The Elder Scrolls Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that was announced in May 2012 and was released on April 4th, 2014. It is the 8th game in The Elder Scrolls series. On June 9 2015, the game is
being released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.Developed by the team at ZeniMax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

On March 17, 2015, The Elder Scrolls Online will transfer from a subscription-based title to a Buy-to-Play model similar to previous Elder Scrolls games, where one pays a one-time fee and unlimited access to the game. The game will introduce a cash shop, the Crown Store, where things such as vanity items and experience boosters are sold for a premium currency called Crowns, but nothing that gives players a significant advantage over another will be sold. Players who have had a subscription prior to the transition will be given 1500 crowns, or more if they have had a 3 or 6-month subscription.

The PC and Mac version was released on April 4, 2014 and will be released on June 9, 2015 for consoles (PS4 and Xbox One). Pre-ordering the game gave players the option to play as any race in any Alliance, an exclusive pet called the Scuttler, and some treasure maps. Buying the Imperial Edition gives players the option to play as an Imperial, craft Imperial gear, convert existing gear into the Imperial style, gives an Imperial horse with standard stats, a mudcrab vanity pet and the Pledge of Mara, which allows players to marry.

Classes
ElderScrollsWiki said:
There are four classes, including Dragonknight, Templar, Sorcerer, and Nightblade. Classes will only give players 3 exclusive skill lines, and do not affect a character's other choices. For example, you can be a very stealthy Sorcerer who wears heavy armor and wields a bow.

Dragon Knight
ElderScrollsWiki said:
The Dragonknight, like all classes, has 3 unique skill lines only available for Dragonknights; Ardent Flame, Draconic Power and Earthen Heart. Each of these abilities are more suited to specific roles. For example, Draconic Power is more suited towards survivability, while Ardent Flame is more suited towards dealing damage. The arrows are used to signify an ability's morph choices e.g. one morph choice for Fiery Grip, is Empowering Chains.

Templar
ElderScrollsWiki said:
These traveling knights call upon the powers of light and the burning sun to deal massive damage to their enemies while restoring health, magicka, and stamina to their allies.

Sorcerer
ElderScrollsWiki said:
Sorcerers summon and control weather phenomenon: hurling lightning bolts and creating electrified fields, summoning tornadoes and impenetrable fog, and calling upon Daedric forces to summon Storm Atronachs and magical armor.

Nightblade
ElderScrollsWiki said:
Nightblades are adventurers and opportunists with a gift for getting in and out of trouble. Relying variously on stealth, blades, and speed, Nightblades thrive on conflict and misfortune, trusting to their luck and cunning to survive.[1]

BLACKSMITHING, CLOTHING, WOODWORKER
tentonhammer said:
These are the skills used to make your basic gear. Blacksmithing makes Heavy armor and melee weapons, Clothing makes Light and Medium armor, and Woodworker makes bows, staves and shields. Though the items are different, the processes for all of these crafts are essentially identical.

PROVISIONING
tentonhammer said:
Provisioning is the crafting of buffing food and beverages. The crafting menu is a lot simpler than the gear-crafting menus - you make either food or beverage.

ALCHEMY
tentonhammer said:
Potion brewing is a little more complex, because the ingredients are more rare and they have multiple effects.
Each brewing reagent - flowers, mushrooms, roots, leaves and such - has 4 different properties, and must be combined with other reagents with the same properties in order to make a functional potion. If the selected reagents have two shared properties, the potion created with them will have two effects. This can be awesome (for example, if a potion has both Restore Health and Restore Stamina effects) or it can be kind of useless (for example, Restore Stamina + Drain Magicka). Potions with negative effects are used as poisons, unless they are mixed with beneficial effects, in which case they are consumed as normal potions.

ENCHANTING
tentonhammer said:
You can add Enchantments to make your weapons do extra damage, or to your armor for Health and Stamina buffs, or a variety of other effects. You can buy cheap ready-made Enchantments from the Enchantment vendor, or you can mix and match different runes to make your own.

While PvE and PvP make use of the exact same game play mechanics, your success in either requires very different tactics.

