Both of my nieces got used DSes on the cheap and they're both Frozen fanatics, so at least anecdotally I'm not at all surprised. Loads and loads of hardware still circulating around the hands of kids who weren't even born when the system came out.

Of course. There's a ton of people (mainly young kids) who have a DS and never intend to upgrade. Same deal with the Wii. I'm pretty sure the newest Just Dance just sold really well on the Wii, it's been near the top of the Amazon charts for a while now.

I don't really think it's that weird. I mean, the 360 will be 10 years old next year, and I'm sure there will still be 360 games being released. Then when you consider the kind of game this is, plus the fact that the 3DS is backwards compatible, it's not a surprising result.

There are more kids with DSs than 3DS so it makes sense for parents to want to get them a DS game. The 3DS is still not picking up with kids... or at least not on the scale of the DS. I think the DS was one of the most popular handhelds.

As far as the game goes. Not here to defend it. But it is a budget title. This game was produced in a very short amount of time, and it was deemed appropriate to give that Where is My Water kind of gameplay, where its levels are short and it has many levels.

These kind of games, if the movie does well, then the games sell. Mostly because of kids wanting a game related to the movie, not because the game stands out on its own. Specially under some of the circumstances they get developed.

I saw this game (and a couple of the most popular DS games) next to the 3DS games at Target recently. The DS sold a shit ton, I'm sure there's still a market somewhere for it.

It's basically the same game.

The DS version is $10 cheaper.

Parents buy the cheaper one and don't have to worry about compatibility either.

Price (and a larger installed base) matters a lot to some consumers. It's why the PS2 continued getting ports for years after the PS3 released. It's why Just Dance on the Wii outsells the Wii U version.
