NPD Sales Results for November 2014 [Up3: NPD Data Error, AC:U #5]

Software:

1.) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
2.) Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
3.) Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)

4.) Madden NFL 15 (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
5.) Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
6.) Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
7.) Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
8.) NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
9.) Assassin's Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
10.) Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

Notes:
-Smash Wii U: 710K (retail + digital)
-Smash 3DS LTD: 1.5M (retail + digital)
So if we assume similar sales on digital on the Xbone & PS4 as the WiiU and 3DS (a reasonable and safe assumption, IMHO), then both CoD and and GTA V sold more than 2.2 million each (retail + digital). Pretty damn good.

1.2 million in US for both seems rather implausible.

About those PS3 and 360 sales, I think I got them, just by searching a bit

Sales first 13 months

Xbox 360
Nov. 2005 ~ 326.0k
Dec. 2005 ~ 280.0k
Jan. 2006 ~ 249.0k
Feb. 2006 ~ 161.0k
Mar. 2006 ~ 192.0k
Apr. 2006 ~ 295.4k
May. 2006 ~ 220.9k
Jun. 2006 ~ 277.0k
Jul. 2006 ~ 206.0k
Aug. 2006 ~ 204.0k
Sep. 2006 ~ 259.5k
Oct. 2006 ~ 218.0k
Nov. 2006 ~ 511.0K

Total ~ 3,399.8K

PS3
Nov. 2006 ~ 197.0k
Dec. 2006 ~ 490.7k
Jan. 2007 ~ 244.0k
Feb. 2007 ~ 127.0k
Mar. 2007 ~ 130.0k
Apr. 2007 ~ 82k
May. 2007~ 82k
Jun. 2007 ~ 98.5k
Jul. 2007 ~ 159.0k
Aug. 2007 ~ 130.6k
Sep. 2007 ~ 119.4k
Oct. 2007 ~ 121.0k
Nov. 2007 ~ 466.0K

Total ~ 2,447.2K

PS3 + 360 first 13 months total ~ 5847K

Almost 80% increase = between 75% and 80%

So, PS4 + One first 13 months total ~ 10,232.25 < x < 10,524.6

PS4 + One first 12 months total ~ 8,500

PS4 + One November, then, ~ 1,732.25 < x < 2,024.6

EDIT: I'd tend to be wary of estimates with both consoles over 1 million. Not for anything, but because, if that were the case, MS would have certainly said that in their PR, where no number was said at all.

Highest is 2.024m or ~1.012 million for each.

Assuming XBox One did indeed sell 1.2 million consoles and cboat was also right and PS4 sold near 1.2 million consoles, how the hell did hardware sales drop 23%? Wii U is up and PS4 and XBox One would be up assuming our information is solid. Did XBox360/PS3/Wii make up so much of last Novembers NPD? Even factoring in XBox One's price drop, it doesn't seem like it would add up. Does someone have some numbers to crunch?
Maybe that also counts handhelds? 3DS? Vita? I don't know....or maybe that number is sold-in to retailers instead of sold-through to customers :S

The fact remains that this was the first game of the regular season and xbox eked out a victory in overtime. You guys can rationalize all you want but it doesn't change the fact that Xbox is now 1-0 and Playstation is 0-1.

Joke post?

I don't think they can afford to keep the price point there.

xbox isn't their bread and butter. They could if they wanted to. But question is, do they want to? Just cause they could doesn't mean they want to lose money on xbox (Depends on if they think having xbox gives them advantages in other fields).

Anyways, I think problem for MS now though is if they don't want to, it's going to be hard to go back to the old price when people are used to it being 350 now. People are not going to see it worth 400 now at all after this. So they'll sell worse than they were selling before when it was 400 if they go back to 400. Hopefully they're happy at keeping it at this price cause I think they kinda painted themselves in a corner here (and they may very well have considered that risk when deciding to do it so they may be fine with this and this was the worst case scenario they considered).

Anyways, as a one console for this generation owner that owns a PS4, I'm glad MS isn't doing as well. Less chance they can afford (or will be willing to pay the higher prices) to pay for exclusives.

Really, in the end, all I care is I get my Fallout 4. Everything else is gravy. ANd much salt will be heard from me if MS manages to get Fallout 4 as a console exclusive (yes, I said console exclusive as I don't have a pc to play it with so it would affect me even if it was still on PC). I kinda put my bet that Bethesda wasn't going to lose out on the PS4 market when it was pretty obvious PS4 had already gotten a lot of good will way back when MS made that announcement about policies as well as when Sony made the PS4 announcement and it was obvious they pretty much were saying, "We're sorry for all the mistakes we made on PS3 and this is us acknowledging we need to improve" (I am not surprised at all how this generation is going. And I really do think the PS4 announcement was kind of a way of acknowledging they did wrong with PS3 as they pretty much outlined everything the PS3 did wrong and doing it differently with PS4).