How to take part in battles?
All you need to take part in AvA is to enter Cyrodiil. You can do this after reaching 10th level. All players between 20th and 50th level who enter the territory of Cyrodiil receive “battle-leveling” that temproary enhances their attributes. Players with Battle levels do not have access to full class abilities, skills and perks. Character with battle level is not as strong as a character with real level.

Thus you can bring maximum benefits for you alliance after you reach rather high level. That does not mean you should not visit Cyrodiil when you are not strong enough. You can enter the province, fight there and level up but you will not be the strongest person.

The Justice and Champion Systems seem really cool. I can't wait until they add them.

It's going to be interesting compared to previous Elder Scrolls games. I used to hit load if I got caught. Now if you get caught you'll have no choice but to face the consequences.

On the one hand I love being a thief but on the other hand it'd be good fun going round with guildies catching them as enforcers. Going to be fun :)

Champion system and addition of Dark Brotherhood is what I'm really waiting for. I'm going to renew here soon and play it casually till then.

I'm still enjoying this. In fact, I've come to think of this game as a very underrated MMO and game in general. Whenever a "recommend me an MMO" thread pops up you always see WoW, GW2, ArcheAge, and even TOR now but never see ESO mentioned once. It's just that first impressions are everything, and ESO made a not so great one, and it's almost impossible to bounce back completely from that. It was universally panned during beta, then people played/heard about the bugs for the first few months, coupled with the $15 sub and that was already the nail in the coffin for a lot of people.

Which is a shame, because all the updates continue to improve the game dramatically. If you take your time leveling, listen to all the dialogue and quests, explore, craft, etc this game has a staggering amount of content. I'm almost 300 hours with my only character and I'm just about to hit VR2 and currently doing Cadwell's Silver for Daggerfall (I was EP). Haven't even gone into Cyrodiil, Craglorn, or any Veteran Dungeons/Trials. It also looks beautiful maxed out at times. It has its share of low res crap but the lighting and shadows look amazing at times. If you explore and take time to notice the world you can tell Zenimax put a lot of effort into creating Tamriel, they don't get enough credit for the job they did.

Agreed. This game had lots of forward momentum at the wrong time. In my mind it'll either slowly bring people back or it'll become a lost gem :(

Finally finished Cadwell's Gold at the weekend. Phew that took some time. Will check my play time stats later. The Daggerfall Covenant has by far the best story line I think. The Aldmeri Dominion was awesome just because I really like the elves. I didn't like the volcanic ash clouds in the first Ebonheart starter area but now when ever I go back there I really like it.

Also completed a Veteran Undaunted Pledge ... ouch they're brutal. Unless you've got your stuff together and you have a plan you get owned. Love the boss mechanics but someone in the group needs to know the strategy otherwise it's face meets floor time.

Craglorn is good fun but finding a group is not so much. Wish they would work harder on the grouping tool. It's quite tedious logging in and spamming the chat looking for someone to come do a mission with you.

Still to go ... Dragonstar arena and Aetherion Archive.

so i went ahead and bit the bullet on this... installing right now

was wondering how soloing fares on this? I heard you can make it through most dungeons alone as there's usually people around to help you out

I just renewed my account, only going to PVP really, but I have yet to be able to play. I re-started it last night and tried logging in and was told to check my email for a code since my PC wasn't recognized. I have yet to received my code, I've tried multiple times and even changed my email to see if it'd go to a new email.

I went ahead and emailed support but havent heard back.

It's very solo friendly. The only times you can't solo are for group dungeons and world bosses when leveling, then end game stuff like Craglorn, Veteran dungeons, and trials. The population is healthy so you shouldn't have too long of a wait for grouping up.

Hoping this still makes an appearance on the ps4. Was really looking forward to playing it.

It's definitely coming to the PS4 and Xbone. There were rumors the console release would be this month but I wouldn't expect it until Q1 2015.

You could solo a world boss if you had your game face on. I say that but I usually wait for someone to turn up. If you're in EU Ebonheart and ever need a meat shield PM and I'll come help you out :)

The wait for the console version is killing me. It has been so long without any news..

I think they're having some tech difficulties or something. Look at it this way you're gonna have a much more polished game and a TON of content when it does hit though.

