Could someone just outline exactly what I need to do again if I want to download Pokemon from the Aus Eshop before doing the system transfer? I don't want to risk loosing anything but really fancy a shiny new game to play on my shiny new machine.
I posted this in the old thread:

1. Get your new 3DS, set the country as Australia. DO NOT make an NNID nor transfer your UK account from your old 3DS yet
2. Go to the eShop and purchase OR/AS
3. Once finished, change country to UK
4. Transfer your account from your old 3DS. This will merge your accounts

Doing that you should be able to keep your UK NNID, all your games from your old system AND OR/AS from your new system

ONLY do these exact steps. If you transfer too early you cannot do it. Also bear in mind, that you may not be able to redownload OR/AS from the UK store before the 28th so make sure it doesn't get deleted during the transfer!

1. Do the System Transfer.
2. Transfer Old 3DS SD Card -> Computer
3. Transfer Computer -> New 3DS SD Card
4. Insert New 3DS SD Card
5. If you have an existing game, it is already on your 3DS.
_
If you want to buy a eShop game
6. Go to eShop.
7. Buy your game.

^^^ beaten.

Considering they're explicitly saying there are 2 ways to do the transfer I think it's pretty safe to assume in this case :p

Unless its changed, all the videos I've watched its straight into the transfer with no logical way to do the limited transfer.

Quite a healthy turn out here at my EB Games, a handful of people here for Dragon Age too.

Only 30 minutes to go!

Would it not get deleted anyway? Maybe I'll wait/ go Physical

...can someone clear things up in terms of (Micro) SDHC cards bigger than 32 GB? On the official Nintendo support pages it says that 32 GB is the maximum supported by the (N)N3DS. There are some pages found via Google which describe how to use bigger cards, but that it might be possible to lose some data? That's totally a showstopper for me. I'm digital-only and don't want to risk loosing my precious games and stuff, but I've already filled my 16 GB card and when I have a look on my eShop wishlist then I suppose that even 32 GB won't be sufficient. If 32 GB is the maximum am I forced to swap several SD cards?

Couldn't find any videos demonstrating the process on a New 3DS (It's different to the old process) except one that cut out the first parts of it and only showed once the data started moving. Got any links?
So, for people who have it already how long did it takes for you to do the system transfer?
3 hours+ in most cases via WiFi. Obviously much faster if you do it manually through your computer.

Wait what. It takes that long?

What do you mean by doing it manually on the computer?
Depends on how much data you have on your card. If you're transferring that much data over WiFi (Especially with how slow the connection was on the old models) it's gonna take a long time.

The alternative is just transferring the NNID and licenses for the games and not the data itself. Then dumping the data on your computer and putting it on the new card that way.

Posting this again :p

Well I've deleted all the games I have in my system and stored all my save data to my micro SD card. So I'm only doing a license transfer.

Should I have my micro SD card in my system when I do the transfer or should I take it out first?

Wish I could attend a midnight launch...unfortunately it would cost a small fortune in taxi fares to get back home again at that time of night, so it wouldn't be worth it for me!

Ah well, still, only 12 hours to go. :)

Unfortunately...I got hit by customs. Either way, it's all paid now, and I'll get the console either tomorrow or saturday! YES

That's amazing service if you manage to get it on launch day!

I'm currently "saying goodbye" to my 3DS XL with some rounds of Smash ahead of my transfer tomorrow night

Mighty Ape must've sent it super express, because the packaging on the new 3DS is tiny. It shouldn't have cost $80 or whatever you were charged unless it was the fastest service possible.

OK, before I should do the system transfer is there anything I need to do? I have no downloaded games tied to my account, but I have a new SD card I want to use. I should do that part on my PC, right?

Yeah, the packaging is the same size for the current UK 3DS XL (no charger in that either). And yeah, it's the fastest rate for DHL apparently!

either way, NZ$80 is only £40 for delivery which I think is perfectly acceptable for what's basically a 2 day service from the other side of the world! Even more so when the actual console only cost me £130!

even with the customs charges added on, I'm really not fussed as I sold my original XL to pay for the majority of all of this. Sold it for £120 on ebay!! So far I've spent like, £70 for all of this when including the customs charge - and considering I'm getting this console potentially half a year earlier than anyone else in the west, I'm damn happy with it all

The annoying CLICK sound when you adjust the top screen height is gone with the N3DS! Feels a lot more solid now, even if there is still a little wobble. The feel of the vanilla N3DS reminds me a lot of the DS Lite, and I mean that as the biggest compliment ever.

