Tekken 7 - Lucky Chloe revealed

Not everything has to appeal to you
The discussion is whether or not it's silly passing on the game because of aesthetics. Some of us are defending why this game no longer appeals to us.

The argument would be there (and has been) if they had radically changed the mechanics as well. Not everything has to appeal to those guys amirite?

Yeah, maybe a handful or less characters got updated alts from T5 to 6. That's not saying much. I was once a fan of Tekken's art. I've said this before, their artbooks have gotten thinner and more pointless with the lack of evolution. Relying on guest anime artists to update a character's look isn't really my thing either.

Handful or less?

LOL

That's fine.

I just find it silly that one character is enough for you guys to do so....especially since we don't even have the final roster yet. I too am not a fan of moe and all that jazz but unless the entire game was like that, it would never be enough to pass on the game...and even then, if the game is good and fun...who cares"?

However different strokes for different folks I guess

The cat hands are dumb as fuck and her voice is annoying but apart from that I don't mind her too much. I'll use her for a bit just to see how she plays, like I always do with every new character.

I can tell who likes this character based solely on whether or not there is a little anime girl in their avatar.

I legit think if that was just an alternate and not her default costume there wouldn't be that much complaining.

I don't like her. Look at that your theory is on the ground in shambles.

For me, Tekken hasn't been my bread and butter since 6 so to me, it's one more thing against it. It's not like this is the first blemish and I'm throwing it to the curb. I've been very vocal about my disappointment but it doesn't matter. You guys still get your game.

We should probably shut down this discussion forum.

Some days I wonder.

Most arguments around here come down to "I don't like this thing and thus this thing sucks". What is there to discuss after that?

You obviously aren't going to change that persons mind...but the reason it goes in so long is because that person acts weirdly entitled and whines about it enough until someone else starts and argument. It's very repetitive imo.

You don't like it......okay, and?

I don't like a lot of things, even things I used to,....I just keep it moving.

But again, that is just me and I can expect everyone to act the same as I do...I am no better than them. It is just funny to me that one character Ina series of weird ass shit, is the tipping point. I think a lot of you were out of Tekken a looooong time ago. Threads like this just feel like who can try to act cool for not liking this weird shit the fastest

I never said I am out of Tekken completely. I'll definitely buy this game at release and play a little. I just won't play it extensively and the aesthetics are part of the reason.

Load up Tekken 6 and check the costumes. I'm not going to go through every one of them.
Glancing at T5's roster and relying on my memory, seems like Lee, Jin, and Nina are the only ones who have different alts in T6 that I can think of (Yoshi and third alts notwithstanding).

It'll be the first I buy at a discounted price, that's for sure (assuming I'm not suckered in by pre-order bonuses). The fact I want to see updated skins from the past and willing to buy them is a testament to how stale these designs have been. If anything, these tried and true skins should be alts or unlocks for these characters but "how would anyone know we're selling a new Tekken if everyone doesn't look the same?!"

I gotta say that the FEELING that someone actively hates this character makes me want to play it even more.

Is that weird?

I mained Lars in T6 for a while, and felt good that his design actively pissed off people :D
I love Laurel on the Arrow. Let that sink in.

This character is awesome :D

Preach.

Some of the bitching is just for bitching sake. People who were gonna buy it will buy it those who never did can use this as a useful tool to say why they don't want this thing.

I actually kind of like Katarina. There's a chance if I was going to compete in this game I'd try for a completely fresh start and main her.

I just posted wedding dress Lili a page back. Anna? Xiaoyu? Cyborg Kazuya?

I don't want to start making lists.

Stop.

I understand what you're saying, but Tekken is the game that got me this into gaming. Not necessarily in the competitive scene, but a true appreciation of graphics, designs, story (yes, story) and investment in them to 100% completion. Before that, games were quick rentals, rainy day/sleepover activities or time passers before and after school. When I was 18 and TTT came out, I adorned my body with Jin's tat. Not as a Jin fanboy (Yoshi for life), but as a Tekken fanboy.

Fast forward to today, and it's a shell of a game I grew up with and once adored. Fighting game stories became "ha! fighting game stories lol" and the aesthetics have been recycled ad naseam because it started becoming more and more competitive which is great... but why stop evolving the designs for the sake of maintaining an "iconic" outfit from Tekken 5 of all Tekkens?

So they don't count?

What
Not when the games are blasted with the same CG art assets and defaults for the past decade.
If Kazuya had become a cyborg and his artwork/story depicted as much, he'd have a point. If all of the characters had new cg artwork on the character select screen, I wouldn't be ranting.

Those are special third alts and, for lack of a better term, non canonical.

It's a new costume. A new design. Why does it matter if it's a third alt or a second alt?

And since when did costumes become canonical?

Lili in a wedding dress suddenly doesn't count? The third alts/guest artist costumes are actually the ones with the most effort put into them.

Not when the games are blasted with the same CG art assets and defaults for the past decade.

What?

What does CG have to do with alt costumes in-game?

I'm talking aesthetics. When the game actively shows evolution in design when they reveal old characters or show artwork. I want to see the newness. I don't see anything new when I see King raising his left hand instead of his right while slightly squatted in the exact same outfit in Tekken B compared to A.

Actually the game's aesthetics not changing is part of the problem. They never change. So we have characters who literally look identical since 2004 and then most of the new content is hella anime. So the stuff I like is extremely stale and the new stuff isn't my thing. Why shouldn't I be let down?

How can someone say something like that unironically? What does that even mean? Its a nonsense statement. So more or less perfect for the direction the threads taken, "Man I remember when Tekken was so Film, but now its all Anime, fuck me, next thing you know they'll add words and it'll be all Book!"

You're talking out your arse, the reason you dont see radical evolutions in appearance in any character focused game is because the main visual appeal is, wait for it, the characters. The longer the series goes on the less reason there is to evolve the characters appearance because its become iconic and any radical change would actually be harmful to the characters brand. The fact that the aesthetics havent meaningfully changed, beyond allowances for more powerful hardware, makes these "Oooh its so ddiiffeeerent now" posts even more laughable.

I think the issue is that most of people were into the anime of the 90s, which is wait The early Tekken designs are based off of...where as the newer design skew towards the anime of today.

My issue is with how silly it is to use "anime" as a genre descriptor, I mean theres a pretty big gap between say, Fist of the North Star, which Tekken likely owes something of a visual debt to and Grave of the Fireflies, but both are anime.

You are very nitpicky. Of course they are going to feature the iconic designs during the reveal process....it's the best and easiest way to show off any changes because you can put the designs next to each other and go "see look how much better it is".

The fact is that you still get new designs as well as the old standards...which is what your original point way...

"Why don't they update the designs"

"But they do...and have"

"Those don't count because the other designs still exist"

Are you for real? That sounds like you are looking for things to be upset about.

That's whyI was saying using "anime" as a general descriptor is a bad choice of words.

I'm going to be honest, if/when they reveal Yoshi, I'll be excited again.... unless his design is shit.

Except there weren't many new alts for T6 and TTT2 got rid of them anyway. You can't defend nothingness.

And I stand firm that exotic third alts aren't my definition of the series' aesthetics evolving overall.