That's true. But the wait wouldn't be so bad if they just said something.

IGN's "popular games coming soon" list has ESO releasing in December for consoles. Bethesda's website also says the game is releasing on PS4 and XB1 in 2014.

I really wish they would break the silence.

Well I am still unable to login, they responded having me try a couple things (add to safe senders list which was already done, check spam/junk folder.. nothing in there and turn off firewall when attempting, no go). So I'm waiting to hear back as they said they wanted those tested first... have paid for two days now and unable to login.. yay

Started leveling werewolf last night. Have to say ... it's awesome!!! if you're sitting on loads of unspent skill points or just want a savage tank ability, get a bite :) it's so much fun.

Love the morph, love the leap to target, love the new howl to heal (which is incredibly useful) and love eating bodies to stay in form. Been trying it out in Craglorn and it's a seriously viable end game build.

It was hard doing a vet boss who did a tonne of poison damage but other than that it's been a massive DPS & Tank boost.

I have been meaning to try that out. I refuse to pay someone for the bite though. I think my bosmer will have the best luck with it due to poison resistance.

I gave it to my Bosmer to :D I didn't pay for it. There are enough round now that you can usually get one for free. I just asked in one of social guilds and someone chimed up. If you were on EU I'd of passed it on :p shame

You could always try finding a rare hound on a full moon and do it the real way :D

I will most likely try getting it the natural way for a while first. That alt has a while before it gets to the Rift though.

I am still waiting for more NA Gaffers to join in on the guild. I hope to start grouping up for PVP and dungeons. I really was upset when the pvp had been taken over by the Aldmeri and Daggerfall aligning against the Pact. That was part of the reason that I had left the game for a while.

New The Road Ahead by Matt Firor
http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2014/12/04/the-road-ahead---december-4

Some Screen Shots at the link and... CONSOLE NEWS

As we wrap up our PC/Mac launch year, I thought I’d use this blog not only as the usual “Road Ahead,” but also as a “Road Travelled” entry, looking back on what we’ve accomplished since launch and giving you an update on where we’re going next.

The Road Travelled
As you all know, 2014 has been a very busy year for us at ZOS. We launched ESO on PC and Mac and immediately started addressing any issues that cropped up, going on to release five huge updates that introduced new content, new systems, tweaks and fixes to existing systems, and tons more. We’ve done so much since launch, in fact, that we’ve sometimes run the risk of doing too much and disrupting your play routines or character builds with the frequent changes.

With everything we’ve done, we firmly believe that ESO is a much better, more stable, and more fun game than it was six months ago. This is the way online games like this work: the game you launch is a starting point that inevitably evolves over time—and of course, community feedback is one of the most important parts of that process. I am very happy with the evolution of ESO up to this point, and I hope you all agree.

Here’s just a small list of some of the work we’ve done to improve ESO since launch:

•Made in-game chat much more peaceful by implementing many different lines of defense against black market gold farmers, spammers, and botters
•Fixed a far-reaching quest bug that prevented quests from advancing properly—a bug that plagued us through the first few weeks of launch
•Released Craglorn, our first major update, with new Veteran Ranks, a new zone for veteran players to explore, and 12-player Trials
•Released many Veteran Dungeons, giving veteran-ranked players the ability to experience new adventures that add to the dungeon storylines introduced in earlier levels
•Re-designed many of the delves throughout Tamriel to be larger and more challenging
•Introduced the Dragonstar Arena, which presents four-player groups with a progression of challenging PvE encounters
•Introduced new quality-of-life systems like the ability to dye your armor, new upgraded conversation and face animations, guild tabards, chat bubbles, and much more
•Smoothed combat animations and timing, which is an ongoing process
•Reconfigured Campaigns in Cyrodiil to make them shorter and more interesting
•Made repeatable dungeon and crafting quests, and implemented scaling dungeon difficulty
•We’ve found (and are still finding!) solutions and are always applying changes to rectify our mistakes– we aren’t perfect, and this process will be ongoing, but we’re committed to continually improving the ESO experience
•Worked to increase our overall transparency and communication with you, our community, which is also a continuing effort
We couldn’t be more excited about everything there is to look forward to in 2015. We’ll be introducing some of the new systems that we’ve talked about publicly over the last couple of months, and of course, we will be bringing ESO to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

For the team at ZOS, the remainder of 2014 will be spent working on one of our largest updates yet (more on that below) and continuing our work on the console versions. For you, this means that we will continue to listen to your feedback and make changes where needed with our regular smaller patch cadence of bug fixing and polishing, but we won’t be adding any new systems until Update 6 hits PTS in January.