It's amazing how different an attitude affected sales. If gaming companies (and others really) were smart, they'd take a good long term lesson from both MS's and Sony's approach at first at selling their consoles. Your customers thinking you care about their feelings does actually matter. (and if Sony is smart they'll remember to stay humble and take the lesson well between PS3 and PS4 and how well received each was).

As is per usual, the ranking looks a bit different when you group SKUs together. It also puts Dragon Age: Inquisition in the top 10... at spot 10, but still there!

That makes the Wii U sales even worse

like damn, people are out there buying millions of consoles and they can't even do 250k with their two biggest games this year

No one cares about the WiiU. It's fate isn't changing no matter how many threads pop up saying it has the best exclusives, etc.

Value proposition is low, and the library is uninteresting to the greater market.

I'm thinking PS4 took US #1. MS spinned hard with throwing the UK numbers in for no apparent reason.

WiiU should of had some Black Friday deals. Price cut, bundle, both, something. Jeez.

Profit was far more important for Nintendo. They know that they will never come close to the other systems, or even the gamecube, so they're just out to make a profit.

In value.

So the XB1 sold a bit more units, but at $329 instead of $499.

See I feel like this would have definitely been in the PR release. Doing 1 million in a single month outside of December is definitely something to brag about. Also Microsoft it make no sense to Microsoft to add in the UK's numbers to make it the best selling.

Well, I just try to gauge based off of the trends I see on a larger scale. By checking districts all over the country, it doesn't reflect just a small level of the local stores, or even just a single store. Really helps me to refine my awareness of how it all comes together. Thank all things Divine that I don't have to check that many SKUs, like I would for a phone comparison, or something. Haha.

It's nice to have this information all the more in the age of radio silence from companies about NPD. We have to try to piece together a sort of blurry image of what the month looks like now. So your retail musings can also provide a good outline for what structure the numbers should plausibly take by the end.

All I know is I'll be even more fervently checking your musings now :p

I'm shocked people are shocked at WiiU's situation, it's been apparent for a while. It's going to be a ~10 million system, absolutely no chance of GCN numbers.

I'm also shocked at people who claim to be glad, why would you want any system to fail?

GTAV had that PS4 bundle though- those wouldn't be counted by NPD.

Mine and I was just predicting that's all :).
I'm sorry this doesn't have to do with anything, but I always look at your name and see thruway not thuway. Is there any way you could have that changed because it's really been bothering me.

[/insert emoticon to express that I'm not actually being serious about changing your name and please don't take offense because I don't mean any]

That 1.200,000 million gap that Sony had now down to 1.190,000.

gg Sony you had a good run.

/s

LOL.

Yea, Sony's got NA in the bag.

I expect 2015 will be insane for them, what with all those games coming and possibly an official price cut for their 3rd holiday season.

360/PS3 could have also fallen off an even further cliff in comparison to last year to account for some of the hardware drop, unless I'm missing an announced sales number for them. The 360 did ~647k last year, and I can't imagine it did anywhere close to that with all of the current gen hype + next to no good advertised 360/PS3 sales this black friday.

Apps and firmware updates were the 50 yard field goal to seal the victory? Certainly wasn't MCC :p
But seriously more people buy Dragon Age. It's really damn good, ok now back to playing Dragon Age.

First it was China... Then the UK... And now good ole North America has stepped into the light and made the Xbox One the best selling console. Plastered all over Microsoft's hallways are "We're Number One!l posters, no doubt.

Which territory is next? Germany, perhaps? Japan?

While Sony takes its eye off the prize and is distracted by the hackgate fallout, Microsoft adeptly swoops in to take its spot at the top of the mountain. The Xbox ecosystem couldn't be healthier what with next generation consoles ahead of last gen by 80% and with the Xbox 360 quite possibly overtaking Wii as the top selling console of last generation in the coming years.

The history books will be rewritten... This time, with green ink.

All this tells me is Sony was right about not being worried if 7-10k was the difference. They stayed with their guns and made out fine. Congrats to MS

They had little reason to worry. Both made it out of Nov. doing well. What's amusing are the reactions as if there's been some sort permanent shift in the marketshare.

MS threw everyone off a bit by including UK numbers in their NPD release today. Now the speculation of 1.2 million sold is for both USA and UK numbers added together.

Microsoft specifying winning in the UK is quite funny... it could be interpreted to mean they lost everywhere else. They should have just kept it as US #1.

what, no

did you actually SEE the multiple PS4 SKUs piled up behind the main XB1 bundle?

Bayonetta 2 was #9 on Amazon's Best Sellers list for October and the PS4 was #8. So what is one to think when the GTA bundle is number #11 and the AC Xbone bundle is #2? And who knows just how much difference is between the GTA bundle at #11 and the standalone PS4 at #31 / Destiny PS4 #48. And this isn't even taking into account the hourly chart that was pointing to a massive Xbone win.
