Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

Hipfire accuracy is almost certainly worse now because that's the only reason to implement ADS in the first place. It's a way of forcing the player to choose between mobility and accuracy.

This is the point - people aren't complaining due to some aesthetic choice (although for me it actually is, I hate ADS as it covers too much stuff, I like being able to see my surroundings). You can still have hip fire have variable accuracy simply based on speed of movement.

ADS means hipfire will be almost useless in a competitive MP match. It risks making Halo 5 not feel like Halo.

Everything must stay exactly the same, forever. Sickening.

It's actually the complete opposite. I want Halo to stay different, and unique to what makes halo, halo. I don't want it to be the same as every other FPS.

pip pip cheerio you slags!
If it's just a cosmetic replacement for the full zoom in I think that'd probably be fine, but if it's a proper ADS, and it's on all guns, then that is terrible.

I have very little faith in 343 after how Halo Anniversary and Halo 4 turned out and hoped they would learn from prior mistakes, but ADS is something I detest and it would be the death of the Halo series for me and shows they still don't get why Halo fans like Halo.
What was wrong with those two? I only played 4 but really enjoyed that. Also anniversary looked cool single player wise.

That was definitely 4's biggest problem, but if they really did implement ADS (and it's not just a cosmetic thing), then this could be just as bad.

The problem with ADS in games that use it is that players die so quickly.

In Halo, your shield lasts pretty damn long for you to take some shots.

We'll see how it plays out.

From the little moments of it, instead of zoom, it's ADS?

Some franchises are good, and maybe even better for not going with the wood grain, though. Look at games like Left 4 dead. I cant imagine that game with ADS. Im not sure why. It just FEELS better.

Im not against ADS by any means, but it doesnt belong in every shooter for design reasons.

I can see it certainly adds to a games character, and as a result can make that game feel unique in a way, for doing so. But in each case where a game doesn't allow this, such as CS or L4D, none of us have played it with ADS being allowed, and so can't really attest to it damaging the game for it. We can see the mechanic in other games and how it can be useful to the player, and adds a further depth to it.

I think the issue here is more a case of identity being altered, than a mechanic damaging play. And to that I think people should wait and see how it plays out first, as others have said, the inclusion could well improve the game as it has done for other shooters.

Halo combat, evolved?

I don't see the problem with incorporating new gameplay mechanics and features. Why should things remain stagnant?

Halo 4 did excellent with those perks, weapon streaks, and weapon drops. Love that non stagnant gameplay.

And I guess Bungie made the exact same game from Halo 1-3. So stagnant.

New gameplay mechanics should complement what makes the game so great. Again, We should wait until we see more footage. But it's easy to see why some fans are upset.

It's almost like Microsoft and 343 are stuck in this negative feedback loop that repeats ad infinitum.

  • Halo 4 had terrible performance numbers over time due to game design changes.
  • Assuredly had DLC sales that were below expectations due to the above.
  • Radically change game design to try to bring in more players.
  • Halo 5 will have terrible performance numbers over time due to game design changes.
  • Assuredly will have bad DLC sales due to above.
  • Halo 6 will have...

Anyone stop and think that if they are truly adding ADS across the board with all the weapons that there will still be "classic" Halo playlists where there is no ADS? That way you give people a choice as to how they want to play.

That's what I'm really hoping for. If there is then I'm fine with the new multiplayer stuff as long as it's in separate playlist.

People hate everything these days.

2 seconds blurry video = let's bomb 343 and kill devs.
Add one mechanic I don't care for = let's bomb 343 and kill devs.
Don't give me exactly what I want = let's bomb 343 and kill devs.

Hey, there's a double jump in my platformer = crap.
There's dual wielding in my fps = shit.
There's nitro in my racer = dead.

Everything must stay exactly the same, forever. Sickening.
You'd have an excellent point if people were saying they should bomb 343 and kill devs.

So you'd rather the game became more like almost every other modern shooter instead of retaining its identity?

If adding ADS makes Halo like every other game, that doesn't speak well to the franchise. Maybe there are areas where the game is very different from other shooters.

Please, point to the post that says we should bomb 343 and kill devs.

Well 99% of all "Beta's" last-gen also released in the same month the final game was coming out. The only games that did a Beta early enough last-gen that I can remember were Shadowrun and Gears of War 3 on Xbox 360. Gears of War 3 really benefited from the early Beta, the addition to Trenches and Thrashball were desperately needed.

The Halo 5 beta is supposed to be this december, which sounds like it's an actual beta.

Why is sprinting a bad thing? o_O

Aim down sights (for certain weapons)?
Is it it's similarity to other shooters?

I'm not a Halo fan and I watched the video before reading any comments and immediately knew what the problem was.

As an Arena FPS fan, I feel for you guys. I really do.

Stinkles, Do you have a fire hose to put out this fire?

I don't even know what to say, I'm just going to ignore EVERYTHING about H5 till they show proper footage. I am simply shocked. Because I love Halo so much, and I know Frankie admitted to the mistakes in H4, that I will give them a chance to explain it all.

I just hope the ADS is a style effect, instead of the whole screen going black with the scope, they made it look like this.

I don't know how to feel about sprint... Whatever I don't care, I'll wait till they show us some info.

They should look at how people play the MCC. Halo 2 will obviously have the most usage. But I'd bet both Halo 1 and 3 will get more usage than 4 by a sizable margin. That should tell them something.

It's worth noting as well that on top of being a garbage way to appease bad players, it also entirely changes the pace of the combat. Early Halo titles had an amazing ebb and flow to the combat, where every engagement was tense. Now you have an entire stutter-stop flow, one where some are stopping/slowing for ironsights, and others are engaging sprint to get out of dodge. It becomes an entirely different and decidedly non-Halo experience.

Seriously. Just watching the MCC invitational tournament on Twitch is reminding players of the glory that was Halo. So good.

Shit like this just changes the whole damn flow and dynamic of the game. These things have no reason being in a Halo game EVER.

Has Stinkles retired from GAF or just busy on launch and tournement stuff ?

I never thought they would remove sprint but ADS, that's surprising. Do they have a "we can do it this time" but didn't understand why it failed last time attitude, time will tell.

While the game might be stop start, some players might just go with the flow of old Halo and the abilities could keep the pace up, just speculating. Full reveal on Monday anyway, carange is going to be something else.

Nice, I finally might enjoy playing a Halo game with a gamepad now.

I mean, goddammit 343, won't you ever learn.

I approve.