Update 6 Coming in January
Our next update will come to PTS shortly after the first of the year. It’s going to be a big one, and will include both the Champion System and the Justice System.

The Champion System will include the new post-level 50 veteran progression changes we’ve been talking about for a few months now. We’ve done preparation work for the Champion System in updates 4 and 5, and Update 6 will include phase 3 of the system. This phase includes the ability to spend points in Champion Passives and many ability changes that complement the system.

We want to give everyone a heads up that we’ll be introducing the Justice System using a phased approach, much like what we’ve been doing with the Champion System. So, the first iteration of the Justice System will include Skyrim-style PvE elements—you’ll be able to steal from vendors, pickpocket NPCs, kill NPCs, have justice meted out to you by guards—but not with the PvP Enforcer part of the system.

The most important reason to do this is to make sure that the Justice System has a solid foundation before adding the extra PvP elements. As most of you know, PvP is by its very nature extremely difficult to predict. We want to have a stable system in place to build on before we add more unpredictable elements.

To put this into perspective, the Justice System will include huge updates to the very fundamentals of the game. Townspeople will be considered neutral and be attackable, and many items that you could take freely before will be considered owned and must be stolen. There are fences who’ll buy stolen goods—if you can get past the guards while you have a bounty on your head. These are large changes to the game, and go hand-in-hand with our vision to add more freedom and sandbox-style elements to the world. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and we just need to make sure that we phase it in carefully to ensure the best experience for everyone.

Update 6 is so large that we’ll be holding the Imperial City PvP area for a future update. With all of our QA and testing resources focused on the far-reaching Justice and Champion Systems (along with other systems impacted by the update), we want to be sure that the Imperial City is fully ready when it hits PTS and moves on to launch.

Console Update
As I’ve mentioned, we have been (and will continue to be) steadily working on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of ESO. They are playable and fun right now, but there's still some work to do before we can set an official launch date. First and foremost, we want to make sure that two of our most important systems still in development—the Justice and Champion Systems—are included in the console release. Those two systems will introduce a huge amount of content to the game, and we know everyone is looking forward to the new types of gameplay they provide.

It’s also important to note that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of ESO are not just ports of the PC/Mac game. We have completely replaced the PC user interface with a console-specific UI designed from the ground-up with a controller and a living room play experience in mind. We’ve also added voice chat and full integration with XBL and PSN. Expect to see lots of news about our console versions in early 2015.

Wrapping up 2014
Thanks for everything that you in the ESO Community have done for us over the last year. We will continue to talk openly with you, react to feedback, fix problems, and move ESO forward together. Thank you so much for your input, your dedication, and for being involved.

Happy Holidays everyone, and we’ll see you in 2015!

Pretty interesting stuff. I can't wait for the next update, as the Champion system looks to be a million times more interesting than veteran ranks.

So Update 6 right now has Champion System, Justice System phase 1, Provisioning Revamp AND the combat animation revamp... holy moly. I wish we got Imperial City also, but I have a feeling that will be in the following update.

Hi Friends,

I just re-subbed because I was bored, and wanted to try it out with my new Nvidia 980. I actually really enjoyed the game for the Story and Questing, thought it was great. But haven't played since July

I have a question about the framerate, it's been a while and I don't remember. With my new 980, I just logged in to the middle of Wayrest (city in Stormhaven). Well my fps was sometimes dropping into the 50s and mid-40s... does anyone know if this is "normal" even for powerful hardware? Quite frankly, I was expecting everything to be 90 to 100 fps

I'm not even at max settings either, it was still at my previous Video settings that I last played with a Nvidia 680:

What do yall think, something wrong with my system or are cities in ESO always going to drop framerate??

i'm having a lot of fun with this. very surprised how it doesn't feel like a theme park *cough* FFXIV *cough*... quests are generally fun and well written, wasn't once tasked to kill 10 spiders or any nonsense

i don't know what people are talking about it not feeling like ES because for the most part it does

have yet to delve into the MMO-y stuff though (group dungeons, pvp, ect)

The wait for the console version is killing me. It has been so long without any news..