Stylus is small and too thin though, but I use a full pen sized one anyway.

£30

I was fully expecting it, and being invoiced for it by DHL before it even reached the UK was fantastic. They must calculate it immediately upon dispatch, so that it doesn't delay delivery - unlike the bloody royal mail who wait until its in the local sorting office to tell you, the bastards.

DHL even notified me by leaving a voicemail on my landline phone! amazing.

Estimated delivery on the tracking site is still showing up as Tuesday 25th, but if it's here in Southampton by end of tonight I see no reason why it will take that long. It'll be Friday or Saturday, I bet.

The lowered the brightness of the blue LED at the bottom of the system. It was so annoying at night. But they also lowered the Wi-Fi LED down there.

Feels so smooth in comparison, i like that they fixed the hinge it doesn't feel like it's going to break like it did on the regular one.

Is the hinge on the N3DSXL also smoother? The original XL clicks so loud.

I mean, I guess I'll find out for myself in a few hours anyway.

They need to get their stock from Australia first.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooo.................. and to think at one point i had the opportunity to pre-order at mighty-ape...... the site had allowed me to input my UK address and all I had to do was complete the purchase via papypal but then I switched and went with P-A because I wanted some extra stuff from there....... nnnnnnoooooooooooooooooo

New thumb nub thing is weird and not at all what I imagined it would be like, and omg I hate the glossy outer shit - why did they go back to that? :(

Haven't turned it on yet though lol.

If you have a microSD card in an adapter in your OG 3DS/XL, the transfer actually asks you and then says "just remove it from the adapter after system transfer is complete and put it in the New 3DS".

I went hands on with the N3DSXL at PAX and the glossy turned me off it hard. If they release a special edition in the future which isn't gloss I may consider going back to big. I'm liking the return to a smaller screen for now, makes me feel like I've got my old DS Lite back.

C-stick does feel funny.

Its gonna be such a pain in the butt to transfer my old SD card to new micro one, I have to do it through the PC - hope nothing goes wrong. >_<

If you have it squeezed in your pocket then it still has the chance of scratching as the rubber nubs can get squashed meaning the top screen will touch the bottom, if you keep it in a case it will not mark the screen, had mine for weeks now and it's not got a single mark on it although i did install protectors as i do with all my handhelds.

£30 is not bad. Mine is being shipped by FedEx. Wonderful!

Do we know if the Top screen being scratched by the bottom screen surround is solved in the new units?

Someone in the Japan import thread had this to say:

I bought a New 3DS on launch day (white version), and have been enjoying it a lot so far. The lack of a hardware-based wi-fi toggle is a bit of a pain compared to my US XL, but the eye tracking used for 3D has been amazing for me so far. The volume slider can now be "stuck" to zero just like the 3D slider, which is also amazing to avoid accidentally raising the volume while commuting or something.

One bad thing I've noticed so far is that the top screen is getting some marks from the plastic rim from the bottom screen. Luckily, I put a screen protector film on it the day I bought the console, but I'm still placing a small piece of cloth between the screens while I'm not using the console as a safety measure.

How's the screen temperature and contrast compared to an older 3DS model? Warm-yellow or cool-blue?

I don't have an OG 3DS around me, but compared to my new 3DS XL - which I would call cool blue - the white N3DS feels pretty damn clear white. Maybe a tiny bit more yellow but it's a big jump. Contrast seems a little lower but very little difference. Both systems on max brightness.

Volume a little better on the N3DS but I'm disappointed it's not louder. Both through the speakers and headphones.

I also had my doubt about moving from a XL to a Regular one but I really prefer it, and not only for the faceplates.
After 1 month, I really don't regret that I choose a Regular one, and I have difficulties playing on my actual 3DS XL PAL..

I head that regular N3DS have larger screen that the old 3DS, but smaller than 3DSXL, is it true? The old one is too small while XL is too big to fit into my pocket, so if this true I might changed back to regular size.

I'm still undecided as to whether I want the standard one with some nice faceplates or an XL (which I'd wait on a special edition).

I think I'll impulse buy the standard one the first time I'm in a store with it in front of me @___@

Actually, being in a store with them might help if they have demo units of each set up.
