Oh man, is Square starting to give permission to developers to show whatever they want from their games now?

First Tabata's talk show, now Nomura showing prototypes.

Glorious.

And I need to play DDD soon, I must be missing so much >.>
While I like DDD more than some others and really enjoyed it despite its flaws, I wouldn't say you are missing too much. There are a few cool worlds and it still has the fun combat from BBS (with Pokemon!) and then there's the somewhat unbalanced flowmotion acrobatics, but otherwise it is a bit rushed and a majority of the story happens during the last 2-3+ hours of the game. It's more important than ReCoded & Days, but I don't think it's nearly as important as ReChain of Memories or BBS.

Really? I thought the gameplay was actually really fun. I still prefer BBS's battle system, but DDD is similar, and while somewhat gamebreaking at times, Flowmotion was really fun to use. I did HATE the dreameater bullshit stuff (which is really the only reason why I haven't replayed it yet), though. And the time limit aspect to each character was somewhat annoying as well.

They got rid of forging commands from BBS, they made abilities (outside of a select few) only work if your equipped Dream Eaters have them, Flowmotion gives you a false sense of exploration as the worlds are empty and full of literally nothing, there's huge amount of glitches because I lost count of how many times enemies got stuck floating in the air and (now while not gameplay) the Dream Eater boss music is downright awful.

Don't even get me started on the Drop system.

How does that invalidate the releases? Because they are no longer exclusive? Does the special go away?

Because there's no point in a PS3 release with a PS4 release 6 months later. Like a GOTY edition released 2 weeks after the original edition. For those of us with both a PS3 and a PS4, its really annoying having to make choices like that.

If they were going to make a release, it probably should have only been on next gen.

I actually agree with most of what you said, lol. I still found the game fun to play through to the end, though. Forging commands in BBS was sooo addicting to me. I think making abilities work with dream eaters was what really made me hate that whole system and why I haven't replayed the game yet. The worlds are empty, but that applies to every KH game - I had fun using flowmotion to explore them and find chests. On the other hand, flowmotion made jumping upgrades pointless. I never encountered any glitches that I can recall.

You're really not. Story moves forward a bit but the gameplay is absolute balls.
Eh? The combat is still really fun. It's pretty much like BBS, though a bit more unbalanced. Not enough to make the game as bad as you imply. The Pokemon stuff isn't all that bad once you learn how to be efficient in leveling them up and can minimize the rubbing & mini-game playing. And the whole Drop mechanism is a non-issue given how easy it is to extend either characters' time for as long as you need.

I never really knew how to efficiently level them up. What was the easiest way to do that without rubbing them or doing the minigames?

What I saw from the gameplay it seems to be right up my alley.

I love fights where you have high mobility.

And I was talking about the story.

The pokemon part is the one I don't care much (I take that's optional, like the command board in BBS?).

But even then, I have no idea what's in the story that I'm missing, I know the premise of the game and that's it.

It might be 2 or 3 hours of story, but I really don't want to miss it.

Oh well, if Square doesn't announce a DDD HD for PS4 I'll buy it and play on someone's 3DS.

I thought the Drop system was really creative and a great handshake between gameplay and storytelling.
The only thing I would have changed would be having the game remember the HP of bosses if you Drop during their battles.

Command Melding and Command Styles from BbS were sorely missed, though, and the game seemed to have a relatively low number of Commands and Abilities in general.

All this talk made me want to know the summary of the story of DDD since I don't think I'll grab a 3ds soon.

mmh.. Anyone has a video that summarizes the plot or would bother to PM me the key points. It would be very appreciated!

That was actually a design change made specifically for the international versions. It was as you'd prefer in the Japanese version of the game and it was frustrating as all hell on higher difficulties, especially during some of the not really well designed boss fights.

DDD is a pretty hard game to summarize because the last fifth or so of the game goes completely off the rails plot wise. Like, even moreso than what's normal for the series. It makes KHII's writing look like Planetscape Torment in comparison. You're better off just watching it on Youtube.

Watching the cutscenes is better than letting someone explain it to you.

Wait, how would having the bosses HP be consistent between drops make the game *harder?*

It's the US version where, if you have a boss down to one HP and Drop, when you return to that character the boss has full HP again, right?

The Japanese version had the boss's HP stay where it was left but it was harder?

Not 6 months later, more like a year. And games like TLoU and GTAV did just that.

Whoops, got mixed up reading your post. In the Japanese version, if you returned to a boss fight you dropped from, the boss got it's HP refilled, but the player didn't. The US/EU release filled up the player and the bosses Hp. So, yeah, I more or less agree with you.

It's not really all that different from grinding in other KHs. Try to find rooms/battles with lots of enemies that you can kill fast. Feeding them works as well. Only rub the dream eaters when they are glowing, that gives LP etc. faster and you don't have to be rubbing & poking them constantly. The barrel minigame is also a pretty non-painful way of earning LPs fast, if you don't hate it (I didn't, I think it was somewhat fun...). The best way for me was to mix all these ways up. Fight until that started to feel a bit grindy, then feed them a bit, maybe rub them if they glow, play 2-3 rounds of the barrel minigame, go back to fighting. Rince & repeat.

Still no leaks. Too bad.

Nomura must have hired some of Nintendo's ninjas away from them. Damn, I hope this footage doesn't get lost and buried forever... it's always nice to be able to compare and contrast between early and final builds. Some of the stuff shown in that video might get radically changed or not even exist in the final game if previous KH titles are anything to go by.

Maybe Nomura threatened to delay KH3 by a year for every leaked footage he finds.

I just got back from the event in question. It was a bunch of concept art and some rough animation pieces (New Heartless idle movements/Sora trasnforming a Keyblade into dual guns/canon. Was really rough stuff as it was literally just the models animating on a white background. The part where they had a whole room animated with Sora walking in it was stunning though. Looked really good with curtains flapping in the wind and Sora's hair/clothes being blown by the wind. Visually, it looked phenomenal. Like I don't know why but I was surprised at how good it looked lol.

Did you get to see the "town" mentioned in the OP? Is it really that big?

Did Nomura fly down and give you guys magic pixie dust of happiness?

It certainly looked big. It was weird how it was presented because they showed concept art first then transitioned into what it would look like in the game. It hard to tell the exact scale of the town though because it was sort of an aerial view with nothing to really compare it against. To be honest I missed the part where it was called Land of Departure, I just thought it was a fully made Daybreak Town from KH Chi.

Did you think it was running realtime in-engine or CG concept piece like the previous KH3 trailers?

I heard from KHinsider that there was no UE4 logo, so I assumed it wasn't running real-time.

There was no UI at all in the stuff they showed so to be honest I'm not sure if it was in-game or not. My gut instinct says it was in-game though just because, the animation used for Sora walking in the room looked...not janky but it didn't have the fluidity that you'd expect from a CG piece. It honestly looked almost exactly like Sora's walking animation in KH2. But I mean, animation alone is probably not something that I should be using to determine if it's real time or not lol.

Some parts(ship) are good, others are really bad...I mean some of footage look worse than Ni No Kuni which is a (good looking) PS3 game...
