To summarize, in his answer to Question 11, Iwata expresses plans to release an app on smart devices that utilizes Miis in some way next year. Originally, they'd intended to have it out sooner (this year) but the ideas they had grew as they developed it and would rather fully realize and polish the app and release it next year than race to put it out this calendar year and release a half-baked product. Basically, he says they want to get it right as it's their first time and hope reach as many consumers as possible. For him, it's not necessarily about 'doing business' on these smart devices, but strengthening the connection between the company and consumers.

Further, Iwata acknowledges that it's embarrassing that the Japanese homepage for Nintendo doesn't yet have a mobile version, but plans to rectify the issue before the end of the year.

Should have applied that to the development of the Wii U.

I can see this being cool if your Miis were customizable and interchangeable with WiiU and 3ds, if not, well what's the point Nintendo?

I can imagine that this app will somehow also connect to their QoL product(s).

I think Miis have a huge potential on smart devices. A smaller version of Tomodachi Life for iOS could become insanely popular, for example. I'm not one of those people who keep begging for Pokemon, Mario, and other major Nintendo IP games on iOS (please no) but I do support the idea of releasing games centered around Miis on mobile platforms.

Your phone as a street pass relay would be cool for users but doesn't solve the business goal of making people carry around the console

If they wanted people to carry the 3DS around, they should have made the system less clunky and more attractive to look at so the average consumer wouldn't feel embarrassed to be seen using one in public. Anyways, it could be as simple as limiting the functionality you get through a Streetpass on your smartphone versus one on a dedicated Nintendo handheld.

Maybe a smartphone Streetpass could give you some basic info on the other person's Mii, and tagging them again with your handheld would unlock their full profile. Just throwing some ideas out there.

StreetPass and Play Coins are designed to make you carry your 3DS with you at all times. That's the entire point.

AFAIK, all of NOA's websites have a mobile version nowadays.

Maybe you've been a little harsh but this. True adults don't give a crap about other people opinions. I've played my Vita on the train and bus and I don't care if people think it's weird.

And it feels awesome when you see one of the 5 other guys that have a Vita in your city lol. Will surely bring my New 3DS when I get it next year.

I really think the streetpass games could be a success on smart devices, I don't know if it's possible to implement a streetpass-like function on them but Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) beacons/iBeacons could be used the same way as streetpass relays.

They should merge the Mii app with the Miiverse web app before releasing it. To me that just makes sense.

And allowing Miis to where different costumes would be nice. I loved that about the avatars on the 360.

From what he said last year it's going to be an app that you'll want to open every day, so I imagine it'll be a gaming focused social network (probably built on top of MiiVerse), with games and other stuff in addition to the Nintendo marketing material that you'd expect. I'm kind of looking forward to it.

Adding in StreetPass and the StreetPass games would be a good idea too.

I'm mildly optimistic about whatever this app will be. We've been hearing about some kind of "Nintendo App" for ages now. But most likely it will be terribly underwhelming.

I look forward to it. I still enjoy making realistic Miis -- I've got a website to showcase them even, at MiisByAndy.com -- so I'm hoping this app includes the Mii Maker software, and a way to generate QR codes, or even better, a way to let you automatically upload them to a Wii U or 3DS.

Heh. If you believe that "real" adults don't pay attention to that kind of thing, then you're very naive. It may not matter to game enthusiasts like you or me, but the average consumer does care about how a piece of portable tech will make them look in public. Portable electronics have become status symbols/fashion statements and smartphones and tablets have greatly raised the bar on what kind of designs are socially acceptable (for lack of a better word).

If Nintendo wants the mass market to start carrying their handhelds around again, they'll have to design something that looks aesthetically on par with a modern tablet or smartphone.

Are we even getting a dedicated Miiverse app? I feel like they talked about it when the Wii U first launched, but they might've just referred to the mobile browser version.