I read a March release for console but can't remember where I read it now. Jealous console is getting in game chat, I know PC has TeamSpeak and such but I'd of loved a local chat client.

Also really hope PC gets that console UI ... I'd much prefer that on the couch *crosses fingers*

What's you CPU? As far as I can tell this game seems to be more CPU heavy than GPU.

A few guildies and I set up a Red Wedding in EP Cyrodil ... behind it all someone had let the bananas know about it and they snuck in to make it a true Red Wedding :D link if anyone is interested in watching it from the attackers point of view.

Love the community, always up for a bit of fun.

Need to find a few hours to take on the Dragonstar arena now ... want that title :) Completley addicted to Werewolf right now as well. If anyone wants a bite on EU EP let me know, happy to give it away weekly. Really reccomend Werewolf to Tanks / Stamina DD's ... sooo much fun

You might be right that this game is more CPU-bound

I did go outside the city and everything was running 80-100+ fps. Are the major cities in this game known to drop framerate?

I've not noticed it myself on a 760. I'll check later. Maybe in cities with lots of people this is the case.

Tried doing a bit more Craglorn last night. Grouped with some randoms to do some quests. We did well until we got to a boss that really required a tank which we didn't have. It's a real shame the grouping tool is still a mess. Essentially at Craglorn you'e heavily reliant on strangers if you can't find a guild / friend to help you. It would be nice to just tick a search box and let it auto group you. I guess as this is end game stuff not many people will be bothered by this at the moment.

It's a little annoying though as the only things left for my Vet13 is Craglorn, Cyrodil and Daily Delves which all require grouping grrr ... o well

Been saving up all my Legendary yellow mats since I started. At vet14 I'm going to craft a full yellow set ... it's been a long journey but it will be nice to don a legendary set.

Also finally researched 7 traits in everything now ... slowly crawling to 8. Have all motifs except Dwemer. If anyone wants an armour set in anything (EU) for the their characters send me just the crafting material and what you need and I'll happily make it all for you. I recommend the Hunding's Rage for solo player, the extra weapon damage is awesome.

Same goes for potions, enchantments and provisions :) If anyone came back and logged into our guild bank you would see a monumental amount of loot. I think we're at 600 lockpicks, about 300 of each motif material. It's a good place to hoard environment armour / weapon sets as well as anyone can just pick the bits out they need for their set.

I recommend the guild bank sorter add-on, is perfect for auto stacking the guild bank when it gets piled high.

I'm curious if their will be any impact on loot once the justice system kicks in, as at the moment I loot every draw, box and barrel I see. If they suddenly become really hard to loot resource could become a lot harder to come by.

Well, I finally got more friends to get this game, and they have been having a lot of fun with it as well. Roving the wilds in a group makes this game so much easier.

I personally can't wait to steal everything from everyone in every town I find.

Also, just a reminder that if you want to join the NA guild, just hit me up at @XTVengeance or PM me here on GAF.

The game is very CPU bound. It uses up to 32 threads while running, however they are locked to two cores as the game doesn't multithread very well at all. Meaning, you will see GPU usage drop right down in towns, because the CPU can't generate enough frames to send to the GPU. For instance, a graphics frame might be ready to go, but unless the sound thread has caught up then the frame won't be sent to GPU as the sound thread doesn't always complete in time. This is the reason why PVP in the game performs so badly.

This means that CPU clock speed is more important than the number of cores, for this game. Even CPU clock speed is more important than graphics card to be honest.

If you look at the minimum specs, it needs just two cores - this is by design. They've been quite open with they wanted it to run on PCs from 2008.

This is the chief problem with getting the game to work on Xbox One and PS4, by the way. The engine. Both consoles have AMD Jaguar mobile CPUs, with 6 usable cores BUT clock speeds of 1.75ghz (Xbox One) and 1.6ghz (PS4).

