New 3DS XL still sold out 品切れ中

Still sold out? How frequent are the shipments?

About Tales of the World, expecting something around 30k. Probably only the hardcorest of Tales of fans will buy those, just like the 2 Vita games.

The problem with the WiiU is that every big Nintendo franchise is already on the 3DS and then you have tons of popular third parties games, there's not incentive for the average consumers to buy a WiiU when they already have a 3DS.
Smash for 3DS was a smart idea for Nintendo because they need to sell softwares to make money, but it won't do the WiiU version any favor. Yes, the WiiU is fucked in Japan.

That's part of the problem yes. People can get their absolute fill of Nintendo product by buying a handheld. Why buy a console?

You and hundreds of thousands of others! But seriously, a unified OS platform, where you can play games on either handheld or console (with that version being scaled up) is the best option for Nintendo going forward. They certainly seem to be hinting at it.

I guess the question is - are there enough people who feel strongly about that in relation to Nintendo games to keep a dedicated console hardware viable in the market?

Absolutely. It doesn't help that Wii U sequels aren't exactly doing things much differently than their recently released 3DS/Wii predecessors either.

Hopefully. Although with Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if these hints turn out to be nothing but another conservative batch of separated handheld and home console, that just happen to get a few more ports (without crossbuy). Because they've also been saying, the combined architecture would primarely help them to get ports out quicker... (like DK Returns 3D? Or things like Smash U/3DS, only with closer release dates...)

That would be a worst case scenario.

Fair list. A lot of mid-tier software in there, which is what hasn't been massively prominent on 3DS. Are the games all scheduled for the first quarter?

(And is Mirai Deluxe expected to do well? I thought it was just a repackaging of the version of Mirai 2 that the west is getting).

Some of them are; Devil Survivor 2 is January, Bravely Second is Winter, etc.

I don't know much about Mirai Deluxe; I thought it was more of an expansion; it should crack 80-90k units.

That would be a worst case scenario.

We're probably getting a handheld and a console that can get ports easily between them, so get ready for the worst case scenario. Basically a ton of games like Smash 3DS/WiiU stuff, hopefully with both versions being more similar. They would both still have some exclusives but if they want they would be able to release them for both systems.

One this I'm worried about that Fusion rumor is if both handheld part of the console or the home part of the console would be able to be sold separately. I mean if someone only is only interested in the handheld part of it they would have to pay for the home console part as well, surely bringing the overall price way up.

But yeah, I agree that the unified OS is really the way to go.

38./47. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 (Capcom) {2013.09.14} - 1.065 / 3.438.315 (+5%)

LOL!

46./53. [3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters - Tokimeki Up! (Nintendo) {2014.04.17} - 933 / 71.066

Awesome! Famitsu has the original at 320k and Tokimeki (free DLC included) at 65k. It's getting really close to 400k LTD!

Thanks for this.
It seems those two big games are not going to create enough of a momentum to change the weekly base sales .

It had such a good start this year as well.
I'm afraid next year is going to be even worse.

The bundle is for the Sony store. i.e. It will be very limited and won't bump the hardware sales.

Vita is such a boring console now in term of sales-age. For a few months late last year and until a few weeks after Freedom Wars it seemed like it might start getting more and bigger releases but the TGS made it clear that Sony is all in PS4 mode and Vita will fade away painfully and slowly.

Oh well.

I couldn't check everyday. But I think the XL hasn't been restocked since sunday, when it was sold out.
I think the same picture is showed in the other stores. Gonna check the following days.

Are you sure? Welp.

They have been doing lots of Sony store exclusives, are retailers not willing to stock their bundles?

If you look at the gameboy vs the SNES, the gamecube vs GBA, ds vs wii, etc you will see that the nintendo handheld crowd has always been bigger tan the homeconsole one, and now with the Wii U, we can see that too , Nintendo should decide if that small group of people that buy their home consoles are worth losing so much money for.

