In the press conference of Sony Expo 2014, which is hosted by Sony China in Shanghai on October 24th,
Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, has officially announced that PlayStation is coming to China.

Sony Expo is located in the central park of Shanghai Xintiandi, which is 5 minutes walking from Sony China's Shanghai office.
The press conference of Sony Expo on 24th is press only, while the whole event is open to public on 25th and 26th.
There are quite a lot of upcoming and new Sony products for people to try on, including PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
And this is the third time for Sony Computer Entertainment to show PlayStation products to the public in China mainland in 2014, after CCG Expo and Chinajoy in July.

In the opening video, PlayStation 4 showed up with LittleBigPlanet、Destiny and Driveclub.
Then Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Group, walked onto the stage for Sony Expo’s opening keynote.
According to the speak, China, together with United States and Japan, are now the three largest markets for Sony group.

After several announcements from Sony, Kaz Hirai introduced Andrew House to talk about PlayStation.
Andrew said, PlayStation 4 has reached 10 million in August, and is the fastest selling PlayStation product in the history.
Sony Computer Entertainment is preparing to bring the most unique PlayStation interactive experience into China, and welcomes more talented game developers in China to join PlayStation.
However, more details for the launch plan is going to be revealed later.

(Though Shanghai Oriental Pearil announced their partnership with Sony to bring PlayStation into China in May, Sony or Sony Computer Entertainment hadn't confirmed or denied anything to the public at that time.
So this is the first time for Sony and SCE to announce PlayStation is coming to China officially.)

I posted this, because I thought some people here would like to know what's really happening in China. Though some English medias might have some reports, but they still don't know China anyway. Moreover, some of them are quoting the wrong sources and believe the unreliable information, which somehow could mislead readers.
I'd like to share more about China, if people like to know more. Forgive me for some mistakes in writing, will try to fix them : D

The family grows^^ China is huge with such a diverse offering of peoples and interests that even though know it won't be "100 million seller" I am glad that those who do want to partake in video games in this fashion will finally get to do so (well, legally)^^ Will they get their own region for PSN and support, or are they rolled up in "Asia" like we are?

CRPGs are mostly horrible horrible free to play MMOs. China don't seem to produce anything else besides those. There are a couple of Crpgs that look alright but having not played them before I can't really say much.
My expectations are pretty low.

I remain curious to see how well each console ultimately performs "officially" in China.

The platform for film in China is practically no different from the rest of the world, which is the cinema listing/screening model. As more and more cinemas open in China, more and more films are accessible to the Chinese audience, and the gap between western/chinese release closes, there was never any doubt that Hollywood would find success in China.

However, consoles require a buy-in into a separate platform altogether, which is a major challenge on its own, considering the behemoth that is PC-gaming and mobile. Furthermore, the common business model for gaming in China is still via stuff like F2P and time-cards, and packaged goods,etc for gaming isn't very common, though it definitely exist.

Did you know that we don't even have Second Chapter of Legend of Heroes while China already have nearly most of them? I bet the niche there is bigger than Falcom main audience in Japan.

It'll be a tough one. Each game for the platform is gone through systematically by a body of which I don't know the name of. For example, when Microsoft was gearing up to launch the Xbox One there, the body that oversaw the translation of games didn't like a lot of the descriptive text entries for the animals in Zoo Tycoon, so wanted them rewritten. It was supposedly like pulling teeth, so I can understand why there's so few games on the Xbox China Marketplace. The same will probably end up being the case for PS4 as well.

When I think of a existing game concept that could work as an amazing Journey to the West, it's... FFXV.

RPG
All-male roadtrip
Linear journey, but vast world for exploration
Fast-paced combat system where there's one guy who's significantly more able than the rest of the team

I mean, Platinum would be a great choice for the few parts of the novel/story where Sun Wukong was practically Kratos or fighting against high-class demons, but a larger part is really the 'journey.'