Got to round 8 of the Dragon Star Arena last night. That thing is fuuun. You really need a strategy to get through it though. We tried just going in 3 DD 1 Healer. Every round we died until we figured out a strat to bring the mobs / boss down. By round 5 we couldn't do it any more without a tank so one of us swapped out. We got to round 8 and had to call it a night. All in all it took us 2 hours! Used about 50 unstoppable potions and spent about 3k in repairs. Determined to get it done. Team speak is essential unless everyone knows exactly what they're doing. It's essential to shout out sacrifices, healers, poison AoE's or by round 8
the massive spinning dwemer flying towards you from behind

Going to do an AA run tonight and see how that goes.

Still loving this game :D the end game stuff is punishing but satisfying.

This person has done a Vet DSA run if anyone needs tips, you can see how well organised they are and they have maxed everything out they can.

Even CPU clock speed is more important than graphics card to be honest.

thx for the technical explanation for CPU-bound

I didn't know if something was wrong with my new GTX 980 lol

So weird that this game won 2014 MMO of the year and yet is so buried on GAF?

I was going to post this...you realise that 90% of people complaining about the game here never played it or hate MMO's right...

Yeah it has some faults but its a good game.

Indeed. A lot of people hate on it just to hate on it. Another reason may be that they thought it was just gonna be like skyrim but with multiple people and were somehow surprised that it isn't that.

Regardless, I love the game and will continue to play it for a long time.

Also, I just got my NB to become a werewolf, and it is so much fun. Greatly enhanced my tanking ability, as well as gave me some great melee dps.

Are anny MMO OTs really that popular on NeoGAF? Wildstar is practically dead as well. The WoW thread is always active, but that seems to be moreso just a small handful of very active posters.

Is this worth subbing to for a month or two for a run through if I enjoyed Skyrim? I played the beta and I think I remember enjoying it, but I can't remember specifics. I'm debating between this, Guild Wars 2, or reupping my FFXIV sub at the moment.

I didn't think of it from that perspective but that would make a lot of sense. Well at least the hate has gone, along with most of GAF :p

I didn't realise MMO's were unpopular on GAF but that would explain a lot.

Well it's won 2014 MMO Game of the Year so if you're going to give an MMO a go it's a highly good one to go for. Don't expect Skyrim though. In fact unless you play in the Ebonheart pact you won't get any where near Skyrim for a long time. Play this as an Elder Scrolls Game with MMO mechanics and you might enjoy it :)

Been running Dwemer ruins for Dewmer Motifs and the drop rate is fairly decent. Dwemer scrap on the other hand is like gold dust. After about 20 hours play I have enough Dwemer Frame to make 3 things :|

Is anyone going for all 9 traits? I'm about to reach 8 traits which means I'll only have Nirnhoned left to research. Feel that's going to cost me a lot to procure though :(

I am on NA, but I stopped playing the game for a bit, so I am a bit behind. Rolled up an alt for my new main when I started again. I still use my old character as a crafter though. I have all the styles except Imperial and all of the Dwemer. Working on it though.

I've tried to make one Master Crafter but it's cost me a lot. The imperial motif cost me about 100K. The Dwemer ones are good fun to find so I won't be buying them unless I get duplicates to trade. I'm starting to see the benefit of having your alts as crafters though. The daily mats from the hirelings must be great when you have 4 - 5 alts all collecting everyday.

I'm glad they've made it so you can be a master crafter on one character. I've had to find every sky shard but it's paid off. I'm hoping the enforcer and thieves skill lines don't have too many skill points to invest as I'm stretched thin with being a werewolf as well.

Decisions though??? Thieves Guild or Enforcers Guild? Enforce order, or steal and risk getting caught??? I'm considering being a Nightblade enforcer. I like the idea of catching thieves from the shadows, seems kind of fun.

I for one, will quote the Oblivion Guard whenever I catch someone on my enforcer. It must be done.

I won't be buying the Imperial motif as I have the Imperial edition, and I am not worried about making Imperial gear for anyone else. If I had been thinking ahead, I would have made a crafter that was Imperial, but mine is just my old Main form before I took a break from the game.
