The more I see it, the more it looks to be the Mario Kart 8 of 2015.

Is there some splitscreen? If so, can you play with Wii remote + nunchuck?

Yes there will be local multiplayer of some sort but they have yet to detail it. We don't know yet if Wiimote + Nunchuk will be a control option.

If there's local multiplayer, wiimote aiming will probably be included, particularly if it's 4p splitscreen.

So far they have only confirmed there will be a 1 v 1 mode locally. Personally though I would be surprised if they didn't have 4P Split screen also though, yeah. This is Nintendo.

Oh ok, but even then, more gamers have the wiimote + nunchuck combo than a pro controller so it would make sense. Pikmin 3 and Nintendoland used this control scheme so I don't see why not.

Yeah, like with 4p local multiplayer it's something I expect will be in the game and just hasn't been announced yet as this is Nintendo. They always support as many control options as possible.

Remember how NoJ posted the 60fps version of the Direct trailer? Well, NoA just did it as well

Slightly OT, but they did the same for the MK8 DLC trailer, the one showed in the Direct

Hopefully, Nintendo will use 60fps videos right when trailers for games supporting 60fps release.

I really like the design of Octo girl.

Oh, my. As daydreaming said, any excuse to watch this trailer again. I really love how this is cut, it's one of my favorite trailers in a long time. Just super compelling and unusual. I'm psyched to see what the SP campaign is like in some more detail. I'm hoping it's a solid little adventure, maybe 10+ hours or more with various built-in or user-created challenges (i.e. no ink runs, etc.).

I love the music in the second trailer. I hope the person who made this awesome cover of the main theme, makes one for the music in the second trailer too.

I'm loving these updates. Very cute and also informative

Don't be so sure about 4 player local. Pikmin 3 only supports 2 player and I suspect this game will as well.

I think the 2nd trailer is great, too. The music is fun, but off-beat. The first time I watched it, it felt like an almost random collection of images, but watching it again (and again and again) it actually seems to methodically show off a lot of the games mechanics, story, and characters, just very quickly. It feels as though it's intentionally designed to reward those who watch it multiple times with more information.

With how Nintendo seems to be pushing this series, I guess it's safe to say we'll be getting a Nintendo Squidirect a few weeks before release.

New Tweet

Report from the Squid Research Lab. This guys name is "Denchinamazu" [Lit: Battery Catfish]. This world appears to run on the energy produced by this catfish. The protagonist enters the Octopus Army Corps base alone in order to return the stolen Denchinamazu.

lolwat. That sounds like a Mega Man boss name. How gloriously odd

Keep in mind the game's heavy focus on pad use to monitor how much territory is covered, see where you're needed, and to tap fellow players to warp to their location. While solutions could be found, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo sees this as an insurmountable problem.

Any local multi is likely to be at least a little different from the online multi.

Well 1 v 1 local is already confirmed, which means they already have a way for one person to not use the pad.

So they enslave electric catfish and treat them as a natural resource? So the Inkling war is over a suppressed species wanting to live on the surface and also a conflict over energy resources?

So dark, so deep, so hidden depth :p

I keep seeing cheese but in keeping with the marine life theme and the fact that it expands when it gets shot with ink, it's probably some type of alien sponge.