WiiU is selling badly but it must not be taken as a sign that Nintendo should give up to the revenue stream generated by a home system.
The problem lies more in how Nintendo shaped the WiiU (and 3DS).

I don't think it's going to fade slowly. Next year's gonna be rough, barring some freak announcement out of the blue.

It's somehow funny how Nintendo has a great (in Japan) success, that is good in overall terms (WW), while has a struggling product (Wii U), worldwide.
On the other hand, Sony has a great (in the West) success, that will be (now it is not) good in Japan (probably), while has a struggling product (Vita), worldwide.
Cross-similarity LOL

Im sure the new digimon game is going to sell well

I still think God Eater 2 Burst is going to be the biggest selling game for Vita next year, unless there's something unannounced in the pipelines. Which is pretty depressing for hardware since it already did the heavy lifting in 2013.

Persona; Sword Art Online; Senran Kagura and the inevitable Freedom Wars Delta should do alright too. But again, not much for hardware in there since they're all already on the system.

Digimon is the only really announced game that has a chance of drawing a new crowd in. Kantai Collection too, but we don't even know if that's a physical release.

I figured this would be the best place to ask since it's currently the most active sales thread, when does the Microsoft Q1 report go up?

inb4 someone just posted a thread for it

edit: rofl didn't get a response before it went up

I know Legend of Legacy is scheduled for early next year and I assume Xenoblade is coming too, but is the assumption that the console will keep selling regardless of new releases due to Monster Hunter/Smash/Pokemon/Youkai Watch legs?

Single titles alone, not combo of titles, have carried systems after holidays at empty periods for months.

If the hype is there it will be the same again.

3DS will get other new releases in Q1 too. I feel like we go through this every season, people remark on the lack of 3DS releases 3+ months out but inevitably the schedule fills up anyway. It happened this holiday too.

My shot in the dark guess for a big title would be DQMJ3, though maybe Heroes pushes that into later in the year.

Pre-orders for Youkai Watch 2 Shin Uchi reached 231k units on Sunday 19th.
Compared to the last entry, YW2 Ganso and Honke had 450k pre-orders together 8 weeks before its release.
So this entry have more or less the same amount of pre-orders of a single version.

But MC notes that pre-orders for Shin Uchi started later, so the overall start is better.

I went to Shibuya today. And I checked Tsutaya's store.

As I expected New 3DS XL is sold out there too. I guess the new shipment will come tomorrow (Saturday), but I think XL hasn't been restocked yet this week.

It begins! Price drops. For the moment it's just 20% discount, but it's a matter of time it goes lower and lower.

It's crazy, and it will also sell a lot thanks to holidays and the movie, so preorders might not paint the full picture.

Unifying that usebase at this point seems like the only way to even get 3rd parties to look at them through sheer weight of numbers in Japan at least. A unified OS would probably at least cause the return of the bigger yearly 3rd party games (FIFA, Madden and stuff like that) because of that unified userbase.

Really depressing, Japan is dropping home consoles so hard it hurts. And handleds wouldn't look that good without the few "usual" steamrollers on 3DS.

With that Pace, Belgium will soon be a bigger market for Xbox One than Japan...

I feel like Nintendo is more forward thinking with their hardware than people are giving them credit for. The cross-platform idea that they'll likely go with should be really important.

Japan is just going with the trends. PS4 and XBOX One are just faster horses.

Yes, but their trends are not going in the same directions as other markets, and just "faster horses" is over-simplifying. Those horses would fare much better with exclusives DQ, FF or Monster Hunter games for instance.

Faster horses is exactly what it is, especially in Japan where they seemingly don't care about the PS4.

People can say it's because publishers aren't putting exclusives on PS4, but the other side of the coin is that they see the trend of people not adapting to newer consoles and focusing on mobile.

I dunno, I just find the idea of a cross-platform that still has the usability of a handheld really appealing and forward-thinking. I just hope whatever comes of it is executed well.

Publishers have no obligations to save failing consoles, especially at the cost of profitability. Your argument would work with every failing software ecosystem in existence, but there's little purpose outside of western focused products.
