Halo 5 beta clips leak (sprint, ADS is *not* COD-style) (more clips and info added)

Well I'm all in for a new formula but I dunno if this is the way to do it. But Halo does need something new to keep up in sales and popularity.

If adding ADS makes Halo like every other game, that doesn't speak well to the franchise. Maybe there are areas where the game is very different from other shooters.

It's the core of the gameplay.

It's not difficult to understand how much the ads mechanic changes the feel of combat.

I'm okay with this move. They're moving the game into new territory with this. And it's not typical Halo, but they're adding it and that's that.

Will be curious to see how the overall gameplay flow will look like. Regardless, it will probably be a fun game.

Okay so everyone's assuming hipfire accuracy has gone down the shitter? Because if that's not the case, the hate is still unjustified.

And what's wrong with sprint?

Honest questions here. I've never played Halo but I understand the mechanics it had.

It's a game design choice. It makes combat scenarios vastly different. What's the point of having ADS if hip firing is exactly the same? No one would use the former since you have to slow to a crawl to be able to hit anything.
No ADS in arena shooters mean the gameplay is always super fluid and frenetic. Counter-Strike - (even though it is more slower paced), Quake Live, and the new Unreal Tournament game would be ruined if they incorporated it, along with a sprint mechanic that doesn't allow you to shoot. It totally negates the need for skill.

I've already given them the benefit of the doubt with Halo 4 and that turned out to be disappointing. I'm not so sure they fully understand what the Halo fanbase wants.

Maybe the ADS is only a new look for the pistol/BR zoom and it's just as accurate when fired from the hip? ehh at least we have mcc if the multiplayer turns out to be a dud

now guys really how you aim a needler? LOOL. think of the shitstorm if they cut covenant weapons for STORY REASON and replaced them with uninspired ADS friendly Promethean guns. do it do it do it.

It's really tiring when people who aren't actually fans of the game just stop by to post "lol you guys dont like change, welcome to 2014" after we went through the same exact shit in 2012 with Halo 4. Changing a mechanic that is fundamental to how the game plays, progresses, etc is a big fucking deal. People liked Halo because of it's pace, map flow, and weapon control. Halo 4 already threw most of that out the window with shit like Sprint (completely ruins map control and flow), instant respawn (constantly populating the map with bodies) and randomized weapon drops. At that point Halo 4 played exactly like Call Of Duty. It doesn't matter if there were "options" because the vanilla game no longer represented the series it came from. ADS once again will change encounters and the flow of the game that made Halo something people actually enjoyed. Halo 3 was unique versus a game like Call of Duty 4. Now apparently everyone wants every shooter to be exactly the same, just fast kill times, instant spawn, and repeat.

It's almost like Microsoft and 343 are stuck in this negative feedback loop that repeats ad infinitum.

  • Halo 4 had terrible performance numbers over time due to game design changes.
  • Assuredly had DLC sales that were below expectations due to the above.
  • Radically change game design to try to bring in more players.
  • Halo 5 will have terrible performance numbers over time due to game design changes.
  • Assuredly will have bad DLC sales due to above.
  • Halo 6 will have...

It's even worse when you consider 343 is "listening" to feedback and then go ahead and take a shit on fans anyway. It's the most tone-deaf thing I've seen in quite a while.

Damn this thread is escalating quickly. Who the fuck was 343i listening to when they said, "We heard your feedback!"

I'm still going to wait for their explanation on this shit.

I liked Halo 4 and nothing in that video horribly offended me. ADS for me is really no different then using the pistol or br from Halo 1 and 2 and sprinting was a great feature in Halo 4 especially with how big some maps are.

For the people who don't understand why this is a problem:

Ironsights/ADS typically increase accuracy at the expense of movement speed.

Sprint lets you move at full speed but you cannot fire while you do that.

Unless they're completely superfluous mechanics where the sights don't increase accuracy at all, this system usually makes firing from the hip significantly less viable and discourages trying to move and shoot at the same time. People get to a point where they're either just sprinting or staying in one spot and shooting. There are a lot of people who do not want that from this series, because they find that less exciting and challenging.

It took me until this thread to learn that ADS stands for "aiming down sights."

The direction that Halo 4 went in wasn't really satisfying for me, and I know it wasn't popular with a lot of other fans either. It's odd to condemn an entire game over a few seconds of footage but this certainly isn't encouraging.

To be fair to 343, the slide arguably started with Reach, which I still enjoyed.

Question:

Are 13 months enough time to remove ADS and sprint? Or is it way too late to change Anything? They can't just flip the switch, right?

That was for the MCC, and before people knew they literally shot Halo fans in the back with ADS.

they actually aimed down the sights just to shoot the fans in the back. couldn't even give us a hipfire shot like the good ol days

shit is so vulgar

I can live by sprint, I just its less H4 than before. PPPLEEEEASE I don't want this to happen, I'll probably play it either way but DONT FUCK IT UP 343. I'm officially retiring from this thread, I'll let them explain themselves.

The problem with ADS in games that use it is that players die so quickly.

In Halo, your shield lasts pretty damn long for you to take some shots.

We'll see how it plays out.

From the little moments of it, instead of zoom, it's ADS?

That's true, so possibly lower kill times as well otherwise ADS would be frustrating and pretty pointless. Oh dear but lets wait and see.

The question is if the ADS is only on the battle rifle/Dmr, if it isn't then the complaints are necessary.
Even if only BR or DMR. It doesn't belong in Halo.

If they want to create COD or destiny that those games already have their own fans.

Let halo be halo for crying out loud.

Has Stinkles retired from GAF or just busy on launch and tournement stuff ?

I never thought they would remove sprint but ADS, that's surprising. Do they have a "we can do it this time" but didn't understand why it failed last time attitude, time will tell.

While the game might be stop start, some players might just go with the flow of old Halo and the abilities could keep the pace up, just speculating. Full reveal on Monday anyway, carange is going to be something else.

He let himself get banned to focus on the MCC launch. There's some 343 folks on here, but until they react, we don't know anything.

As for me, I'm holding off judgment until tomorrow. If the ADS is purely a way to visualize zooming in and doesn't make aiming more precise or fuck with the movement we've grown accustomed to, then I can deal with it. It might just be for this weapon.

If they're going full-blown CoD, then they can fuck right off.

The maps were big because of sprint.

The maps were big because sprint, we only had 2 small maps in the game because sprint changed map design and flow.
