Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

Sprint is one of those things that influences the entire design of the game. I would be shocked - absolutely floored - if it was removed at this stage in Halo 5's development. At the very least they would have to make all their maps smaller.

Increase the base movement speed then, idk. Sprint ruins Halo, it's been proved time and time again, but I'm curious to see how 343 will explain it tomorrow.

Decrease it to compensate for sprint and we're back in 2012 and Halo will be decimated by CoD again. #wedead

Saw this posted on beyond and I couldn't agree more:
I want to promote nerfing Sprint. I don't want a copy/paste Halo 4 experience.
Having it removed would be nice instead. But at this stage removing it would be sorta a calamity in scheduling to come.

increase in base movement will not solve anything to replace Sprint completely.
If it did, wouldn't devs favor it instead back then? this is getting pointless for discussion.

Lenox did an amazing job listening to feedback on the tournament, that guy needs a raise.

I'm surprised he works at 343 since he listened to feedback

I would argue that sprint alone is not enough to ruin Halo. It makes it worse that it would otherwise be, but "ruin" is frankly ridiculous.

I don't like it either I'm just saying it's not like ordnance drops that could be turned off and not really affect anything else.

Very curious
and excited
for tomorrow night's news.

Keep watching. You may or may not like it, but don't make assumptions yet. Tomorrow will show off a lot of Beta functionality but it will also properly contextualize it.
Why is there ADS in Halo?

Hah, of course not. It will be in.
Sprint is not being removed.

If you just confirm ADS isn't in Halo 5, the world will be calm. Nuclear warfare will not commence.
It's as simple as this.

Are you in this room?
Oddly enough, I find Bonnie Ross very attractive but I imagine not if she was screaming at me. "coughs" Now, please respond on ADS.

basically nerfed to compensate for TP movement features.

If 343 can pull off a classic playlist at launch & toggle features that would be amazing.
Agreed. That's what I've been hoping they would do. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
Or at the very least find out some of it. I wonder if the ledge grab and wall running will be a thing...

I don't think wallrunning was ever rumored, was it? Ledge grab, yes, double jump, yes, but I think the wallrunning thing is just something people sourced from Titanfall.

Either way, I'm curious as well. The snippets of gameplay actually look quite good, setting aside sprint and the specter of ADS.

I know i'm late, and I know ADS is functionally the same in 5 as scoping in, but i'm still flabbergasted. For the record, I love halo, absolutely love it. I didn't even mind Halo 4, because I felt when 343 said "we've learned from Halo 4" they were, and probably still are, telling the truth.

ADS is the one, and only complete breaker for me, for a couple of reasons,

1, and most importantly, it's a blatant visual queue that Halo is still looking towards other FPS' for inspiration, instead of being developed on its on merits. Halo, to me, has never played in a way that I think accomodates it.

2, they're shitting over the rules of their established universe, seeing as Spartans specifically don't need to do traditional aiming down sights as weapon scopes are connected to their neural laces.

I'll get over it in time, but holy shit what a shock that was.

I wonder whether the Locke / Master Chief playtime split will be more like Snake/Raiden in MGS2 or MC/Arby in H2. I know shinobi602 said the former, but the source sounded vague and the game is more than a year out, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt.

Would you be disappointed if MC had less playtime, or do you feel that there is more to the Halo universe that merits exploration than MC's story? I think I'd be happy either way since MC was originally intended to be more of a vehicle for the player rather than a character himself.

After all that investment into the Chief in Halo 4 I doubt they'd sideline him MGS2 style.

I can see a 60/40 Locke/Chief split but I highly doubt that they'd do a 90/10 split.

The primary issues with Halo 4's campaign were its over reliance on the novels (i.e. lack of self sufficiency which was not helped by its short length) as well as its relatively tedious level design. The latter was probably a technical limitation of the 360 so it remains to be seen how Halo 5 will deal with it.

The former is still worrying. At this point I'm more worried about Nightfall than Halo 5.

As I said many pages earlier, the addition of Locke allows for a lot more creative freedom but pulling off another Halo 2 will be very difficult. One character overshadowing the other is a legitimate concern.

Welp, just got home from being on a 24 mega-date without internet.
It was awesome.

Holy shit at the Halo 5 leak. ADS is so disappointing. Even if it's purely cosmetic it'll still clutter up the screen. Otherwise, I could see it working fine... But it just feels so wrong. Ugh.

Just saw that the thread title in the first post has been updated to a quote of mine. I dig it.

Also, I go away for a weekend and come back to this nonsense. Don't even know where to start. I'm not even that upset about the sprint and aim down sights stuff, just disappointed. Guess I knew it was coming and knew not to expect better.

What really irks me is how we get fed this diatribe of "we learned from our mistakes" and "we care about the fans" and so on and then we see features that would pretty universally decried added into the game. We're told the games are going to be exactly as they shipped, but we can't get an answer about if it's Halo PC or not, and now we find out that the issues from Halo PC are back. We're told that the exact Halo 2 ranking system is back, but now we find out that it's actually a newly built system and we only get one ranked playlist while they work the kinks out.

It's disheartening, to say the least. All this piecemeal information, lack of transparency, etc. has just gotten old.

As for the sprint and aim down the sights stuff, Frankie says wait to judge and to wait for context and play it yourself. Fine. But that's nearly the exact thing we were told about Halo 4, and we all saw from playing it that it didn't work any better.

I don't know, man. I'm just bummed. I miss being truly excited and enthusiastic for the franchise.

Crossposting from the MCC OT.

I'm working on a map in Forge that I think is going to be pretty rad. It's a 2-4 v 2-4 Symmetrical Slayer Map with many points of entry and routes. I think it could be good for CTF. Just gotta work on spawns (player and weapon)

Also, Forge in H2A is amazing. Can't wait to see what talented people do with it. This took me about two hours of dicking around while waiting for something to render.

Heh just thinking about how interesting it would have been to have the ads reveal be in front of a live crowd at a pax panel like event.

Wonde what the audience reaction woulda been like.

vin do you have the game? lol where are you getting these from

Beyond!

You'll notice from the first leaked video of the day, the BR reticule changes to what you see above, indicating your "lunge" reticule or "sprint" reticule most likely showing you when you can perform a lunge (w/ sword) or the thruster melee we saw in the E3 CG beta trailer (sprint required for it?).

Also, motion tracker shows elevation again :(

w/ sprint that's an awful combo.
