Assassin's Creed: Unity microtransaction currency prices revealed ($9.99 to $99.99)

well not really...yet
So what's the deal with this companion app?

Is it just a way to throw advertisements at you? Get you to buy stuff?

Talk about a game breaking moment. Oh I climbed out of the way to get this chest! Hopefully I get something good!

"Please download our app to receive the treasure inside"

Fuuuuuuu!
The app is for the Assassins mini game, think Kenway's fleet, Brotherhood missions etc. Its loaded into an app rather than built into a game.

It actually works better that way. I only ever did Kenway's fleet from the app rather than in game. And just like in AC4, there are rewards for completing the missions. Literally nothing about this is new.

Welp there goes me ever buying any of your games again, Ubi. Glad I skipped this one when I went to Target on my lunch just now for the B2G1 deal.

I lterally feel sick to my stomach. I might just be hungry for lunch though. Still this stuff is gross!

How about not giving them any money? Could we rally around that instead?

I think if Rogue is a solid game that performs well and isn't littered with crap like this, that favoring that one and showing more support for it instead of the one that is full of technical problems and the bullshit we're going over in this thread would be fine.

Now, if Rogue is the same way, then yeah, fuck that too. But if Rogue isn't guilty of this stuff, I'm all for supporting that one, at least more so than Unity.

The cost model of aaa gaming is unsustainable so they do this. I can't wait for the industry to collapse on itself.
Its sad to wish failure for the hobby you love but the gamning industry needs a massive wake up call. These companies have lost touch with what gaming is all about and just see it as a way to further increase their pockets with money.

Between formula malaise and the distasteful details that have started to come out about Unity, I'm good skipping this one (and I've played them all). Shame, always thought AC in Paris would be interesting but this is not a game or business model I want to support with my money.

This game is like a melting pot of awful practices in the industry. Been a really poor year for Ubi in terms of public relations and critical reception.

So I've been playing the game + using the companion app and I use it when I'm not playing the main game. It's all timers and mini-puzzles, and easy to just queue up some missions in the app and put it down. It's VERY similar to the black flag companion app, which was fantastic. There are heat maps (which are interesting, but kind of useless) and it can connect to your game while you are playing and it'll keep track of where you are at and you can use it as an off-screen map. Nothing (AFAIK) in the chests you unlock are at all necessary to play the main game.

The hobby doesn't die with these companies. "AAA" gaming can go jump off a cliff. There are plenty of devs out there that don't base their game design on exploiting addictive behaviors.

It's really sad to see what Ubisoft has become.

Annualizing a franchise to hell and back is already a bit much.
Poor performance is not unheard of. It's unacceptable, but it's sort of understandable.
Macro transactions? Jesus Christmas.

The culmination of all of these combined with the horrible PR and late review embargo surrounding this game and you've got a really bad shit storm.

Indeed. This is the kind of thing to conjure a storm over. I can deal with technical problems in games that are otherwise pretty enjoyable. But this shit in a $60 game is beyond deplorable.

i don't see why it can't be both. if i'm to spend my $60 i don't want to be nickeled and dimed, nor do i want to be given an unoptimized product

IAP in a $60 game? Hey Ubi...

Well this is the pleasant cherry on top. Way to make it really easy to decide whether to buy a bunch of 2+1 games at Target this year.

Will pre-order Dragon Age and get a bunch of other good games on Black Friday.

I'm past the point of outrage over this. It's starting to become comical just to see how Ubisoft manage to top themselves in awfulness as time goes by. Morbidly curious to see what they'll do next lol.

The game will still sell tons. A very small # of people will spend a ton of money on these microtransactions making it very profitable. Ubisoft will continue to release annual Assassins Creed games of questionable quality and morality. Most of GAF will be outraged.
The majority of GAFers will still buy their games, even the complainers
And the world will keep spinning.

Thanks! I wasn't familiar with it. I haven't played an Assassin's Creed game in a few years.

We got Shadow of Mordor and the full version of Lethal League, though, so it wasn't a total loss.

But yeah. Between all the games that got overhyped and the Gamergate insanity, this year has been kind of shit. :/

Yup, thank god for Mordor. Everyone should buy it instead of Ubicrap.

LOL at locking in-game content to force people to download a crappy app. I will never buy a Ubisoft game until it is less than 10$ from now on; or until there is a hardware that can run their games at 60fps.

And **** Uplay.
