The Madden bundle was throughout September too right? So free game bundles, Madden bundles, Forza release, etc?

Yep. The bundles, new titles, and cut-throat promotions failed to provide a competitive advantage against the PS4. This is why a PS4 GTAV bundle could do some damage in November. As much as Microsoft don't want to hear it, the PS4 has become the go-to console for next-gen gaming.

you said it yourself really. the wii only outsold the vita and 3DS versions.

How many Wii games were released this year?

What was the last time ea did more than s roster update on the wii version....which was always a ps2 port.

Think about it, it's 2014 and the ps2 engine game is outselling the vita version....but they can't justify a new wii u version?

That's a pretty damn good XBox One number, no?

I mean, it continues the trend of looking bad in comparison to PS4, but I think the One is doing pretty well, all things concerned. Microsoft probably had a better first year than Sony did with the PS3, ya?

E3 2013 really did a lot of damage.

I would say everything behind the scenes from 2011 to 2013 leading to the reveal and the E3 2013 put Microsoft in the hole they're in.

Overall for this NPD, decent numbers for Xbox One but obviously look terrible next to the PS4. As we roll into the holidays, it'll be interesting to see how Microsoft attempts to spur more sales against a competitor who completely dominates the word of mouth aspect of this industry.

284k is a good, solid number.

Why didn't MS allude to it in their PR statement? I mean yes, its peanuts compared to the PS4, but it at least shows that their promotions and deals are WORKING!

Somehow I don't think they're happy they have to do those deals in the first place in order to move systems.

However for console gaming in general there is the Magic sweet spot that all consoles try to strive for as far as pricing. The infamous 299 has been touted by many as that elusive magic number that if you can hit it while staying profitable will really move consoles along.
There is a very long list of consoles where 299 didn't do shit. And I thought the magic number was $199?

In either case, it's only a magic number if the console is already doing reasonably well. The number of consoles that price point invigorates is far, far outweighed by the number of consoles where a price drop didn't matter at all.

The comments in this thread about "people will buy the product if they want it. Price point simply makes the decision easier" is spot-on. X1 needs to be $100 cheaper than PS4 and even then ....

The problem is that the harder they try to give the hardware away, the more they risk devaluing their product, a lower price doesn't make people want the product, a lower price allows people to afford the product provided they want it, and right now it's simply not the console most people want. The problem is that the more they try to give it away, the more the higher ups would tend to think that this Xbox thing is becoming an unprofitable dead end.

interesting take on the matter. I wonder how this will pan out in the end.

Probably costs them tens of millions in then process for a 100k boosts. All the free game giveaways and paying for the marketing and the Madden bundle deal and all that. You would hope to stay in line with the competition with that sort of investment not head out with a 2:1 loss.

That's my theory anyway. Who knows in the end.

In any other year, in any other generation, the XB1 numbers would be considered pretty damn good. For a September, anyway. As well as their LTD. The PS4 numbers are just friggin through the roof. Its crazytown.

Yep which is what I was trying to communicate in the now infamous Pachter thread. Solid Xbox One performance and its not doomed, at least not in the US.

It just can't match PS4s unbelievable performance. But overall its doing decently and if they can continue to improve could have a plenty healthy lifespan.

Good point. Aqua, you have how many free copies of Destiny were given out with xone bundles?
