I recommend everyone to pick up the original Suikoden. It's a very good game, just beautiful artwork and music and a great cast that I always shuffle around between playthroughs.

I wonder if they fixed the bugs in Suikoden II like the Suiko 1 name bug (like if my protag's name in Suiko 1 is Tir, his name will be TcDohl in Suiko 2)...

Yuichi said it's Sony who is in charge of testing and preparing it for PSN. Also that Sony is working on the PSX original copies :S

Do I have to play 1 to play 2 or are the stories unrelated?

2 takes place 3 years after 1 and references some of the events of the first game. It also has overlapping characters and a save import feature. I would recommend playing the first since it is much shorter and a good game.

Suikoden II is one of the best JRPGs. All-time Top 5 JRPG for me :) First one was great, too.
I loved the intense political drama and touching, personal stories of the characters. Some of the scenes were heartwrenchingly sad, especially those showing the villain's gruel war crimes. Extremely emotional stuff for my young self back in the days.

What?? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Hi all,

This is Yuichi.. host to most of Konami Twitch streams

Thanks so much for all you did to make this happen, Yuichi! And everyone at Konami/Sony helping to bring this about.

I discovered the Suikoden series quite late, at the very end of the PS2 generation. It's with very little nostalgia that I say, this is the greatest game series of all time!

Thanks for your continued support and patience.
I hope this is the first step of many to get Suikoden back on track.
The ball is in the fans court now.. vote for your wallets.

For less than 20 dollars you can get Suikoden 1 and 2 in less than 24 hours!

So awesome thanks so much for bringing these games to PS1 classics. Both games are amazing, especially Suikoden 2 which is like one of my favorite JRPG of all time. Any plans to bring Suikoden 3 over as well? Sgt. Joe and Geddoh were cool haha

I hope so too. I'd love to see new Suikoden games that use II's art style.

Imagine a Suikoden II style game on Vita...

Worth it. 5.99 for a very good RPG, even if it's short. It also has ties to the 2nd.

Might as well. The save (and a character you can't get otherwise) can be loaded by Suiko II. Suikoden I is pretty easy, the combat system isn't great, and it's suffers from some ugly texturing, but it has a decent story, good character dialogue, and some interesting gameplay elements that other JPRGs don't.

Thanks guys. I'll be picking both up tomorrow, then!

Anyone call dibs on the OT? I can do a simple banner and make the OT. Will be up at 8 AM PST.

Which one is better? If I were to only get one, which is it?

II is the best, but seriously, you should get both. If you play II and go back to I, you might feel a tad disappointed because II heavily improves upon I.

Okay, so as a person who's been wanting to play Suikoden II for a long time just due to how everyone raves about it as an amazing JRPG...is the original Suikoden worth picking up as well? Honestly not sure if I should get both or not.

Go ahead and play both. I is good (although not as good). II brings me to tears every time I play it. The character writing is just superb.

Suikoden 1 only works on the PS3/PSP right now. Tomorrow will that version just update to have Vita support?

I'm playing it on my Vita right now and have been since I got it last year.

You have to download it to your ps3, then take the file and transfer it to Vita.

Suikoden 1 is currently PS3 transfer only. They should fix that tomorrow.

Personally I'm going to be ready in case the floodgates get released sgain ( I.e. Any and everything psp gets activated for vita download). I really need Valkyria chronicles 2 DLC on vita). We never did figure out what happened, but whenever we get these "used to not work and now they do" situations I get my hopes up

I'll just wait till tomorrow and hopefully just be able to download it straight to the Vita.

If anyone is on the fence about Suikoden I, and also into internet-stalking famous game designers, Warren Spector, the creator of Deus Ex, says Suikoden was one of his biggest influences in making Deus Ex and one of his favorite games of all time.

The Interview is here, might be some spoilers though: Link. He talks about Suikoden toward the end of the video.

He also says he likes it more than Suikoden II, so opinion invalidated I guess, haha.

Get a memory card adapter for ps3, copy the save over to your system, copy it from the ps3 to the vita.

Apparently these are hard to get now...

Glad I kept mine. I used it only once, when I bought my PS3 years ago and transferred all of my original PS1 save files onto the console. I figured it would end up as a niche accessory. It's pretty sweet that I can try to beat my original Ridge Racer record times nearly 20 years later. That's fantastic legacy support.

Praying that Asia gets this too. I was so busy celebrating when this was announced that I forgot that it's digital and I'm not in the US!

What's a nice header title for the Suikoden II OT?

Hi all,

This is Yuichi.. host to most of Konami Twitch streams

I want to thank the hardworking guys at Sony and Konami (such as our very own ToraShir0) to help with the push to release this classic to PSN and VITA.

Also, thank you to the followers and fans of our twitch stream..
Your support really did help show that this would be worth the effort.

If you are new to Suikoden, please give it a shot.
Suikoden II is a direct sequel to Suikoden I and, as far as I know, the saves can transfer from 1 to 2.

Thanks again.

Yo thanks for releasing the game. I have suikoden already for the VITA, been waiting for II to release in order to play it so I'm glad for the wait to be over.

So I purchased suikoden on PSN months ago thinking it would play on my vita, does anyone know if the purchase is retro active, or will I have to buy an entirely new suikoden 1

Why? What's it comparable to? I don't know anything about it

It's like every game with a large recruitable party (Chrono Cross), base building (Breath of Fire 2), and large scale tactical battles and one on one duels (SaGa Frontier 2), only done right, the way you imagined it would be, before discovering that those were just gimmicks that didn't work well in those games.

The first game is a retelling of The Water Margin / Outlaws of the Marsh, and features many scenes from the book adapted to a more traditional fantasy setting. Part 2 and beyond have weaker ties to the novel, but 2 still has a bit of a Chinese flair to many of the settings and character designs.

The story focuses on both politics and character drama, as opposed to saving the world.

Going to be playing I as soon as I can download it tomorrow.
Reading about the bugs for NA versions, this affects whatever the main character's name defaults to?
