I would definitely get this on PS4. Haven't played FFX since the PS2 days, and never played FFX-2. I don't have a PS3, so that option is out the window. Hopefully this is coming sooner than later.

I hope this version renders at 4k and downscales to 1080p. Okami HD looked so good for that reason. That said, lol s-e.....

I brought the PS3 remaster but haven't got to it yet, I guess I would get it so I could put the PS3 away earlier. Although I still have the Tales of Symphonia collection to beat, Tales if Xillia 2 and Tales of Zestiria next year. If Namco could port those too to PS4 or have PS3 classics on PSN, it would help free my entertainment space.

You know, just skimming a few pages of this thread, it's amusing how a game like Shovel Knight getting rereleased on PS4 gets resounding "YES FINALLY" and "it's good to have it on as many platforms as possible" and X/X-2 HD (remaster status aside) gets as much vitriol as it does.

It's nowhere near as much a troll as the FFVII PS4 announcement was.

another nightmare added to my list of games that's going to be released on better systems

dark souls 2
gtav
tomb rider
resident evil hd remaster
the last of us
ffx and ffx-2 -rumor-
KH 1.5+2.5 -rumor-

my money :(

Illustrates the difference in mindset perfectly.

And really, it's not even a troll. It hasn't even been announced!

You should not be surprised. This is Square Enix double porting/remastering a title after announcing they are porting the PC version of their most notable title to the PS4 (no one wanted this).

Shovel Knight was made by an indie studio. They have not fallen from grace, and they currently have a single title exclusive to Nintendo platforms. It being ported to a new audience is a good thing!

I hope trophies aren't shared with the PS3/Vita games so that I can get another X/X-2 platinum set.

I hope trophies are shared so they can do cross-save.

I have zero interest in having my favourite games listed twice on my trophy list, always annoys me.

I got my platinum trophy last week on Vita. Got all the characters with maxed stats also. It took me 150h and I don't think I want to grind the monster arena ever again. I still enjoyed it quite a bit but it's not something I would recommend to others.

It's not really an announcement though, but yeah. SE gets shit for whatever they do these days (and that will increase by the thousands after last saturday).

Never said I was surprised.

And honestly all joking aside, the more I think about it the more I'm actually hearing a ring of truth to the whole 'the more platforms it's on, the better'. Complaining of the existence of a PS4 version is akin to PS3 users complaining that the Vita version exists. It doesn't make your PS3 version disappear, so live and let live.

If you're saying that someone who has a PS3 and PS4 and would rather have bought the PS4 version armed with the foreknowledge that it might exist in future, therefore saving a little bit of money, then yeah, you have a point.

I personally don't think performance is going to be very different. These are touched up PS2 games.

They ignore good things. They do stupid things.

I want to say some lead people from 12 left the company in not the best terms so maybe no one left inside SE has the same nostalgia for it as fans might.

I need it though. Only got a few hours into it before ps2 broke down and we just got a PS3 instead. Its the last big gap in my PS2 knowledge.

Oh and if Square is just porting ports now I think its also basically confirms that a FFXIII collection on next gen is more then likely actually going to happen soon after the PC release of LR.

Maybe it will be their holiday game next year. lol.

Also I wouldn't be shocked of the KH collection happens in March 2016 with a demo for KH3 ala the 15 demo.

What pisses me off is their policy. If this will release in 2015, it means in was already planned during the (re)making of the PS3 and Vita versions.
If they would announced this for PS4 too BEFORE PS3 and Vita releases, there wouldn't be problems. You can choose the version you want (clearly PS4>PS3>Vita).

But they will release it now, with the hope that people will double dip. It's really a crappy trend, and it needs to stop now.

You're sure? Maybe they decided this in July or so. PS4 is a much easier platform for porting than PS3.

The more FFX sells the better. Feeds my meager hopes of Square Enix revisiting the series and making a third entry!

Nothing in my post has to do with my personal feelings on the subject. I am just pointing how that it seems strange to me that you find amusement in the difference between the Shovel Knight and FFX/X-2 HD situationa because they are not even remotely similar.

This is the reason why PS4 doesn't offer backward compatibility (yeah, it doesn't own cell processor, without it would be impossible play PS3 games etc. etc.), so SE could milk its PS3 releases turning them into PS4 games.

PS2>PS3>PS4
Or

PS1>PC>PS4

That's not true at all.

I don't see the point of this. Surely they have reached almost all their audience that would buy this already between the ps2/ps3/vita versions. Can they really get that much money out of this?

Selling remasters or remakes isn't purely about appealing to nostalgia and selling to fans. They're also for people who weren't aware of the games before or even around at all to play them at all.

The original director Yasumi Matsuno came back to do the (fantastic) Tactics Ogre remake on PSP. He's a huge fan of FFXIV, too. The art lead Akihiko Yoshida did the art for FFXIV, Bravely Default and even after going freelance is doing the art for Bravely Second. Sakimoto remixed the music for the TO remake. The guy that took over FFXII is at SE, working on... something.

The company is on good terms with the leads of FFXII.

Hiroyuki Ito didn't "take over" FFXII. He was the original director from start to finish (and beyond: FFXII International ZJS). Matsuno was one of two directors.

Dude, I'm scared to play any Final Fantasy game now. Still a FF newbie. Haven't beat a single one. Have tried 13 and 9, couldn't get into them. Maybe I need to spend more time with 9.

But seriously, I'm afraid to try another one because they'll just rerelease it on PS4...
