YAKUZA 5 LOCALIZED FOR PS3

I don't understand why they wouldn't announce this. I mean getting Y5 is amazing, but getting Y0 localized for PS4 would have been a much more fitting bomb and given us another PS4 exclusive to get hyped for.

I actually think it makes sense to announce only one at a time, and that it would make sense to announce Yakuza 5 first, since they want to catch up the fans with the major releases. It comes across as a little more awkward to release a relatively timely (not too far from JPN Y0 release date) Yakuza Zero and then Yakuza 5 three years after it comes out in Japan (and that one is exclusive to PS3, unlike Zero)

This is of course assuming that Zero will come in the future
which it is YASSSS

Man, that wasn't even a month ago. You kids are spoiled these days; it was years before my account got activated.

Haven't played a Yakuza game before but they look fun from having watched friends play for a bit. Might check it out.

Lol, only took me 2 months.

Just when I had lost hope of ever playing Yakuza 5 this comes along as an early Christmas present!

Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!

This was the megaton for me today, as I'm sure it was for many posting here. I have every game aside from Dead Souls, I will buy this day one if its retail. I may wait until I'm caught up if its digital.

I still hope we can somehow get Yakuza 1+2 HD as well.

So I was thinking, do you think they could patch the Japanese version of Yakuza 5 to have English subtitles? That way you can have a physical copy if you want one.

Have been passive forum-reader for 10 or so years, so I managed to survive.

Yakuza games have their own charm, despite many apparent flaws I'd say. One of the more annoying things about (at least the early entries) are the horrendous loading times before every (frequent) battle. So I will not mourn the download-only release at all. One of the best things with Valkyria Chronicles PC is that similar loading times from PS3-version are gone.

3000 copies of Yakuza will be something like 10% of the total US sales, you know that right? It'd also have to be significantly more expensive, and they'd have get the disc certified, along with classification for some countries (some class digital games as a separate category), along with a bunch of other stuff. Let the physical dream die, a digital English release is them appeasing the hardcore fans.

The bolded isn't really a fair comparison, different companies profit in different ways and Yakuza really does sell worse than everything. Staff allocation is probably a lot different at Sega compared to NISA.

Eh, I guess so. I don't think it's something that would actually happen, just something that would be possible. Still, as you've pointed out to me, there's a lot of factors that go into these things that I'm probably not aware of.

The fact that the game itself is being localized at all is something of a small miracle, so I guess I'll just be happy with that.

That's actually not a glitch :X
The dude who made this video is known for model swapping in various games due to rooting his PS3

Here's the actual guy's video, don't know why there's a mirror of it :/

I knew it wasn't a glitch, the title says it. I was just hoping for some way to glitch out the game to reproduce this since I won't hack my PS3. Thanks for pointing out this is a mirror, though. Kinda weird it's the first result for "Yakuza 5 hack" when the original is the one with Yakuza 5 in the title. Edited my post to link to the original.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Awesom . What a great news to wake up to, noe about that Hd collection of the first 2,sega ?

I amused my flatmate and other people who were visiting her when I actually jumped off the chair, going "Wohooo" yesterday evening when Y5 localisation was uncovered. I had all but given up and moved on a few months back about Yakuza series in English so this was a surprise to me. Still have a grin on my face everytime I think about that we now, again, have a new Yakuza game in English after a long period of doubts, discussion, rumours, "NO!" from SEGA and 2 other Yakuza games being announced for Japan since Y5. (let the cycle repeat for Y0, I guess :D but first celebrate Y5!)

Actually I'm planning to still import Y5 as well for having a disc version. The English version of Y5 will be the first full price download game I'll ever buy (I actually hate digital download gaming stuff - mostly I get indie and when something's free or part of a promotion such as it is often the case with Nintendo.. but really, Yakuza 5 needs to be supported and I'm just so glad it's still coming).

So.. eh.. I don't have a big harddrive in my PS3, and it's almost full already with all the install data from my other games. Can I use something like a bigger USB stick or a random external harddrive with my PS3, as well? (USB flash memory would be rad since I could probably just store that in my imported Y5 Japanese retail version :D)?

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
EXCELLENT NEWS, now for Kenzan, Ishin and Zero :p

Kenzan is too far gone really.

If anything you guys "might" get Ishin and Zero, thats if everyone actually does the "Put your money where your mouth is" and buys the game instead of just pretending to be hyped.

I often describe the Yakuza games as "Soap operas for men" to the unitiated. There's no better description :p

But still PS3 only?

Will bomb and they will use it as an excuse to not localize the two PS4 Yakuza games :(

Agreed, cant go back to Ps3 dual shock. Never turn it on for a year.

Would buy on ps4 though.

Just don't get the last gen thoughts here

Do people not look at world wide sales numbers ?

It's a PS3 game so it's natural that it's coming out to the PS3.

With that said, if you want Yakuza to come to PS4 (specifically Yakuza Zero), supporting this game's going to be vital for the franchise to have any future in the west.

Ah rats, digital only? I completely missed this part. Better than nothing, I suppose. I wish you could special order a retail copy of it. After the GTA: San Andreas music mess, I just don't trust digital that much.

Just woke up a few minutes ago and still can't believe this is a thing. Still on Y2 and will finish that asap and jump to 3 and 4.

You're gonna love 4. It's the best thing ever. It's actually how I started the game. I watched the videos to catch up on the story and then beat it. It's one of the few games like that that I want a Platinum in.

EU PSN now has Yakuza 4 and Dead Souls, so Y3 might go up eventually too

Someone make a thread about them being on the PS Store...I got no thread creating privileges =X

Does anyone have a idea on file size?

My new goal: finish enough of my digital PS3 games to fit this on.

Y4 is likes 22 GB, so Y5 would be 20-25 GB based on Japanese release.

I really want this on my PS4. It's going to be hard to bust out the PS3 AGAIN :/.

I can understand how that would be a issue if not for how/why it is it's being released on the PS3 in the West and not PS4.
I'll be borrowing my PS3 off my brother after thinking I was done with it, but inconveniences don't get any more minor when the end result is that I'll be getting to play localised Yakuza 5.

I literally was open mouthed for like 2 mins when they announced this yesterday. Was my personal megaton. So happy!

*hugs PS3*

I had hopes that voices would also be English
No, just no
Y1 was painfull enough.

Of course it will! When I say limited physical print, I'm not talking about say, a retail printing of the game. I'm talking about a really tiny print, maybe around 3000 copies or so, that would only be sold through an online store. This is the same thing that Gaijinworks is doing with Class of Heroes 2G on PS3, and it's what NISA is doing with The Firefly Diary on Vita. Just a really small physical print to appease the hardcore fans, and then it never would be printed again. I'm sure it could manage a couple thousand units, really. If Class of Heroes of all things could, Yakuza should be able to.

Indeed , just make it a limited print on some online stores , No doubt it would sell well ( if they manage their expectations )

Again, managed expectations for a Yakuza game would be a few hundred. There is very big doubt it would sell well. As pointed out in an earlier thread this is a series that can't even beat The Wonderful 101.

Obviously goes without saying but supporting the digital titles will be paramount to any chance of Zero. I'll probably buy Yakuza 4 digital even though I have it physical. Call it a backup copy and an excuse to support the series.

Woke up excited and happy as hell this morning.

I haven't been this amped up for a game release in a long time. This is probably one of my top 3 franchises easily.

While I wish we could get the other ones as well, I'll buy this on whatever device in whatever format.
