Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2014 (Dec 15 - Dec 21)

Decent start for Final Fantasy Explorers, kind of surprising that it sold more than Phantasy Star Novas current lifetime sales in retail. Kind of sad for Sega, since it seems they are one of the first victims of the seemingly eyeopening (pre)TGS conference (no further relevant 1st party support even from Japan). It was kind of surprising to see such a quick reaction, drop-off in sales compared to just a few months before.

PS4 a sharp decline, despite all the goodwill from 3rd party devs, it really seems that they really like to hurt themselves.

So close Vita, so close.

Still, a valiant attempt from the plucky underdog.

To think that just a few months ago it seemed impossible and you had to expect some very vehement reactions from loyal fans if you would suggest otherwise. We have really come a long way since then.

Damn, was hoping the PS4 would remain above 30k. Guess not.

Smash for Wii U having great legs, nice!

The biggest sales week is the week we're in now right?

Good for Captain Toad.
Glad that WiiU could get above the PS4 too, even if those are pretty bad numbers considering the season.

Also, Godzilla got ok numbers imo. Wonder how well will it go in the future, and in the west with the PS4 version.
Pretty good for FFex as well!

I would suggest that the addressable audience for Vita has shrunk this year but Freedom Wars did over 300K. I wonder what the drop off is to the next highest selling game this year is though.

What's the deal with Phantasy Star Nova? Bad timing? Lack of interest? Sega's incompetence??

Square Enix must been pretty frustrated with the Final Fantasy Explorers sales. 160k may be a decent number for your every-day title, but for what they were trying to achieve with Explorers, I don't know. Granted, the game seemed unpolished and impressions were pretty mixed from what I've read. It seems pretty likely that there's going to be a 'G' version, but as far as continuing with the sub-series goes, these numbers aren't very encouraging.

As for Shin Uchi, wow. Amazing second week performance. It may even surpass ORAS before the end of the year. I'm glad both for Level-5 and for what this means for Pokémon. Serious competition will be a great motivation for refreshing the franchise, especially in the wake of the 20th anniversary. And it sure needs it.

New 3DS - 1,080,914

Good stuff.

MH4U hits 2.4 million, including digital sales!

MH4+MH4U = 6,230,923

Smash 3DS+Wii U officially the best selling game in the series:

Smash 3DS + Wii U = 2,472,008
Smash Brawl = 2,303,103

Gaf decide for me, I'm gonna be without internet for 2 weeks starting Saturday(moving house). Which game should I buy, FFEX or the new YW?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Didn't expect more than 100k for a low effort title like FF Explorers, guess they had luck because of the holiday season and no one else releases these type of games on the system.

3DS and all Nintendo games are doing good. The Wii U however has terrible sales, people were more interested in it last year when it didn't have Mario Kart and Smash Bros.?

FFEX does well = luck; PSN does bad = the market was smart enough to understand it was such a low-quality effort. :p

I guess that FF is still a popular name; 3DS installed base is huge; and FFEX is the "alternative" title these holidays for 3DS' owners.

I would guess that the platform is a good starting point.

God Eater, Toukiden and Freedom Wars are reasonably successful on Vita, so that's not really the case.

Phantasy Star Nova was kind of an awkward feeling title tbh. I never really felt that SEGA sold the game very well on both the premise of the story, characters or mon-hun action.

The prevailing theory is that it didn't do enough to appeal to people who already have a ton of option including PSO2 to play on the Vita. It also had a poor demo which wouldn't have helped.

They can't be that mad about FFEX. It's got one of the better debuts for a multiplayer action game this gen and next week is a big holiday week too. It's also quite evidently low budget with big performance issues.

I would guess that the platform is a good starting point to work from.

I think the platform is a minor issue at most.

Freedom Wars launched before the dreams crushing (pre)TGS conference.

I see. Sega's incompetence, it is then.

Probably the price tag.

With the exception of the aged 3DS that is carrying the entire industry on its shoulders, everything is pathetic both hardware and software-wise.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe had completely stopped selling after Summer, 20.000 units sold in the last 4 months (excluding this week where it sold 7.500).

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
You know Yokai Watch 2 had an amazing second week, especially in terms of WOW drop, right?

Nintendo really needs to learn how to do price cuts on certain software. Eshop pricing is insane.

How does Gundam Breaker 2 compare to Gundam Breaker 1?

Also, why is Final Fantasy Explorer labeled as an RPG and not ACT?

Look on the positive side, at least it didnt do much worse than last year =)

That is definitely true but Vita has had some big announcements since then so I doubt it has affected confidence in the hardware that much. It was also a niche audience/device to begin with.

As if Phantasy Star Nova performance depended only on Sony lack of 1st party announcements in the pre-TGS conference. You take one specific case and generalize to doom and gloom over Vita. Yet, you complain about the doom and gloom over 3DS when people do the same.

Are you serious? You have called companies that do not put exclusive support on Nintendo systems greedy, stubborn and now masochist. What else will you call them?

Sword Art Online sold at least 250k. But games that sell average figures like Sen no Kiseki II, Danganrompa: AE or Poweful Pro Baseball 2014 haven't suffered (in fact they will likely beat their predecessors figures when Media Create top 1000 is released), so it looks like the audience remains and the problem is more with Phantasy Star Nova.

Holy shit at WiiU's YTD.

574k in the year it got its 2 biggest software titles. Thats insane.

With the Wii U, I think a lot of it is the fact that the 3DS is so wildly popular and already had a Mario Kart and a Smash Bros.

It would be really interesting to see what the numbers would be like it there was no 3DS version of Smash specifically.
