What if dolls were made for standard female body sizes?

Thats what one designer did.

I think the doll is pretty good, it's plain without being boring. But the slogan: "Average is beautiful" warrants a 50centcmonson.gif. Average isn't beautiful, average is average.

We'll the new barbie is proportioned like your average athletic girl. The average girl wouldn't look like that.

Didn't have the balls to ditch the huge eyes, full lips, or long flowing straight hair though.

I'm also thinking that chick is skinnier than the average woman, though I might be wrong.

Lammily is a weird name tbh.

I think the intentions are nice, but I'd be interested to see how kids respond to seeing her vs say the millions of other dolls on a rack at the store. Not just in that isolated video.

I mean sure you give her a normal person's body but you don't have to go out of your way to make her ugly.

Why not super crooked teeth, a broken nose and a scar across her forehead to boot? Everyone's beautiful!

This is good and all but I hate it when people try to discredit Barbie
Does whatever the fuck she wants, becomes whatever the fuck she wants regardless of gender roles and looks good while doing it. I don't see an issue with people looking up to that.

I mean, in that pic alone, we have Barbie the racecar driver, Barbie the scuba diver, Barbie the pilot, Barbie the surgeon... all roles typically not presented as being women's professions. Yes, she presents an unrealistic standard of beauty. But she also presents inspiration to young children who play with these toys and hopefully realise that they shouldn't be limited to any profession because of their gender.

There is no way I would choose to play with that over a Barbie. Why are her clothes so hideous? Barbie made me want to be a cooking astronaut doctor and look good, doing it. Also that is the worst name.

I never had the feeling, that the design of Barbie herself is a problem. She just looks to cartoony, with there strange height, small feet and overall face. Look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNsDD0SCUPk#t=25. No kid thinks, that anything of this represents real life. The problem was always, what she represent: Consumerism, Capitalism, classic gender roles and stereotypes.

All accessible to you... as long as you look like this.

I want to say the doll actually does remind me of an actress, the head and hair reminds me of someone...but can't remember who.

It's almost like the body image issue is just as important as the "how many jobs can Barbie do? all of them!" issue.

Great. Let's make everything ugly so that nobody is offended.

This isn't about being offended, it's about shaping expectations on body image for young girls.

Also the Lamily (awful name) doll isn't ugly and I'm not sure why you think that.
