In time for Halloween, you can scream on Steam – free (!!) – through three chapters of The Evil Within!

Starting October 30th, you’ll be able to enjoy the first three chapters for free. If you choose to purchase the game after the first three chapters, you’ll be able to continue your save progress, and as an added bonus, we’ll throw more evil your way with a free copy of Call of Cthulhu. Finally, and for a limited time only, we offering 50% off The Evil Within’s Season Pass!

Already purchased The Evil Within and its Season Pass? Fear not. Those that already have the main game will have Cthulhu added to your library, and purchasers of the Season Pass will receive special offers on other Bethesda titles.

Didn't see that coming but great news. Just popped up on my steam notifications, lock if old/duplicate.

Good news. Highly worried about how well this plays/performs after the reviews. Guess I may as well check out the demo. I guess the weird aspect ratio fix should work for this too so I can see how well it works?

Well, the first three chapters as a demo is...uh, not the slice I would have used.

I think the first 3 chapters are some of the strongest in the game, 3 is the perfect chapter to let people know if the game is for them or not.

Cthulu? PC? Free?

Sign me up.

EDIT: Wait, is it retroactive? I already have Evil Within on Steam and was waiting for new video card to arrive.

Oh cool, I'm getting my free game then.

Still not sold on the Season Pass yet but the game is fun, a bit rough because of awful performance though.

Do it... The PC version runs at 14 FPS on my two year old computer... You need to test drive the game before buying it... Badly optimised console port.

I doubt that any of my computers could run it decently even on the lowest settings (or maybe even start it up at all?), but I'll give it a try, anyway!

A developer who remembers that demos exist.

That's nice. I was interested in Evil Within but was on the fence. The demo will let me sort my thoughts.

This would be a better demo if was just Ch 3, even though people won't be over-tutorialized about stealth and ammo scarcity.

I guess it's hard to know whether more people would be turned off by being dropped into a good chapter with inadequate knowledge, or by being forced to suffer through the non-interactivity of Ch 1 and the gentle ramp-up of Ch 2. If people turn it off before Ch 3, I can't see it being very effective as a demo.

In any case, gonna take advantage of this demo to see how it runs.

So I haven't played the demo yet, but if my PC is able to handle the demo well, do you think later parts of the game will hold up, as well?

Forced lol, it sets the game up and introduces you to stealth/bottles/hiding. Chapter 1 gets bashed too much just because you aren't allowed to sprint for 5-10 minutes.

Could have done that in 2 minutes. Instead you slow-walk through hallways where nothing happens for what feels like quite a while. Lame game design, no matter who came up with it.

And yes, forced, because you have to play it to get to the good part of the game, do you not?
