.

Interesting.

But when has Sony done anything to negatively impact a PC game?

Heck they dont even mind smaller developers launching co marketed games earlier on PC then console and their own dev SOE is allowed to do whatever the hall it wants and only release ports on PlayStation whenever they feel like.

And even then I dont think MS would be this evil about stuff.

And surely there deal with nvidia wouldn't allow this kind of thing.

As PC gaming and, in particular, Steam continue to grow in popularity you can damn well bet console makers will see that platform as a threat. Since Valve is so hands off there is no real "platform holder" to put pressure on one way or another so it's up to the consumers (ie: us) to put publisher's feet to the fire.

Stop buying botched PC ports.

I'm sure whoever Ubisoft dude said this is going to be in trouble. Console Manufacturer relationship is very precious, and you can't say things like this.

Also, it's most likely a lie. Microsoft and Sony have stakes in PC gaming. It's not likely that they would force this issue like this on a big publisher.

Holy crap at the verification. What is happening to our beloved hobby. It seems it's just in a spiral of decline from one thing to another. I swear there needs to be some kind of legal guidelines/policies put in place so this sort of thing can stop. It should be illegal as far as I'm concerned. So many "dirty" practices in this industry that are slowly coming to light.

Sorry for my rant!

Ubisoft is relentless. Listen, and understand. They are out there. They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until the industry is dead.

We always wondered how Nintendo would survive after how pathetic they seem to be, but this is it. Ubisoft is that trojan horse. It's going to take down everyone, and leave only one behind. It explains that initial support for the Wii U too.

Ingenious, and oh so dastardly.

sounds like an excuse. pc games have had variable fps since forever.

console makers know pc market and console market are separate, and the cross-section between the two is infinitesimally small than the individual marketshares of each systems.

Dam this totally doesn't makes any sense.
Maybe Ms and Sony both know they under delivered in performance compared to your average gaming rig .

This is some shady bullshit if true.

Ubi's history with PC ports makes me skeptical of this, even if it was said. We need someone to investigate this.

I don't think the console manufacturers should be worried about the performance of PC games but rather the prices.

Yesterday you could buy Tomb Raider for $4 on Steam, yet the same game is over $40 on PS4/Xbox one.

Even for pre-orders you can get a significant discount with PC games that just don't exist for console games.

If console games every do decide to leave for the PC it will be over the prices of games and not specifically over performance.

I really hope Sony or MS come out with a PR statement soon debunking this. Last thing I want to hear is more console bashing.

But (assumingg this is true) they already said, in the reddit post, that they aim for 60 but settle for 30 because they want to push eye candy on consoles, which seems like the most honest answer you could get.

Format QA testing is one thing. Platform holders pressuring publishers into hobbling their games on more powerful systems in order to make their own look more appealing is something else entirely.

But please everyone, don't take this too seriously, as my fellow student said on reddit, it could have been simply implied or misinterpretated.
They were "only" two engineers, they may not know everything about the so-called "pressure". The one thing they did talk about most, is that there are lots of hardware restrictions.

You really think a PR statement is going to make this go away? A public admission that Sony and Microsoft are using shady tactics to undermine the PC as a gaming platform?

I believe it.

Collusion is a very effective and centuries old business tactic. These are socipathic corporations we're talking about. Nintendo did worse in their heyday.

Sony, MS, Nintendo aren't your friends, guys, which is why fanboyism is so funny to me.

UbiSoft PC ports are always either crappy or terribly optimized, this is a total bullshit answer to some scary questions imo.
They should of known that nothing escapes the glare of the Gaf though.

Re-read my post. I said for them to debunk this ("this" referring to the events in the thread title).

Idk this is UBI talking. Not exactly the best company right now to believe. Until more developers speak up I wouldn't trust this.

No developer in their right mind would admit to this if it was true. At least not with their name attached.
