Is Capcom really going to retread on that watercolour artstyle in SF5?

It was fine the first time, but there's no need to do it again.

On top of that, they're going to stick with those meathead character designs as well, action-figure sized appendages and all. What a goddamn disappointment.

I know I shouldn't expect much from modern Capcom but how hard is it to change it up for the next mainline Street Fighter game?

They had the next-gen hardware to make art like this in 3D:

But we're basically gonna get higher poly versions of this:

If they have to beg for publisher funding to even get next gen games out, I expect the improvements from USF IV to be pretty minor in most regards tbh.

Capcom looks to be in a really bad shape, economically.

I read that as "Is Capcom really going retard on that watercolour artstyle in SF5?"...

Same ahahah.

But on topic, I must be one of the few people that kinda likes the ink sort of calligraphic style. Then again I am an artist.

However I would not say no to a different art style. I really liked Tatsunoko Vs Capcoms actually. That would have been nice to see on current gen hardware.

My guess is that this retreading is part due to budget and part due to how successful SF4 was. I don't mind it personally, and I think it gives the game a more unique style.

Don't we already have plenty other fighting games that try to fill in the super-detailed character models market?

I love the goofy cartoon over the top experssions of the characters.

At first I hate the look of sf4 before it's release but once i saw it in person I loved it.

i mean there was some ink involved in the tatsu etc...but it wasnt very water colory at all. considerably different look imo, chun kinda got a 3s chun look. i wont say its more realistic but it is certainly less stylized. i dont adore it but i really dont understand the outrage or the people saying it looks like 4. i think maybe Xrd set the bar pretty high for what people expect 2d fighters to look like at this particular moment in time and really got peoples imaginations going about what a game with alpha or 3s style artwork would look like with a Xrd type aesthetic. whatever. i just hope its fun.

i think the ink is tied to a special mode that is activated ala N groove pop from cvs2...

next gen sf had so much potential

oh well, can't expect much from a dying franchise

if you can tell how much a SF game is worth from 1:30 worth of trailer and basically make a decision based on the artstyle you got no fucking clue about what a fighting game is.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
If this was SFV Capcom I would be so in.

The ugly retread of SFIV, no thanks. I thought SFIV was a terrible entry in the franchise and have no interest in a game following suit of it.

You know nothing about its gameplay systems.

Totally agree. The art style doesn't feel right. I don't like it. Also the character sizes are wayyyyy toooooo biggggggg, Did you see the video? Even Chun Li's legs were monstrous in size. Looked terrible.

SF fans only care about gameplay mechanics and combos/blocking. MvsC3 looked like utter shit yet no one commented on the visuals, they don't care.

I thought it looked great actually.

This is basically the same thing as SF4 though. All the characters are like that. If anything they're slimmer in this version.

Also Chun Li's thighs have always been thunderous lol

I thought the new models look a lot more like the sf2 character designs. What do you want them to look realistic? That would be horrible

Indeed. It's so 'terrible' that it's the #1 fighting game in the world.

Please stop talking. MvC3 looks fantastic.

It doesn't have exaggerated expressions. It doesn't have watercolor textures on characters and backgrounds. It also has more realistic faces. It actually looks like Street Fighter III more than anything.

I mean, OP did you even look at the pictures you posted? Characters were extremely muscular in III as well.

Also, the characters appear to have unique flairs attached to them: Ryu is ink, Chun Li is water. Everyone likely will not be ink.

If there are doing it again, I would have liked them to take it a step further to be more like how dream-like and impressionistic the intro video of SFIV looked.

The colored pencil look of the SSFIV intro would be cool too.

It's the #1 what?

If you're talking about popularity and sales, I guess CoD is the #1 game of the year every year with that kind of shit logic. There's a lot of Street Fighter fans that thought SF4 was horrible, it's not a new concept.

The watercolour is fine. The meathead rehash is a bit disappointing.

Putting aside the artstyle.. The Street Fighter II physics again disappoint me. In my ideal world, the numbered SF games would all be as different from one another as SFII was to SFIII.

I'm less interested in Street Fighter II '15 as I am in an actual successor fighting system.

I think even the fg fans who don't absolutely love the game (myself included) have grown to respect it quite a lot. Def has the most vibrant competitive scene atm.

While I'm not a huge SF guy I was kinda disappointed seeing the SFV footage and it basically looking like a slightly nicer SFIV with some sort of EX charge mode ability(?). I mean, the 2D games kinda looked a like too (obviously more detailed sprites in 3 compared to 4). I guess if it works there isn't a need to change and the canon 3D appearances are the more chunky style found in SFIV with the water colour/ink swooshes.

I do think it'd have been amazing if they pulled off a Guilty Gear Xrd and did anime/cartoony 3D that looks 2D.

Ha at some of the images here.

I generally quite like how it looks, but I agree they could probably do with changing the proportions a little on some of the characters. Most of the guys in SF4 look like steroid monsters.

I like how it looks. Generally, I'm relieved that it exists at all but it essentially looks Street Fighter to me even if it's the most inspired of aesthetics.

I guess after people complained that SF4 didn't look like the trailers they double downed on that style to try and bring that look to light. I was kinda hoping it would like the pencil sketch style of the Super Street Fighter 4 trailer with colored pencil particle effects exploding out of a fighter every time a nasty hit landed.

Read my post again perhaps?

Indeed. It's so 'terrible' that it's the #1 fighting game in the world.

It's consistently getting the highest numbers at every fighting game tournament in the world as well as the most active player base for a fighting game.

So popular = good?

I disagree, but then again I play CS instead of CoD and 3s instead of USF4. I'd hate to have my opinions dictated by whatever is the most popular at the time.
