Tekken 7 - Lucky Chloe revealed

I dunno. Saying: "well we've had lizards, robots and kangaroos before so this is okay" isn't such a hot argument either.

It is because it all wraps down to "this sort of character doesn't exist back then!" but with vague statements. Even the attempt to defend them with "joke characters!" imply that they are "lesser" characters, yet are characters nonetheless.

How is it not? We had silly shit, people are complaining we're getting silly shit, what's the difference?

Fighting boxing lizards are sillier than a fighting Japan fanatic, so that makes them OK? Some people are trying to argue there's a line Namco can't cross when they alread removed the line from the ground Looney Tunes-style and are currently doing hula hoops with it.

I don't understand some of you people who keep complaining about a arcade fighter game character, which isn't about "fitting the Tekken world". If they are to make a space marine in I wouldn't be surprised.

I really hope it's not actually a "I don't like Japan anime weird characters in a Japanese made game" issue, or something about "feminism"etc.

If you don't like the character, use other characters. If what you were using is not in this entry, try some other characters may be?

Looks alright, annoying voice. But besides that, she's not that out of place for a tekken game. Crazy cast of characters is what makes it so special compared to other fighting games.

From what I've seen, most of the people complaining aren't even Tekken fans.

Yes, there is silly sh*t in Tekken. Nobody is denying it. But I just don't think people are expecting to see the silly sh*t as a headline character reveal for the new game. I really don't know how you are not seeing the distinction between characters like Gon, Alex, Dr B and the main, headline characters that they announce in the lead up to a new Tekken release. She's what, the third new character revealed? She should be on Nina-King-Lei-Raven level not Roger-Alex-Kuma level. At this stage in the game I really think people are expecting the next Hwaorang not the next Roger/Alex.

"Joke" characters have been part of the main roster ever since T5. There's no distinction between them and the main cast, they aren't unlockable or DLC or anything. She's not a "headline reveal", she got a small gameplay demo during a stream and called it a "trailer", you guys say that they did that because they want to sell the character, well no shit that's the point.

As for the "next Hwoarang" bit, out of the 3 new characters 2 are serious, what's wrong with something fun for once? Not everything needs to be some broody corporation struggle decade old bloodline bullshit.

Actually, Tekken 3 had joke characters. Gon and Dr B. I also agree that not everyone has to be serious and there is nothing wrong with some silly, fun characters as well.

I meant that part to the people arguing "but those silly characters were unlockables and bonuses" as if the characters being secret or not makes any difference.

The problem is that Tekken hasn't had unlockable characters for a while so it's hard to make that comparison. Not to mention comparing advertising now compared to 9 years ago.

We had silly characters as mainlines too despite looking serious (see Jack). And even Alex and Kuma got released as mainline too.

And I don't really see much of a difference between a mainline or an unlockable or stuff. A character in the game is still a character in the game regardless whether they are unlockable or revealed early on.

I hadn't paid attention to this previously but I'm genuinely shocked be the reactions to Lucky Chloe. I cannot even begin to understand how anyone that cares about Tekken would find a character like that offensive in any way. What is going on?!

Can't say I'm a fan of the character either, but wow, people were actually so upset that they made the director go on an angry Twitter rant and took the character out of US regions? Wow! Why're people so upset? Shouldn't we be used to characters like this, especially in Japanese games? I don't even care about Tekken, but this is really interesting.

Don't know why people bring up joke characters like Kuma, Gon, Dr. B, etc like Lucky Chloe fits alongside those as the completely batshit crazy character. She's not batshit crazy (maybe if she were a real cat girl or something). She's just the same idea as Xiaoyu/Lili, as girls that look out of place for how cute and underage they are. Except Xiaoyu probably represents how best and how far to take that idea, while Lucky Chloe represents more of the crappy designs of new characters that started coming with Tekken 6.

Xiaoyu was pretty cool, especially in her debut. She was actually badass martial artist first, cute anime girl second. That was her whole shtick. It was even in her stage theme. Starts cute, then kicks into drums and guitars like, "psych, chump!"

When did she take the Mishima spot for headliner? For reference, Miguel and Leo lost family due to Mishima actions. Zafina is trying to stop a Mishima initiated apocalypse. Lars was revealed to be one of Heichachi's bloodline. So far, they haven't revealed any relation to the Mishima power struggle that has been the core of Tekken's lore.

Does this make her better or worse? Now it might poke it fun at idol fans, but she is even more appealing for a even more niche group. Oh well, at least making her a tranvesite, male to female transgender, or hermaphrodite will give sjws a slight pause.

The "SJWs" don't give a fuck about Lucky Chloe. The complaints about her are that she looks silly/stupid/ugly, not that she is offensive in some way.

But that opinion is why the people complaining are offended, and why even 27 pages in they're still screaming bloody murder. As though it will change anything.

Apparently the Japanese Idol scene does not exist, or acknowledging it is a terrible act as a character designer?
Some people just don't like her.

Morbidly obese Americans exist and that didn't stop people from hating Bob and Rufus.

Well yeah, if people think something looks stupid or ugly, they are offended by it. That's not really what "SJW" implies.

uh did not know about her until now and I love her design. Looks amazing and did not expect such a character for tekken 7. I'll buy the japanese psn game and will probably use only her online.

I agree completely. I really do hope the dev can be persuaded to reconsider making her exclusive to outer regions. The more characters, the merrier. And like you said, she's cute.

I dont see whats wrong with having whimsical fun characters in fighting games. fighting games are fucking ridiculous anyway with extreme characters, so a gothic lolita or crazy catgirl fits perfectly. Besides, if you dont like the character, more incentive to get good at beating the crap out of them right? Everybody wins!

Tekken's been messed ever since they didn't continue with 4's gameplay style.

Wasn't 4's gameplay extremely broken? That said, I did really like the uneven stages, and I wish they had tweaked that until it wasn't exploitable, rather than giving up on it entirely. It made for some really cool level design.

What I really miss was 4's art and story direction. It was about as grounded as Tekken ever got, but it felt like there was a cogent effort put into both. Ever since then, it feels like it's been stuck in a rut.

4 was broken, but stuff like JFLS can be patched and tweaked nowadays. It really felt quite daring otherwise. I think 5 is a brilliant game and it was needed, but 6 shouldn't have tried to ape it so closely. I think because we had two revisions of T5, its T3/TTT based gameplay felt a bit old when we got to T6.

Harada has pretty much admitted already that he was trolling. I don't think there are gonna be any "region specific" characters, that would ludicrous.

Pretty sure the consensus is everything in 4 was garbage outside of the tone and new characters.

They took out a huge amount of my Xiao's moves from 3, i won't forgive that along with trying to apply SC's 8 way run. It doesn't work in Tekken...that along with uneven stages and abusable walls..it was by far the worst tekken right up there with 6
