Media Create Sales: Week 42, 2014 (Oct 13 - Oct 19)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Since Chaos Rings III just today reached the 1,000-5,000 sales gap on Google Play, while being between 500 and 1,000 copies downloaded up to yesterday, it seems Vita >>> Android for CRIII, after all.

Nintendo needs a big family game to push New 3DS sales, and that game will be Pokémon ORAS, releasing a month from now.

Monster Hunter is doing a great job at selling the New 3DS XL.

Very very nice numbers for 3DS!

But isn't MH4G numbers very low?

I assume sell-through for both MH and the n3DS-LL (Maybe the n3DS too, but that's less clear) is close to 100%, so sales are limited by supply limitations. That and MH is still just MH4 with some extras, so it may or may not have the same legs of the original.

Shocking for Wii U. Disappointing for n3DS to be under last year's already poor figure.

Japanese console gaming is dead. Nothing will bring it back now. Long live mobile gaming!
Holy shit people these days, you do realize 3DS is like the second fastest console ever in Japan right?.

Fucking hell.

Xbox One is extremely dead in here. I'm really curious why they do in Japan market, because there is no way to make a money from this sale, as you got to pay Xbox Japanese team and many other things like print, advert, license etc...

Nope...

...and nope.

The icon on the right indicates a sell-through between 20% and 40%; the icon for 0-20% is:

shouka_01.png

Also, 8.25 is not Famitsu's review score, but the aggregate users' score from Famitsu's readers.
Oh I never saw that icon before, lol. Thanks for the correction.

But that's Famitsu's own score, it says "cross review", and they gave it 8889 (/4 = 8.25).

Eh, G versions sell really well. Dumb excuses aside, MH4 G not outselling the previous installment is a little surprising. But overall the numbers are pretty close.

What's with the MH4G selling low concern? It's already safe to say it's already 2 million by now. In Famitsu charts, it's already close to 1.9 million.

Of course, if you really want to be depressed, you note that the old 3DS models had sales equal to about 80% of the total sales of every non-3DS system.

It's not "safe"... it's already reached 2m (since last Wednesday) if you add digital sales.

Last year's number was poor? Wtf. I can understand why you would say this about this week, considering a new model just launched, but even then: it was supply constrained as far as I know and three of the four models placed above everything else on the charts... It's not like PS2 had nothing but 100k+ weeks in octobers.

I caved and ordered a new 3ds LL. I was mad at Nintendo for releasing a revision so soon. But when I checked the order date of my past LL purchase on Nippon yasan it said 2012(damn time flies).

Every other platform but 3ds is basically dead in Japan, such a shame Sony dropped the ball with vita.

Chaos Rings III Trilogy sold the "right" amount, I agree with you. Problem is, it has been overshipped, and by a wide margin. Decision on how much to ship is not only retailers' decision; next time SQEX will put out a smartphone porting on PSV, though, they will be more careful in getting so many copies.

Well they kinda screwed up for now - what the next mobile2vita port ? The Secret of Mana title ?
It's quite poor, especially given Media.Vision usually does better as well.

Rise of Mana should be soon, but like all of Square's remaining announced titles, is f2p. It just has one of those IAP item collector's editions in stores.

Edit: I may be confusion the retail edition of Agito with this.

It's not surprising at all, nobody ever expected 4G to outsell the original. Times are different, 4G is a sequel and they are usually frontloaded.

It should have no trouble getting close to 3 million though, which is a nice result. This time, they are also releasing the game in the west.

It's terrifying how dead consoles are in Japan, and there doesn't look like there'll be any game that will make people rush out to buy them in the holidays. Sure the Wii U has Smash but I think most people consider the 3DS game good enough to satisfy them.

It's not selling bad by any means. Its destroying everything else. I did kind of expect the series to rise when going Nintendo and if I'm not wrong, nothing has yet matched MHP3. I thought this would reach 5 million if MH4 didnt.

Why? MH G versions have done really well in the past, particularly MHP2G which is when the series truly exploded.

Digital sales for Monster Hunter 4G are well over 100,000, definitely over 150,000 and I should think very close to 200,000.

Agito will be released in January at retail, I think there's no news about a retail release for Rise of Mana.

P.S. Later, I'll post my brief analysis on Google Play sales for Chaos Rings III, i.e. trying to get an idea of how many actual downloads for specific placements / sales trends + an advice about AppAnnie's tracking.

Lol @ calling last year's 3DS figures poor...

G versions sell well but the only times they did better iirc were when the franchise was still growing (2nd to 2ndG) and when it was switching to the more popular platform for the series (tri Wii to tri G 3DS). This is the first time we are getting to see just how well G games compare outside of context. And predictably it's a drop. It is for Pokemon and other MH-like games, and it will likely be the same for YW2.5.

Well 4G is basically an expansion to 4. And including downloads it's way past 2 million and is aiming to be a 3 million seller (and will probably be) before another MH games comes.

And also, it won't basically sell LTD-like numbers in a span of like 2-3 weeks. :p

Remember that retail download codes are accounted in digital sales, though.

Btw, can anyone post current All-Time 3DS eShop Japanese Chart? Since we know Gunman Clive is over 100,000 units sold in Japan, we should get a better idea on how things are going.

Its BARELY a drop and probably less significant when counting digital. I think it's possible that 4 or more likely, 4G just didn't garner the same excitement by fans and so the series has stalled a bit. It can still grow, maybe with MH5.

Halfway between Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Yellow.
I see, then people should be familiar with that concept. Hopefully for them they know that its not a brand new game at least hehe.

Obviously only anecdotal but the return of Super Mario Bros 3, Pokemon AR Searcher, Puyo Puyo Mini Version and the rise of the Bike Rider and Touch Battle Tank series (admittedly the latter are on sale) imply that there are some first time 3DS owners.
I know that you mean in regards to the new model, but i think its very safe to assume that the majority of sales, or at least a big part of it, every week for every system are new owners. Interesting to see those games increase this week though, if it is a weekly chart and the games have been long gone from the other previous weeks charts.

How do we know this? Excluding download cards, because those are counted in the Famitsu numbers.

But Yakuza 0 is a prequel! :)

Isn't that cross-gen though? Ishin did well on PS4, but a large portion of the total Ishin sales went to PS3. With the PS4's install base only taking baby steps since then, and Yakuza sales kind of on the decline, I don't see 0 doing much different.
