Clarification for those who like to assume:

Titanfall has sold well above expectations, both from to us at Respawn and at EA. I actually don't know if there's been a better new IP release at EA in terms of sales... ever?

EA doesn't release sales numbers anymore. We'd love to release them, but we're not the publisher of the game. This was the best we could do for everyone.

This does not mean 7m sold. This means 7m people have played the game. Yes, this means Destiny and probably Watch Dogs have had more more sales and players. This is not at all surprising, or worthy of shame. Everyone is so supremely proud of the game. More successful than we could have imagined. I could also point out that EA has been on a huge upswing in the market, often attributed partially to how well Titanfall has done.

Alright, thats all I can say. You can go about your normal business of assuming the worst. I've got work to do

It's kind of a bad estimate if it's a game that has 'free trials' given out. Something like that inflates unique player count in hard to measure ways.

7 million unique users? Means EA doesn't want to give out actual sales numbers. Even if the number is as high as 5 or 6 million. Sad that a game can sell millions and publishers want to hide the number.

I am sure the sequel will be a lot more fleshed out. It is a shame that Titanfall had such a thin amount of content; the gameplay is so much fun and brought something new to the table when played in the way it was designed to be.

Exactly. If Respawn could make Titanfall with 60some people, a smallish budget that had to be topped up twice, and a fairly limited amount of productive work time due to all the legal mess, I'm really excited to think about what they could do with a bigger team, a sufficient budget, and a more flexible schedule.

Can't blame them for trying. It's not exactly a bad number to boast about, especially for a new multiplayer only IP.

I love this. Any PC owner that is worried about size constraints. WE HAVE NO SIZE CONSTRAINTS. Memory is so easy (read: cheap) to come by, that it is a really, really pathetic excuse.

I have seen this comment on other game threads too as if the size of a game matters (sure ,it could point to poor optimization). If you do not have 100's of GB's lying around as a PC gamer, you are doing it wrong.

The fact that they still haven't discussed actual sales figures just makes me think that this sold below expectations, but there's no doubt that it's reached a lot of people for a new IP.

Small is a relative term. It's a small community for a game of its ambition but still much better than other FPS games.

MS should make it part of the Games With Gold and give it away in December. Loads of people will be buying the console and its a great way of educating people how good Titanfall actually is. Loads of content for it now and plenty of stuff to do. Would make a good idea for when they start to talk about Titanfall 2.

I would be willing to put down cash that Titanfall 2 will be on Frostbite 3, which is an exciting notion

I'm thinking it's more to do with the fact that it's not a figure that's praise-worthy from all perspectives, both internally and externally.

Competitively, TF figures probably fall quite a fair bit short of the two big new IP launches from EA's immediate competitors, Acti/Destiny and Ubi/WD.

Internally, since TF was touted as being part of EA's rotational pillar FPS franchises pre-launch, Titanfall obviously doesn't have the sales figures strong enough to be placed alongside Battlefield yet. Saying "BF is a 10 million franchise" and "TF is only... say 3-5 million" isn't flattering.
