Media Create Sales: Week 44, 2014 (Oct 27 - Nov 02)

Really? For me it looks like a holiday special, meant to be available during the holidays (not one of the usual LE that sells out in a matter of days/weeks). I would have been surprised to see it sell out during the first week-end, especially since there's nothing really out of the ordinary with this LE.

Curious to see the impact it'll have on sales, especially without any major release that week.

I thought this edition was going to be more limited. Since it's fully available we have to pay attention in next week's numbers.

Next week numbers will be very telling about New 3DS status. I was expecting to see sold out signs for N3DS XL Smash Bros Edition, but it's still in stock at every shop.
It seems Nintendo shipped a good amount of copies, then.

If it was such a limited print Nintendo wouldn't bother with this late release. They won't ship it forever but it will last for a period. It's supposed to give an extra motive to current Smash owners to update to New LL.

They're great!

New 3DS status will be very telling in the first half of 2015, imo.
Yeah, mid-late January and February is where any effect from the holidays has generally worn off and helps set the tone for the rest of the year barring some major game changing action which doesn't seem to be coming in the first half of the year.

So DQH being the first title to sell more than 136k units, and breaking the 200k mark, the 300k mark, the 400k mark and even the 500k mark? I hope it will happen.

bloodborne will be the first game selling 200k I think
Dqh could have a more ps3 oriented balance, but the total could reach the million mark, considering OP and Ken's sales imho
LOL at the sarcastic hope

Chris1964

Sales-Age Genius
For DQH I've given my prediction before and I won't start again with the same argument again but things are very simple:

Like previous PS3/PSP, PS3/PSV and PSP/PSV releases the issue is the same. If DQH would sell 800-900k as a PS3 exclusive it has a chance to sell 1m as a PS3/PS4 release.

Looking at predictions from YSO things don't look very hot for next week's WE2015 and COD:AW, if someone expects rise at total sales because of PS4.

How will Media Create count the DQH numbers anyway, since all bundle sales from Christmas will all be digital versions of the game.

IIRC Media Create counts bundles as game sales. Will DQH have a LTD starting in December?

surreal that ps4 is still not at one million. slowest ps to reach 1 million right? what is the previous slowest?
That would be Vita which I believe took just under a full year to get there. PS4's tracking quite a bit behind it but it shouldn't beak the record if it gains some sort if momentum next year.

Comgnet weekend

Pok AS - 668 (+14)
Pok OR - 590 (+16)
YW2.5 - 778 (+114)

the word "insane" is even not enough to describe that :D

Yeah. I would like to point it out the talent of Level-5 in creating such a phenomenon. It is not due to "external" factor, but to Level-5 itself. The game was going to be a 400k-500k sellers without the anime, but the cartoon really helped the sales; Level-5 was good enough to produce an entertaining anime and to surround it with a lot of gadgets.

About Level-5... Do you think they will present some new game in the near future? Since last year, the company has been very YW-centric (and for a good reason). Right now, it makes sense they will invest some money in new IPs or new entries of already established IPs. Level-5 typically had a conference in late Summer / early Autumn to show its line-up. Will they do a similar event this year?

What I expect is more 3DS support, given the success of YW; probably the Ushiro revival, and some new entry for Layton or Inazuma Eleven; and a new home console jRPG in the vein of Ni no Kuni.

There's 41 Amazon reviews for Pokémon ORAS already. It's only three stars. Bomba?
;-)

If I understand the reviews correctly, bad games are caused by people not owning credit cards.

I've never be on the "blaming-side" with L5, but I'm on the fence right now, at the spike of their success.
If they will actually not show other brand new projects I'll blame them.
I mean: they have always done this, investing the money gained from their most successfull IPs (that were "exploited" very much) in new projects (even experiments, sometimes).
If now they will focus only, or too much, into YW, while it's clear that they are still applying their "exploiting" business model to that IP, it will be a huge mistake.
If they will be able, instead, to invest that money into brand new IPs, probably (looking at their past history) they will also be able to find some success (maybe "just" IE or Layotn-level of success) aside some failure.

Best hope for code-monkeying for DQXI.

It would be interesting if they gave Fantasy Life another go.

What has 1-up Studio been doing recently?

Don't know...but it is bizzaree, knowing L5, that they didn't push another episode, considering that it should have sold (in Japan) about 300k (231K + around 60k for the "Link" expansion), and that it seems that it was selling decently in Europe at least (waiting for the US numbers) - I know it's published by N in the West, but I'm pretty sure that they gain royalty on those copies too.

Hino said that Fantasy Life would have become a franchise.

Fantasy Life sold 360k units at retail (290k the original one + 70k the Link expansion).

Wow, Garaph wans't update! Even better I'd say.
I'd see a Fantasy Life 2 (with online multiplayer from the scratch, right?) as a good fit for (N)3DS in 2015 (alongised Rune Factory 5 :p )

1-Up is now solely dedicated to support work for various Nintendo games; they stopped making their own games when they went from Brownie Brown to 1-Up.

It was actually h.a.n.d. who completed the Link! expansion for Fantasy Life. No idea if Brownies, the company created by one of the Brownie Brown co-funder, is working on Fantasy Life 2 or whatnot (no idea what they're working on, period. Haven't heard anything about them since the company was created, and their website isn't really helpful.

They're definitely going to make another FL game, but it's definitely going to take while because the first one was pretty massive, and they know they can't just create a new bunch of monsters/football players for yearly releases. And besides, not sure players would be able to play such massive game every year anyway.

Pretty sure we should hear about the future of Fantasy Life next year... though I'm wondering what happened to the updated "promised" for FL after the Link! edition was released. There was a couple of DLC, but nothing since H2 2013, actually.

Media Create doesn't include bundle with download code in software sales. Famitsu does, so I suppose they will start tracking in december.

Kinda amazing that new PSP games are still being released. Some devs just can't let go.

Also people are pretty dumb to still buy new PSP games on UMD at this point, when they could buy them digital and be forward compatible with the Vita.

One could say that dumb are those who buy digital versions of their games considering that they can get blocked from playing them at any given moment.

Well, what do you know... that F2P Initial D game on the 3DS has been dowloaded 600k times. Once again, no word on how much money they're making, but looks like they're making some money if they're still going at it and people keep downloading the game.

F2P games seem to be successful enough on 3DS to convince publishers to keep developing them.

compare it to whatever Wii U timeframe, and that's impressive.

It is interesting to see how PS Vita is still being something interesting... only in Japan. And how Sony "not Japan" is not interested in Vita.

3DS has not as many f2p games as Vita has, so I don't understand your statement

also, Initial D is a very crappy game, I wonder how many of those 600k people have played it for more than a week

one month ago I wanted to take a look at it after 8 months, but it was already midnight and you can play from 10:00until 22:00 or 23:00... wtfits??
