Street Fighter V being built on Unreal Engine 4

Unreal Engine is now the official fighting game engine.

To recap:

Unreal Engine 3:
-Mortal Kombat X (the same variant Arkham Knight uses; Rocksteady and Netherrealm share the same tech)
-Guilty Gear Xrd

Unreal Engine 4:
-Tekken 7
-Street Fighter V

Polygon said:
Street Fighter 5 is in development in Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4, the company announced today.

"Our goal with the next generation of Street Fighter is to take our beloved fighting game franchise and bring it to our fans in the best way possible," said Bochan Kim, producer at Capcom, in a press release from Epic. "In order to fully deliver on that promise, we know we have to incorporate the latest and greatest technology available, which is why we partnered with Epic Games to power Street Fighter V using Unreal Engine 4."

"This opportunity to help the development team using Unreal Engine 4 for the new title is a great honor for Epic, and I couldn't be more proud," said Taka Kawasaki, territory manager of Epic Games Japan. "Support staff" from both Epic Games Japan and Epic's headquarters in Cary, North Carolina, are helping Capcom get the most out of the engine, according to Kawasaki.

Edit:

Some additional details that may be true given this news:

It's not official, according to a Youtube guy, he was right with UE4, if the system just calling V-Trigger the rest of info can be right.
Alright so regarding that video :

- Time / Weather effects in stages
- Release date : 2016, before the end of the fiscal year.
- Unreal Engine 4
- The new mechanic is named V-Trigger : You can change your stance.
- 16 characters
- No Super Street Fighter 2X + EX (Updates kinda like League of Legends / Killer Instinct)
- The story mode will be way much better, they know they fucked up with sf4.
- The PC version is here mostly because they want to bring the game to Latin America, South Asia, Africa...

They need to make a GGPO plugin for fighting games. Though the big ones probably wouldn't use it anyway.

Cool to see less devs reinventing the wheel. I wonder how much money has been wasted when UE would have been just dandy.

Guilty Gear, Tekken, all the NetherRealm games, Killer Instinct and now Street Fighter. The new 3D KoF wouldn't surprise me either.

Wait, MKX is on UE3? I thought it was on 4?

It's the same version of UE3 that Arkham Knight uses.

Rocksteady and Netherrealm share technology, and they started so early that UE4 wasn't ready.

Ed Boon was evaluating Unreal Engine 4 recently though, so Injustice 2 isn't off the table for switching.

Everyone should go watch the 60fps trailer on Gamersyde. http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_street_fighter_v_extended_gameplay-33785_en.html

For comparison, here's SF4.

First credit to this rumor.
Does they say anything about mechanic name yet?

That's pretty cool, didn't even know about the guilty gear thing. Does Unreal still have that stigma on these boards?

You guys... THINK OF THE MODS! THINK OF THE POTENTIAL WITH SOURCE FILMMAKER! THINK OF WORKSHOP SUPPORT (maybe).

seems like everyone is jumping on UE4 right now. also epic is very smart to let their Japanese studio help the Japanese devs. It's weird/funny because few years ago some thought CE3 and Unity will make UE a thing from the past.

Only from people who are still living in 2008 or who believe that the engine somehow forces characters to be bulky and muscular.

Should have gone with UE4 for AK, no? It's not releasing on the older systems.

UE4 became available to licensees only fairly recently. AK was in development from early 2012, so Rocksteady did not have a choice. They worked on upgrading old engine that will fit their specific needs.

Similarly Battleborn seems to use Unreal Engine 3 due to when Borderlands 2 released.

And they were also bound by contract I think?
